So glad Neverwinter is coming
Good to know, good to know.
How will the pvp be in NWO?
The irony is that you’re talking about a Cryptic game…
Neverwinter online looks like a terrible game, I can’t believe they think anyone is actually going to play it. If anything is going to take a chunk out of the GW2 player base, it will most likely be the Elder Scrolls online.

Ah well if it doesn’t have a wvw equivalent then I will pass. Currently GW2 has the best pvp out there in my opinion. We’ll see how ESO does in the pvp department because I assume it will be similar to wvw as the game directer of ESO was the head of pvp back in DAOC days, I believe.
From what I saw of Elder Scrolls online, the skill system is just mimicking what Anet did.
The land of parrot people. Why figure out what it is about something that people like, when you can just mimick what people liked.

I see what you did thar :P

The ESO game has me worried. Bethesda is stepping onto foreign ground when building an MMO and since the game is set in ESOs past there might be alot of contradicting elements.

I dunno, D&D online wasn’t exactly flying off the shelves when it went live.
I loved NWN from bioware.
Was such a great game with all the mods and player run online worlds.
But this just looks weird, sure the gfx are nice but its all too flashy and action oriented.
I want my D&D games to be dark, atmospheric and story driven.

Doesn’t NWNO use 4th Ed rules? If so, I’m staying the hell away from it. :P
Neverwinter I am excited about. The gameplay trailers have really piqued my interest to see more, it looks really good. What’s bad though is that instead of having full DnD customization, they’re rather boxing the classes into specific roles, and I don’t understand why. It’s just too bad the game is using 4th Ed, it should stuck with 3.5 or waited for DnD Next.
ESO looks like an utter waste. I’m not interested in it at all. I’ve played Elder Scroll games, and I like Elder Scroll games, but it doesn’t look good at all.
Funny thing is, I’ll be playing Neverwinter and GW2. Why give up one for the other. You can leave GW2 for a while and come back, there’s nothing wrong with that. Besides, Lost Shores was bad, but Flame and Frost made good changes, and the content looks promising. It seems a little like you’re being over dramatic.

Sorry to tell you this, but I am one of that fan base that played way back then and I can’t say Neverwinter and the 4e Rules really interest me. Pathfinder and Paizo publishing are the true successors to Dungeons and Dragons, not Wizards and 4e. I know I will be playing guild wars 2 followed by elder scrolls online and pathfinder online when they are eventually released. I’m sure Neverwinter will gather a niche of players but it wont dent GW2 anywhere near as much as Elder Scrolls will.
True, Guild wars 2 has some work. One of my friends put it really well, “Guild wars is just having an identity crisis”. They want to stay F2P and keep a cash shop, they want to keep the game casual, but also hardcore aspects. They want to allow all classes to be able to do everything. They want(ed) to keep the Guild wars 1 fans attached with similar aspects, but always wanted to be innovative and new. GW2 took a lot of risk, which is good. It is what the gaming industry needs, it is how it grows. Like all MMOs it will take some time to balance out, get balanced, and get patched. But I feel if we stick with it, it will eventually become something great.

If you take a look at MMO history it seems companies which are ‘inexperienced’ at making MMOs generally make the better MMOs whereas the experienced ones (those who’ve made at least one) make worse second (or third) games which does not live up to expectations.
Games like neverwinter nights and elder scrools are offline games and they should stay this way.. all this ‘online’ mania is ridiculous and will drag whole franchise down.

Actually – the Neverwinter Nights from Bioware and later Obsidian was very much made with multiplayer purpose.
In fact the original NwN was meant as a method of bringing PnP RP into the computer age – that it didn’t …. well, that was more to do with poor implementation from Bioware.
As for Elder Scrolls games, then the open nature of those games and their quest structure would lend themselves quite well to a multiplayer setting and further into a MMO setting.

To be fair, NWN1 had incredibly longevity with the amount of player-created mods and adventures (some of which were actually superior to the OC created by Bioware). The DM client was also a revolutionary breakthrough for cRPGs at the time, something which I think no other cRPG has succeeded in surpassing since then.
As the title states I am giddy about Neverwinter Online going live in a few months. Ever since the Nov 28 patch this game has continually gone downhill especially since Anet seems determined to put out sub par, boring, and bland content and veering off the road that made GW1 what it was. A GREAT game. Now this game has bottomed and become worse than most F2P korean MMOs.
Yeah I agree. I don’t like Neverwinter though seems boring but thats just me some like you find it entertaining which is great
Can you please comment on my thread ‘In my opinion there is to much grinding in this game’

Indeed.
In a time when mmo’s were not yet mainstream the fact that it supported custom made player operated ‘mmo’ worlds, without monthly fee was very nice.
Well it wasn’t really an massivemo, max 96 ppl / server i think.
But that was still a lot since the worlds were not that huge as real mmo’s.

