I started playing this game with a warrior. I got bored REALLY, REALLY fast and stopped at about level 7. I made another character, and it was a ranger. I had so much fun with it, it was my main for a long time now. Then I decided to get every profession, so I did (almost). Currently, I have my ranger, elementalist, engineer, and guardian at level 80 fully decked out with gear. I am still trying to get my necro, thief, mesmer, and warrior to 80.

After seeing how pets are incredibly useless, especially since I do a ton of dungeons on a daily basis, I began to play my ranger less and less, which made me sad because my ranger was my main (and I’m unclear as to still consider it my main). Playing as a guardian was a very fun experience, and not being so damn squishy was a plus. Playing as an elementalist is so, so damn fun. Dual dagger elementalist is PERFECT for anyone who has ADHD, as you have to seriously be super active to be able to use d/d effectively and I love it. Playing as my engi was fun at first, using turrets and just sitting back killing mobs, then got bored and used it only for gathering resources and completing dailies, then for some reason was interested and made it to 80. Engineers are insanely versatile, so it was incredibly hard to stick to one build for my engi. I ran an alchemy build and still do, but I’ve tried kits and they’re just so…broken. They don’t take the same stats as your weapon in hand, the flamethrower doesn’t always hit enemies, and it seems that the only way to be effective with engi’s are going with a grenade build (although, with the current nerf to them, I’m not even sure about that).

Currently leveling my necro, and it is so much fun. Noisy as all hell, but fun. Although necro pets are broken as well since that one shadow pet doesn’t always attack, but I like it so far nonetheless. I’ve gotten my mesmer to level 10, and I also like that class. Thieves are very new to me, as mine is only about level 5-6 or so, and I honestly try to go back to my warrior but christ sake its just…boring for me I don’t know why.

The reason I say I’m glad I have all professions (or trying to get all of them to 80), is because I hate the thought that playing one class and hoping for the day it would get buffed, it never does. Ranger pets don’t work and our shortbows speed was nerfed quite a while back because of “animation” issues. Engineer grenades got nerfed so damn bad and to be honest, it really does seem like using grenades was the only way to go because of the constant vulnerability they could apply AND of course the massive damage they do.

The ONLY problem I see with guardians, is just the skill 5 on the hammer. Its a joke, enemies go out of it so easily and the fact that you HAVE to stay still is just ridiculous, but other than that they seem to be fine. As for ele’s, the only problem I have is their lack of elites and how they aren’t that great. I mean, tornado would be nice if you didn’t have to stay in place, cast it, then you become a tornado. And the glyph that summons greater elementals, well, they go down super easily. Even if you’re attuned to earth and summon a greater, they still go down pretty damn fast. Other than that, I’m fine with them.

In short:

For those who aren’t running multiple toons and aren’t going for every profession like I am, how do you feel about only sticking to one profession? Are you happy with it? Are you worried about any current nerfs that have been implemented? Do you like the buffs you have received? Do you feel like re-rolling another toon because of anything that has/hasn’t happened? Please do state what profession you run

Well I have the same feeling about my engi as you about your ranger – it is my main.

It is the class I started to play gw2 with. I really love the concept and some of his skills.
But it is harder and harder to stick with him. I want to but the devs push me away.

I have other alts as well. And it is really fun playing with them. Maybe now it is time to level some of them.

I dunno who though. I’m kinda scared to play warrior, cause OP classes tend to drop hard when their time comes.

I have a level 80 of every profession and I enjoy every one of them for the mechanics they offer. They each have nice “class identity”, and do a good job of making me feel engaged in PVE/PVP encounters with fun combat styles. I don’t play GW2 as competitively in PVP as many players in the community, so I guess that’s perhaps why I am not experiencing the drawbacks the recent “nerfs” have brought to light. I am however drawn to the Thief the most.

As for nerfs (as I mentioned in another thread), our community is home to a lot of passionate players that feel very strongly for the one or two classes they play. It is understandable that they become upset by unfavorable changes in new builds. However I think what a lot of people need to come to realize is this: numbers are easy to change but challenging to “get right”. Balance is an ongoing process that takes months and months to find a happy middle ground that satisfies all players in all game play aspects in-game. The game and it’s professions will likely receive multiple updates and tweaks in numerous new builds/iterations over the course of the coming years. Rather than slamming the forums with angry, knee-jerk posts about unsatisfactory changes, it would be more beneficial to just simply

1. Provide specific comments on how you believe your profession has been unfairly disadvantaged.

2. Look forward to how your class evolves over multiple updates and tweaks from now, into the future.

I also don’t do PvP. RARELY do I do WvW, but that’s just from time to time.

