Honestly no. The new aggressive scaling means that my character now feels like paper everywhere. I leveled for a reason, I want my 80 levels to matter if I go to a lower zone. They don’t, I get shredded in seconds now and it’s no fun at all.

Bosses are now HP sponges, since they have no new AI. Teq is now 99% fail and Jormag is just 100% boredom. I mean, before the patch, you had two waves of ice wall, now you have a mandatory three waves because of the HP buff. It’s excrutiating.

The new cookie cutter trait system means that I don’t get to choose anymore what I want. I don’t care that I get more points, because I have to invest those in things I’m not at all interested in to get the stuff I want to get to.

Overall, I’m not at all interested in HoT anymore, because the fundamentals about the game (power, loot, cool bosses) is now completely ruined for me. If I could get a refund for HoT, I would definitely request one now.

I’m happy I pre-purchased. Dont see how it would change my mind.

A new LA, cool new jp, karka scavenger hunt, some nice QoL changes, my Fractal runs are better etc.etc.

My perception of the direction the game is taking is that it’s still going great as usual.

But i followed the preview notes and the announcements, so i knew exactly the direction of the game. Bugs aside, im rather happy with the overall direction this patch has taken things. It has opened new possibilities with builds, condition is viable at last, and the game is well set up for future elites, which will make for some tough and intriguing decision making. That in turn sets up the game for more interesting encounters to be developed.

Plus new LA has been lovely to explore, with an enjoyable karka hunt – the type of scavenger hunt i want to see more of in game.

If you want a balanced discussion though, id be happy to hear more why you think otherwise. You haven’t really given any insight or detail

If i were to chime concerns tho, it would be the following..

The need for more testing or a test server. I dont know why one doesnt exist, but hope the case is stronger post patch.

The time it took to disable the problem traits.

The fact ls1 isnt started. I understand why though, i will say it need prioritising post HoT though. Thats my opinion for the continuity of the game as a whole.

These dont affect my decision since they arent problems i feel detract from my purchase, just things i feel need addressing

I havent even purchased it yet and not sure that I will, or even stay with the game. there is not enough info for me to make a good decision, mainly a full and complete list of features for which HoT will be necessary to access, the current list is vague and incomplete.

Then, those features have to be relevant to my playstyle and areas of the game that I wish to play in. If all HoT will turn out for me is a 1 time novelty then I do not see any reasons to purchase it at all, or at best somewhere wayyyyyy down the line when its on sale.

Glad I haven’t bought it yet, and will continue to remain glad until they release a full list of how much content they’re actually selling. Also, downscaling wrecked leveling characters via map completion, and needs fixed badly. I’ve heard lots of complaints about how it screws 80s, but it’s nothing compared to what it does to say a level 48 wearing found and quest reward gear(ie non twinked).

There are definitely things I have disliked about this update. Of all my toons only one was really able to stay the way she was and might even be better at what I had made her into.

My two mains since the start, my Guardian and my Engie are wrecked. I basically need to re gear them to make them viable, although my Guardian is mostly workable as is. He’s nowhere near how I had him, but I can live with that. My engie? Nope. She’s fairly unusable in WvW at the moment and feels “off” even in PvE. Luckily there’s nothing in PvE that is that scary, but still. I don’t like it that she feels so different after the patch and I have to choose between mobility and being able to survive an onslaught.

My other toons are in various stages of meh and the gold cost for re-gearing them to not suck or be viable again more than anything grates me.

Still not enough info regarding HoT to consider buying it IMO. Some of it has been intriguing, but with that price point they REALLY need to wow me or I’m going to refrain until it goes on some ridiculous sale down the line.

actually i pre purchased the ultimate version but somehow i found this “new HP WB patch” boring as can be. Why? you may ask, well:

1. Jormag was boring before, now is epic boring (and no theres no fun on the same boss with the same atacks and more HP)

2. Teq is impossible for casual players (it became a battle for the self called hardcores and elites, fill the chap map with the usual “noob” -Read casual- player insults, waiting 1 hour to a posble win/fail is super boring, again is not fun to devote a life to a single boss… but well harcores are happy that they can spit on the player base and can brag about its egos – thing that they cant do in Real life-

3. it broke the dps balance like hell (thats a bug is actually not intentional like the other 2)

4. AND THE MOST IMPORTANT PART, they AGAIN, broke a already shattered community (now is not about friendly playing, is about whos on the better -read elits hardcore guild/map/zerker/ascended-legendary gear) actually i dont wanna play with braggarts…

No. Yeah, there are bugs but overall I like the specialization patch. No regrets whatsoever.