I am part of that fanbase having played pen and paper D&D since the late 80’s
and No I couldn’t care less that Neverwinter online is coming out. It looks terrible.
I didn’t even like the last Neverwinter Nights single player.
As for DDO, that put me off completely- I hated that game.

waiting…..waiting…..oh that’s right your opinion is trivial
For those anticipating NWO, I wish you well. However, NWO will be a Perfect World F2P game, complete with P2W and gamble boxes coming out of your characters’ ears. If that floats your boat, then more power to you.

Same with GW2. Only difference? I was dumb enough to pay 35 bucks for what I couldve done for free.

You’re ignoring the larger picture behind their posts. The D&D fanbase is incredibly fractured. Take me, for example. I’ve played D&D since the mid-80’s; I started on Advanced D&D, went on to AD&D 2nd Ed, then switched to 3.0/3.5 Ed. I and my group still play 3.5, because we hated the way that 4E largely homogenized the different classes, and because it ripped the guts out of a lot of past D&D lore. We have not, and will not, touch any D&D game that uses 4th Ed. rules. (Maybe we might come back for D&D Next, but that’s another issue.)
There are also players out there who are still sticking to 2nd Ed, or even earlier versions. Then you have the D&D players who don’t like video games at all, or might dislike the way that Turbine and Cryptic have implemented their vision of D&D.
All that means that you can’t rely on the fact that D&D has a large following who love the brand name to instantly jump on board when Neverwinter is released. There are many more factors in play which could drive them away or lose their interest.
Please, shut the door after you leave.
Remember when people said <insert game here> would kill EQ1, EQ2, AC1, WoW, and the list goes on? Ya, those games are still around.

Just like you’re claiming that NWO will have an impact on GW2. Which it wont.
NWO has almost nothing to do with D&D, matter of fact most NWN fans hate it. Check their message boards sometime.

Thank you, you put it very well.
I also started on Advanced D&D and played from there- I hate 4th Ed.
The only video games that I enjoyed based on D&D was Baldur’s gate series, but more because they were superb and not because they were based on D&D
OK… if you implement DnD rules on a MMO, how do you do it?
Do you have like thousands of level 20’s(or 40’s?) running around? (lol)
or do they cap the level at 10?
Either way it screws up the immersion side of the rules or makes it a bad rule set for a successful MMO. I don’t understand why people think it would be a good idea to make a DnD MMO.

I started with D&D Basic and played right through till 3.5e. Hated and still hate 4e.
The only computer game that even came close to replicating the game in it’s true form was Temple of Elemental Evil by Troika in 2003. Nothing else has come close and never will.

OMG…. TOEE fan!!!! I beat another game of TOEE a couple months ago rofl.. the best implementation of DnD on PC and the best turn based combat system every created.
Too bad Troika is gone now, and nobody makes turn-based games like that anymore.
I liked the original NWN and didn’t like the second one. This MMO of Neverwinter…dunno, I think it’s going to be a big perfect world rip off game again. Cash shop deluxe and all that.
I am not much of a fan of GW2, sadly, cause I wanted to like it but I don’t have the expectation that Neverwinter is going to be that great. But it’s f2p so it’s worth a look anyways I guess but I have my doubts.

You got off cheap. I gave Cryptic a lot more than that for CO and STO, but I’ve learned my lesson. I’m sure you have your reasons for your distaste for GW2. That said (IMO) expecting anything good to come out of Cryptic Studios is a fool’s errand.
Oh, there’s another difference. I played GW2 for two hours today, and got 1 Black Lion Chest. In CO, I get a lockbox drop on average about once per two minutes.

The difference is the gamble boxes in PW games have actual progression items in them, they aren’t just cosmetic. Not to mention the cash shops are total P2W. GW2 is not P2W, you don’t need anything out of the cash shop to play.
NWO will fail just because it is cryptic and perfect world, just look at the games that cryptic made, and look at how perfect world does business
Hurr GW1 had no grind
Yes it had? It had one of the worst grinds I’ve ever seen.
Currently playing Heart of Thorns.
I dont know why ppl are crying about grind you want everything free or what? Seriously todays gamers act like spoiled brats. Also i would like to know wheres in GW2 grind? I had pretty much best stats item at lvl 80 for litteraly few golds (some runes are expensive but really it doesnt make much difference….) yes you can grind for prettier stuffs or making legendary (i accualy think farming lege is fun i like the 100% explo, all the gifts, only pain is precursor but its lege it should be like this….)
Its like ppl who play 1h/day thinks they should have to be able get legendary….on topic NWN was fun beacuse of the story MMO wont have it so its gonna be bad its really easy math to me….
