So can we get an official input on this?
I do believe I read somewhere that minimally, they’re adding new weapons to classes.
Personally, I’m after a dual focus engineer. ANet pls.

Just because they give every class access to every weapon doesn’t mean they will let you off-hand wield them.

Dreams are very important =) DOUBLE TAZER POWEEEEEEER! P-P-P-P-P-P-POWER!
Still trying to picture exactly how an Elementalist would use a rifle.
Unless… shooting elementally powered spheres of energy that have various results. That’s 20 brand new skills they could toy around with. Would love to see an air skill with the rifle that is basically ball lightning that bounces between foes causing damage and stunning.
Elementalists are already messed up enough as it is. We don’t need more broken weapons we need them to fix the ones we have.
Would love to see my mesmer be able to use dual pistols and dual daggers.

ele….with a greatsword…. Not sure if that’s wonderful or terrifing. I think we’ll simply file it under ‘scary’

Screw that, dual shield engineers are the best!

They should have this ability where they can create a reflective shield indefinitely however cannot attack for it’s duration. That’s be cool. Force field generator stance OP.
A two handed shield would be interesting but would probably be waaaay too support oriented and go against their no trinity stance.

I’m pretty sure GW2 has its own trinity;
Support
Damage
Deabilitation
Thing is, these roles heavily overlap.
Yeah, not arguing that there aren’t focuses. My elementalist has support and more damage oriented builds. But my support build can still do some damage and my damage build can still heal and remove conditions. The force field shield idea would probably have very very low damage (unless you’re going up against not very intelligent enemies that can reflect a high amount of damage onto themselves) while negating a very significant amount of damage (support builds so far can negate damage but usually it isn’t super powerful).
I don’t really want to see more weapons for each class, because frankly, I think we have enough choices as it is.
What I think is really missing is different ways to use certain weapons. For example, I want to actually use my greatsword as an actual sword instead of an Asura lazer cannon on my Mesmer.
Roll a Warrior? Sorry but sort of expected that the different professions would use the weapons…differently.
Yes, this will happen one day. the first new weapon introduced for every class will be released in 2015 tho so just wait, its only 2+ year.

Well, let’s put it this way. Statisticians and scientists both use a computer but in different ways, but at the same time, different scientists use computers differently.
Lets put it this way, they said early on in the games development that different professions will have themes and will use the same thing in different ways. One example is how elementalists can turn rocks into meteors (not just throw the rock really fast or something). Are you just annoyed at the general way mesmers use things (e.g. the torch, something that is a light source has a stealth ability)?

It would be similar to Mesmer with a greatsword, not that hard to imagine really……..

Not necessarily. Mesmers use a single magic type – chaos – which they channel through the blade. In a sense, using it as a means of focusing or directing it.
Eles, on the other hand, channel elemental magic, different ones for different things. The greatsword couldn’t function similarly (as a focus) because they aren’t shooting ‘beams’ of power, but instead elemental projectiles. We have a staff that covers this for us. They’d have to approach its implementation differently, simply due to the inherent differences in the magics.

Not really. I just want more ways to costumize my characters (although, admittedly I think the way mesmers use the greatsword is quie amusing at best and annoyed that it doesn’t show the trail effects on Sunrise very well).
Bo staff charr warrior ftw.
I want to be able to use a staff like Ip Man.
Was a real sad panda when I couldn’t use pistols on my warrior… I’m not sure if his fingers are too fat for them or what but I would really appreciate a change in that.
I want to dual-weild 2 Asura thieves… as a big Norn warrior I should be able to do it.

Dual shield guardians would like to have a word with you.
“You can’t have more than 10 HS decks because that would confuse people”
“30 fps is more cinematic”

No no, we need a wield pyramid. Dual-wielding Charrs who are dual-wielding humans who are dual-wielding Asuras who are dual-wielding harpoon guns with dual daggers sticking out of them.
Rifle Guardian.
Can’t you just see a line of ’em facing a portal waiting for the bad guys to emerge?
“Firing Squad of Justice, kittens!”
Main? What “main”? I play all of them sooner or later.
Some weapons just don’t belong on certain Classes. Rangers especially should never get Rifles b/c it just exasperates the average Ranger’s Bear-Fueled inadequacy & laziness.
Some people already think that giving Guardians- a -staff- was possibly the biggest mistake that otherwise overpowered & perfect class ever had happen to it.
and don’t even get me started on thieves…
Then there’s other things that are just plain No-Brainers. Like giving Engineers Maces with more creative Tool Skins. Or giving Ranger a mainhand Torch so they have another 1-handed DPS weapon that doesn’t routinely cause them to leap backwards off cliffs. Then there’s weapons that still need to be Built… such as Polearms so that Necros and Guardians and Mesmers can have Scythes and WarStakitten and an interpretive dance partner.
…me personally, I won’t be happy till I get a Dead Quaggan on a stick to swing around…
Also: Why the kitten is the Plural Form of Staff …. being filtered on this stupid Forum?

No need, we already placed some static boulders on the battlefield.

I agree some weapons/offhands don’t make sense. As a Warrior myself, I can’t picture using a Staff or Focus. Wtf am I going to do with those things? Sure, the Staff could be used as a melee weapon, but the Focus? Scepter? For Scepter, the only way I can even see using that is like a Mace.
Unless they come up with some Warrior type skills for a few of the castor weapons/offhands, I don’t see it working. Sure, they could just throw in Shouts and Stances tied to them, but it doesn’t make sense to do that to me at least.
I don’t think they’ll open up all of the weapons/offhands for every profession. What I do expect is, that more weapons will be introduced. Scythe’s pretty much a given down the line, and I’m pretty positive the aquatic weapons will be able to be used on land eventually. Well, at least the spear, maybe not the spear gun unless they lower the rate of fire on it.
They oughta just give each class a greatsword build that’s better than any other build…
Dual-wield shields!
No more sword-swinging, just shield-bashing!

Because the 3 letters it censors are a common abreviation of “for * sake”
Also, isn’t the plural actually Staves?
Yes, the plural of staff is staves.

just putting this link up because someone made a similar thread a few days ago and wanted a better source than mmorpg.com
This is the transcript for the livestream they had about their blog post looking ahead. Colin “The Main Man” Johanson says that they may add new weapons to classes. So kind of an official response already( that is if you count “maybe” as an official response)

If we look at the Ele’s Elite Firesword skill for an example you can easily see how they can work this. They could even just change this elite to BE the greatsword’s Fire element and just create another 3 sets of skills for the other elements. I would guess they would tone down the skills somewhat since they are pretty powerful right now since this is an Elite skill.
But there you go an example of how it can be done.
Hammers and Maces for Engineer finally be able to use Fixer upper, but please make maces and hammers actually good on Engi, unlike Warriors and Guardians they are bad..
