By the massive amount of players misusing ping and link?

Ping is on the minimap, link is things in chat.

You must have a lot of children on your server, because I’ve never had issues like that on mine.

But then what happens when you link a location on the map (wp, poi, etc)? :P

Honestly, it’s been like this since GW1.

I imagine some accidentally link an item in chat, I know I sometimes do Often when I try to re-stack items, for which I always seem to forget the key combos for and then I see the chat filled with links to the items I tried to re-stack… oooops

People in magum say ping all the time when they mean link.
Tho saying ping for the red pulse on the minimap isnt accurate either. Its more of a blip.

But just like how people use the word literally wrong or use ironic when they mean coincident, I’ve learned to correct them in my head and move on.

Edit: Holding Ctrl then clicking on an item will say it in your chat, dont know why this needs to be a thing. Holding shift links it in your chat bar allowing you to add to it. Much better.

One way to avoid the auto-post of pressing the wrong button when trying to split stacks is to know that you only have to hold the button when dropping the stack, not when picking it up. So pick it up then hold the button you think it is and drop it.
The correct button is alt.

Eh, I don’t think the terminology was ever set in stone. Ping to me is sending out a communication to see if somebody is available (generally used in a work setting). People “ping their builds” in GW1 in much the same way someone links a wp or a skill in GW2, so it makes sense to me.

Ping is Mulan’s name when she goes undercover as a male soldier in her father’s place. Link is the hero in the Legend of Zelda games.

This made me smile. Thank you. =)

On topic, I am not sure what the complaint is. I see the very occasional red ping mark on a map, people link the location of champs or events often. Isn’t that what they are for? I rarely have map chat on in town, so if the problem is there, I miss out. Actually, I usually only have map chat on during invasions, because it can be faster than opening the map.

Yes, you are. It’s a matter of semantics, different people use different expressions, though it’s usually not hard to figure out from context.

Oh! The complaint is about definitions! Duh! Silly me.

In that case, yes, I guess you are. I suppose this is like the thread where the person was bothered by ‘whilst’ or something. Which I happen to use quite often. Lol.
