So how about Legendary...armor!?!
It was discussed rather extensively in the CDI threads about progression, but they did announce at PAX that they’d never introduce another tier of gear. Then again, the armor could have the same stat distribution as ascended armor and just have the cool effects and ability to change the stats out of combat. Anyway, I’d prefer to see legendary-rarity dyes, myself. (patterns, glows, effects… seems way more fun, to me.)

Because we can’t be angry about both?
It would be cool, but it really depends how they make it. I know Matt Visual really wants it lol i personally would rather not have it since idc much for legendaries. I wish they would focus on making more skins in general that are not gem store that look cool and have effects, i.e. foefire’s essence. If they do make it it should cost at max twice a legendary at the moment or a little less, and it shouldnt be time gated. Also if it should be shared on different weight as you suggested. Legendary armor has the possibility to be the biggest grind ever which is why i think it should be avoided if theyre moving in that direction
What i’d rather they focus on is creating new weapons / giving new weapons and skils to classes because its a lot more fun to play the game and expiriment than just look cool.
Also one thing to be cautious about is that legendary armor may not be made simply because people in full suits of armor wth crazy effects may just be artistically hard to make and to make not annoying. I already kind of hate the radiant armor skins because they bother my eyes while playing. Legendaries aren’t so bad but when theyre are a hundred at once its a bit much. Imagine doing a world boss where 50 people are in legendary armor with legendaries…the worst convention of cluttered effects ever.

Well Legendary isn’t another tier, it’s the armor tier as ascended. Legendary is just a prestige version of ascended gear at this point.

Well I don’t have legendaries and don’t grind too much, but I always felt legendary gear and infused armor and all that was an incentive for keeping people who like to play hardcore grindy interested in the game.
Since you don’t NEED to grind they have grindy stuff in the game as optional for people who enjoy the grind. Also people from other MMOs are used to grinding for the best gear, so it might be an appeal to people who are used to that type of endgame in MMOs.
Sure, as soon as they let me remove sigils and runes from legendary weapons and armor without using an extractor that costs more than the sigil/rune itself.

Exactly. We should be able to change sigils and runes as easily (and inexpensively) as we change our trait setups.

Oh I like this idea. Reminds me of the paintbrushes in Neopets.
I’d like to see Legendary Armors that have same stats level as the Ascended armors but with the ability to change stats out of combat. Basically like getting Obsidian Armor in GW but you choose your stats. Also would like same option for the Legendary Weapons.
I’ve certainly seen it discussed quite frequently.
The big problem with legendary armor compared to legendary weapons as I see it is that armor comes in sets, where weapons are standalone. You can make one legendary weapon and you’re done, you feel like you’ve accomplished something and you can use it fully as soon as you get it, whereas with armor you need to make 6 pieces if you want the whole look. Crafting one would just make it feel incomplete.
Which means either a massively huge grind compared to legendary weapons, or they give you the full set for the same cost as a legendary weapon, which might be too far in the other direction of giving too much reward for the same effort. A whole set of variable-stat armor for one of each type of legendary component would be pretty crazy.
Or, I suppose, they could have a different system for legendary armor compared to legendary weapons. Have it use something else besides the Gifts of Mastery / Luck / whatever.
The other potential issue would be making the armors visually distinct enough without making them horribly gaudy and overdesigned in order to make them stand out. I mean, there are already constant complaints about the legendary weapons that aren’t super flashy needing to be improved so they stand out more, and I remember a ton of complaining about the ascended armor not being impressive enough. So they’d probably have to go all-out with crazy particle effects or whatever in order to satisfy people. But then you have dozens and dozens of people (eventually) running around in super flashy armor sets making the game look like a rave.
Sure, there are a few armor sets with particle effects already and there aren’t THAT many people wearing those, but none of those have the added prestige of being legendary. That prestige aspect is enough to push a lot of people to use legendary weapons already, so I assume the very same would happen with armor.
Plus, since armors can be dyed, fancy particle effect legendary armor opens up a whole new can of worms where people will want to dye their particle effects (and if they can’t people will complain about it loudly, because its legendary and they worked hard and how can you not let them dye it after all that work blargblarghrabblerabblerabble). Which may or may not even be something GW2 can support. Certainly its something we haven’t seen thus far.
I’d imagine Legendary armor to be similar to Radiant armor. Radiant armor’s distinct glow is prestigious. We all know where it comes from and immediately we know that we are looking at an achievement hunter.
Something flashy… Glowy? Maybe some streaks? Or possibly effects that only occur on cast?
There was a Challenge Mode (a set of dungeons with strict rules, gear scaling, extra boss mechanics, and time limits) set in WoW that I wore on my Mage that had bright floating Dalaran icons over my head and shoulders whenever I cast or channeled a spell. I thought that was pretty cool.