And some people are exaggerating as usual. Not one of my teq maps was anyone insulting anyone and I was even on pug maps that beat teq. Others are reporting success on their pug maps too. It was really a matter of just learning. But whatever, with the crit thing fixed hopefully the complaining will stop. Though I seriously hope it’s not too easy now.

I don’t even understand the question. Was there some surprise in the patch we haven’t been expecting for at least a couple of weeks?

There were bugs, which I expected, because there are always bugs in MMOs. There were a few positive surprises I didn’t expect, like the new Jumping puzzle.

But mostly, I don’t really see what this update has to do with HoT. If you didn’t know the direction before you haven’t been paying attention.

Really….?
I’ve yet to encounter any issue on any character including a berserker+sinister elementalist which is probably the second squishiest thing you can make in the game. It’s not like I’ve been avoiding hits either.

So glad I didn’t pre-order Hot!!! By default I am against pre-ordering games as you give them money they didn’t yet earn. I think it negatively impacts gaming in general. If a company makes enough money and records a profit before they even finish the game do you think they really try that hard to do as well as they could. I doubt it I imagine they cut corners and finish sloppy to save on the bottom line.

I for one will not be purchasing anything from anet until I see how they end up balancing after HoT drops.

The need for more testing or a test server. I dont know why one doesnt exist, but hope the case is stronger post patch.

Likely because a test server would only be used to test new character builds, “old” content, and overall figure out the best optimized way to do old things with the new changes. New stuff? What new stuff? Oh, you mean everything else on the server that absolutely no one else bothered with either? Yea, I liked it.

edit: @above poster and all others using the wrong term STILL. It’s not preORDERING, it’s prePURCHASING.

I have been telling people to wait and see first before doing anything. The latest patch needs another patch to fix the current problems facing GW2. And probably another to fix the problems the crop up soon after. I guess you would have to wait until the everything is stabilize to even consider pre-ordering.

Personally, I am very happy I prepurchased HoT even though I will not be doing any of the beta weekends so I don’t get any story spoilers. The patch made no difference to me with the changes to traits, but to be completely honest the only thing I want HoT for is the story: specilisations, revenant, guild halls, stronghold and the new wvw map are all completely insignificant to me and I would not mind if none of them were added. However, I can see how the patch would be annoying for someone who cares about their build/traits because the new system does give you much less choice of traits because you can’t go only part way into the trait line and if I am not mistaken there are less traits overall (9 major ones per line). This could be a serious problem for someone who likes trying new builds. I am still extremely excited for HoT though and can’t wait for a release date to be announced.

Honestly I’m not enough of a perfectionist for balance patches, even big ones like this one, to bother me. Changing the recharge of a skill from 1 second to 1.5 seconds is meaningless to me. I know half a second can be a long time in combat, but I don’t think about my build in that much detail. Even in harder games where every choice can make a big difference I just play whatever seems fun, and if it makes it harder I’ll deal with it.

I’m disappointed at the loss of ground-targeted ranger traps, that means I’ll need to choose 2 new utility skills, and at some point I may review my accessories to decide if I want to change them, but none of it would put me off playing or buying the expansion.

I do agree with the people who say we haven’t had enough information to make an informed decision on HoT yet, and that is an issue. But I decided in my case they’d have to do something truly crazy to put me off, so I went ahead and got it anyway.

I’m extremely happy I DIDN’T per-purchase OR buy anymore gems. The game has less customizable builds (138mil+/- vs. 270+/-), less sustainable builds (dmg vs. def/heal), more crafting to fix (yes, FIX) what anet has done. Seems to be a very care-bear approach, much like what WoW did in WotLK to Cata.

+1 to just as excited as before

We knew about most of these trait changes weeks in advance. If you didnt read up on a game you spent $50 on its your fault, not theirs (the bugs and such are their fault, but going to assume those get fixed eventually). I dont love the changes completely, but again, we knew about almost all of them beforehand, so nothing changed.
