Guild Wars 2

I’ll admit it — I’m a slow player. I take my time, level my characters, explore slowly. It makes me happy. And I love that GW2 lets me do that and has lots of clever stuff for me to piddle with along the way.

All this to explain why I just now found Skrittsburgh.

To say that I’m tickled doesn’t begin to touch it.

I’m sitting here in a suburb of Pittsburgh, giggling like an idiot over Hillstead, East End, and the Tunnels. (Although I’m incredibly disappointed that there are no Skrittsburgh Stealers to go with the Foragers. Shouldn’t there at least be some human Skrittsburgh Buccaneers wandering ineffectually around the map, looking for something to do?)

Anyway, just wanted to let you know that it’s just these sorts of little gems that make me love this game. And that I appreciate the little shout-out to my great town. Go Steelers!

I take it you haven’t noticed all the Ravens in the game. The reason why the steelers aren’t is because the Ravens are better.

Hah, I’ve noticed this as well. In addition to the Skrittsburgh references, you can also find some references in Rata Sum. You can find Frick Hall (from Henry Clay Frick, chairman of Carnegie Steel who has many things named after him in Pittsburgh like Frick park) and Skibo Hall (Andrew Carnegie’s residence, a few buildings that are named after this can be found at CMU). I would guess one of the developers attended Carnegie Mellon… :-)

Coconut — I hadn’t considered that one of the developers attended CMU, altho that’s probably quite likely. And I DID notice Frick Hall. But, separating it from Skrittsburgh, I guess I just assumed they’d picked it as an “Asura-sounding” name.

Oh, and Nerifes…You are now my arch-nemesis.

Ratbirds are all over as unimportant background fluff. In one jumping puzzle, they’re a minor obstacle. Seems about right to me :P

I was born in New Mexico in a small town called Farmington, not kidding. Devs take note of that name.
