Heart of Thorns is basically end game content.
You’ll have to get the Silverwastes. Located through here:

After that you’ll heavy to turn on Heart of Thorns story.
Press H
Story Journal Tab (4th tab)
Start the Episode/Chapter
Follow the Green Star to Red Rock Bastion in the Silverwastes
Click " yes " to the instance
Follow the green indicators through that mini story to enter Verdant Brink.
Verdant Brink is your first bit of Heart of Thorns content. It’s pretty huge, lots of fun, but difficult till you’ve got your elite specialization unlocked quite a bit and have gotten into your masteries some.
Mastery Points are leveled like Hero Points, but you have to explore the world of find them. Maguuma has its own and Central Tyria has different ones. Maguuma’s are found by completing challenges or exploration. Central Tyria I’m less familiar with as I had 100%’d things a long time ago ankitten ot sure what they involve.

So i just Bought the expansion, I wanted to know do i need to download anything or is the heart of thorns expansion already included into guild wars 2 updates but i just have access to it once i claimed the serial code?
To answer the direct question: no, it’s not a separate client/download once you’ve successfully used the serial key.