My main is a Mesmer and I absolutely love the class, regardless of the nerfs since launch.
I just adapt.

I have an Ele, Thief and I just started a warrior to see what the big hoo haa was about.

The warrior is powerful but a bit static to me and I fear that I might just end up deleting it, like I did guardian, engi, ranger and necro.

I can’t quite get to grips with the thief but I’m willing to give it some more time.

The Ele I enjoy a lot and will definitely take to 80.

I made a second Mesmer and I am loving it all over again- I think that of all the alts she will probably hit 80 first, in which case I will have 2 lvl 80 Mesmers

So I don’t think you should discard a class because of what they might do or not- If you enjoy it, play it.
The classes I deleted, I simply found boring to play.

Games evolve and so do the classes if you truly love how it plays, you adapt

Thief. I am still very happy with it. I do not worry about nerfs. In every MMO, eventually somewhere along the line my favorite class – whatever it may be – IS going to get nerfed somehow. Expect it, be ready, and be flexible and it won’t bother you as much. Same with buffs by the way.
And because of my “expect it, be ready, be flexible” philosophy I am not one to reroll once they nerf my class. I simply do not let it ruin the fun I’m having. Besides, it forces me to rethink my character, and letting me invent new ways of playing. And that is fun in and of itself.

Btw, this is an answer I would have given for every class in every MMO.

But what if you spent all this money on gear and trinkets, then that specific build gets nerfed. Are you going to buy new gear again? Assuming you don’t have much time to play and get on about 2-6 hours per day

I don’t pick my armor for one specific build – I build my armor in a neutral way that lets me use it with different builds.
Besides, in this game you don’t really need to spend a lot of time and money to get yourself some armor.

(and I play at most 10 hours a week btw)

This is only applicable for solo play.

If you want to join a party you need to have max performance. Otherwise you’re just being a bad person and ruining fun for your teammates.

What do you mean max performance?
I would think that max skill at playing your class, understanding how you contribute to the fight in different circumstances would do much more for the party.

Weird that my guildies and friends haven’t complained so far :p
But then, but this is more of a personal preference, I prefer with people who are also flexible. Because like I said, you can expect nerfs. And people who are not ready for them and cannot adapt are more useless in the long run than the flexible ones.
There are often more than one way to finish something, and people who are dead set on one build often don’t see them. Tends to make boring runs if you do the same thing over and over and over again.

The skill has a ceiling. Skill cap is easily achieved in GW2.

After you hit it, only the raw power of profession matters. And this is where every single nerf/buff counts

Yeah, I see a lot of people running with crazy and useless builds in pugs, die in every fight and feel fine about letting 4 other people down. But some people, like meself, don’t like to be subpar.

Tosha Daydreamer, it’s not about people complaining. We don’t have dps-meters anyway. It’s about how you feel being the weakest chain in a party. I don’t like to be a fifth wheel >_>

Raw power as in DPS?

*Edit: In GW1 I played GvG quite a lot. The most fun battles were those where we created new builds and tactics. How does trying out new things make you less of a player? Who knows, you might come up with something even more powerful.

I think it’s just a difference in style and taste. I don’t like using the same set of skills and traits over and over and over and over again even if it is the most powerful one… at that moment. Does that make me a weak link in the chain or subpar? I think not, because I think I can adapt quickly to new situations and I’m not easily kitten off by nerfs.
You on the other hand like playing the most powerful build of the moment. Nothing wrong with that, but you are probably very easily upset when they nerf a skill you use.

I see, ok, this is how you feel.
I don’t agree with you at all because I think that pigeon holes you into playing DPS and totally discounts some classes while favoring others.
But you can play that way if you like and certainly you can make up your groups how you wish.

OT just play the class you enjoy- hell as you said play all of them.
If you end up with 8 lvl 80’s you can pretty much pick the best man for any job or mood.
