This was covered a long time ago, the simple answer is never. They did not make weapons with the ability to dye them in mind. So they would have to rework every weapon skin in game so we could dye them. That is a lot of weapons and a lot of work, work ANet will not wast there time doing.

Maybe the new Legendaries will use the dye system. And maybe you can pick from/get more visual effects for them as you go along.

Never. It was too much work in development and ArenaNet could not do it, lest the release date be pushed back probably another year or so. We’re lucky we can even dye armors. If you’re wondering why we could do it in GW1 but not GW2, just remember that the majority of the GW1 devs left ArenaNet during the development of GW2 to make their own game, and took their talent with them.

Give us more GW 1 weapon and armor skins, please. COPY/PASTE ALREADY!!!!

I’d rather have dyable back pieces than weapons.

Actually, no. They made a specific design decision long before we had heard about GW2. Apparently, it’s a lot easier to code and animate weapons + deal with clipping issues + QA if they decide from the start not to include dying as an option.

I don’t know enough about their animation/coding tools to get a sense of whether this was a wise trade-off or not; it certainly enabled them to release the game more quickly and to turn out more weapon sets, although obviously some skins are recolored versions of others (e.g. all the ascended sets).

o_O that sounds like an excuse nobody is going to believe. How are dyes going to affect clipping?
