So, can't decide what profession to boost...
Most of the complaints about classes are from PvP. In PvE, every class is awesome.
You can try put each class in the Silverwastes to get a feel for it. I wish they gave a copy of each weapon the class could use, though…

Yeah, I went to try the trial mode on most of the professions I mentioned, but all I was able to use were the base weapons.
So can’t try out the elite specs or such, which is what I’m mostly interested in.
Haven’t read the post but from experience:
I had fun leveling every profession and learning their style…except for Mesmer. Mesmer shines best once it gets its traits and is the dimmest gem without traits. It’s satisfying once you learn the profession’s quirks and unlock its potential but without that potential being available, it’s more of a pain than a pleasure.
If you like your Scrapper and your Reaper well enough, I’d say go with Rev and have some cancer in each type of armor…for flavor, of course.
Jokes aside, if you mainly PvE, it doesn’t matter tbh. BUT you do have 2 80s that aren’t exactly top picks for a team foundation. Maybe look into that aspect with something like Ele etc.

Eh… I’m not hugely fond of Elementalist, but thats just because I feel kind of overwhelmed with the attunements. (YES I know, this coming from an Engineer, but even then I don’t use kits that much) That and I’m not exactly sure how fun they are with the whole warhorn thing.
And yes, I know I picked the two professions most folks hate on, but I just enjoyed how they looked and played when I first made them.

Mesmer… Mesmer just confuses me, again I never picked up on the whole clone/phantasm thing, the most I ever got with mine was to level 38 before I finally deleted him, since I was more or less tired and bored with how he played :/
you can still equip other weapons if you find them via loot, or just buy them from the weapon npc..
But yea, use the trial on all professions in order to decide. There hasn’t been a better thing in the game than this now.

Tempest doesn’t lock you into using Wh by any stretch, and I’m not referring to any animosity towards Engi or Necro either. My real point is that I think you might be best off with a profession that has strong team synergy as a foundation for team playeither with friends or LFG groups. Ele aside, Guardian or Warrior could be good choices for you. Simple team roles to fullfil and very effective at them. Even Rev really depending on what your buddies tend to play.
As stated already, the lvl-80 trial is awesome and you should use it for consideration. Mechanically speaking, Elite specs really only change how a couple of professions are played tbh. So the trial isn’t gonna be vastly different than what you’ll play afterward with the exception of Mesmer and Druid who’s Elite specs add a ton of team synergy over their core counterparts.
So, after a bit of thinking and trying out all of the classes, I think I’ve narrowed it down to either picking a heavy armor class since, I got one light and medium armor class.
I guess the question is now, Guardian, Warrior or Revenant?
I found Revenant very clunky as a class to level. Skipping the levelling process however, might be beneficial as you get to the decent stuff quickly.

As far as I can tell, Gaurd and Rev have no built in 25% movement speed buff:

Warrior has this:

…if that sort of thing matters to you, that is.

Guardian can get perma Swiftness easily with a Staff 3 + Retreat tho. Even easier to keep it now with the reduced Retreat CD.
I’ve got a lvl80 guard and warrior and find the warrior more boring. I do like the guardian since it uses a mix of melee and magic. I kept wanting to make a human rev b/c I don’t have a human heavy armor wearer yet, but just couldn’t find any face that I liked, so I kept deleting it. It looks like it has a good mix of melee and spell-like abilities too.
In regards to the forums complaints – yes, the forums are generally full of doom and gloom because people will voice their complaints more readily and loudly than they will post praise.

On Rev, most of the time you’ll be on Herald so you can just use the facet for swiftness.
I have one of every class maxed and play mostly PvE so the ones I play the most are Ranger and Necro. Both go through content like butter. Thief can be fun but is a challenge as one wrong move and your a dead thief. But Thief is fun and you get that rush when you succeed. Lastly a guardian spec as healer is awesome as he can heal his way through a lot of content.
