I have three pieces of it so far and enough bandit crests to buy more.

However, only the chestpiece, shoulders and gloves are available to me! My friend says it’s because I don’t have segments of the story completed but apparently those cost two hundred gems a piece. So I’d be getting charged 60 gold or 10 dollars to get pants and boots for my set.

Is there any alternative way to get the pants and boots of the carapace set?

This is getting frustrating.

Rare drop from Vinewrath. Besides that not really. Also you cant get the luminescent without completing the Living Story Season 2 (required completion of all achievements in the story missions).

I don’t think there is any way other than fork out gems right now.

You have to complete the story in order to unlock merchant selling those pieces for gold+bandit crests.

Edit: actually, boots can drop from bandit chest, not sure about pants, think that is story only.
VW only drop chest piece, or am I missing something?

On one hand you will need to buy the living story if it’s a requirement for the armor. On the other hand, if you have a level 80, 60 gold isn’t that hard to make. It also doesn’t have to be done on a schedule as the option will always be there. You can make that gold over time and buy the LS whenever you get it.

I am pretty sure that all drops of a certain piece are gated behind the associated chapter of the story.

If you dont have the story, the associated armor part will never drop anywhere.

Though it is kind of amusing that Carapace is the most expensive armor in the game if you missed just a few LS chapters.

Optional armor is optional. Also its not like they don’t give people plenty of time to log in to access the living world content every few weeks, you don’t even have to play just log in once and its unlocked. They aren’t forcing you to buy gems, if you missed out and want to buy the content you can. If anything its really cool anet allows people to do that many games if you miss a limited time event you’re straight out of luck.

No one’s forcing you to do anything, for starters. You also get, you know, all the content that came along with those living story updates, not just the one skin. You can also convert gold to gems, which you should be able to earn in a couple of days playing all that FREE content in the giant FREE Silverwastes zone hosted on FREE servers by devs that don’t work for FREE.

Did someone say FREE? All this free content? That could have been gated behind a full blown expansion pack or dlc? That we get as monthly updates to a living story? A growing main quest adding onto story elements from the past? That kind of completely free content?

ANET has said multiple times. Everything is optional, and open to the community while its in its free stage of 2 week download window. If you miss it, its gone, or you can pay an EXTREMELY MODERATE fee to unlock it. Every other game of this quality has $15 monthly. They are asking for $10. Not even monthly.

Sorry about rant. Sorta tired of this type of complaining. I missed Season 1. That’s my fault. I do not expect to get access to all the cool stuff that happened. I will simply look forward to what happens next, and let folks who participated have their baubles. I will find my own.

I meant forced as in forced to buy gems if I want to complete my carapace armor set, meaning I was mildly irritated at the time that I have no other alternatives to getting the pieces, not even RNG.

I’m not talking about that other free stuff or business or whatever. I just have an incomplete set and I’m bummed that I have to finish it with gem store stuff.

It’s just that most people are getting tired of the “OMFG I HAVE TO PAY 200 GEMS COS I MISSED THE 2 WEEK WINDOW?! OMFGWTFBBQ!” threads that pop up each week.

That’s not to say that was your intention, of course, but it could easily be misconstrued that way

I THINK I received something by way of reward for defeating the Bandit Boss guarding the tunnel down to the JP that unlocked boots for me at the vendors. Then all I needed to do was cash in 1000 Bandit Crests to unlock the ones I wanted. If that’s correct, it wouldn’t have anything to do with completing parts of the LS I would think.

You’d be even more bummed if you were completely locked from ever getting the rest of the set since you missed that LS chapter. Anyone who liked LS1 stuff, or didnt get a chance to get it, is completely screwed over.

You only need to unlock the specific chapter that gives you the pants, no need to do anything else unless you are trying for the luminescent set. I recently came back after a long break, and was a bit surprised the chapters were for sale, but hey, it’s a dynamic story, and I wanted my kitten skirt. In the long run, 200 gems isn’t much. It’s $2.50 real money. I thought that was a decent price for looking purdy.

60 gold for a skin is pretty cheap tbh, specially as you get loads of loot for doing the storyline, you’ll make a chunk of that gold back.

And you get the skin ‘free’ simply for completing it. And it’s repeatable on alts. So you don’t have to grind out 3k crests for each piece to get luminescent. Actually I only bought two of the set from the vender, and regret it since I have gotten a dozen boot drops since.
