…WoW veterans who are disappointed that the game doesn’t have enough of a grind, and GW1 veterans who are disappointed that the game has a grind.

It’s really mainly in the forums. Once you get into the game you rarely see much of the trolling that happens here. Yes, people are a little ticked about blocking bugs that have been left since launch, but overall the sentiment seems to be much higher in-game than on the forums.

What I don’t understand is how people can gripe about needing 30-40 dungeon runs to get armor from a dungeon, but in WoW, to get Tier13 cataclysm armor, you’d literally run a combination of several HUNDRED raids and dungeons.

The bottom line is that people will gripe about anything if you give them the chance.

You’re way over generalizing . Im a Guild Wars veteran of 7 years now and as far as “grind” is concerned i dont really care either way . Guild Wars 1 had its grinds too you just had specialized builds for it . Its more about what people find fun and if they’re not getting it they’re going to complain

Fortunately, those people who genuinely want the grind (as opposed to just using to as an excuse to moan in these forums) have a whole expansion of all-new grind going live for them in less than 24 hours.

Got nothing for the guys on the other end of the spectrum, I’m afraid. At least there’s the consolation that this game has very little MANDATORY grind. If you want to waer the armour skin that shows you’ve run the same dungeon dozens of times then, well, duh… you have to run that dungeon a lot. But it’s not as if you’re gated from large portions of the game by not having done that grind – I mean, a design like that would be insane. all it could ever do is alienate a chunk of your player base and result in much development effort going into content that the majority of players would never get to see

A lot of the GW1 grind was optional too. At least depending on what you considered finishing the game.

But yeah, I’m a GW1 player too and I don’t mind grind as long as I feel like it’s optional in some way. (And that way isn’t grind for days/weeks or pay £50.) So far I haven’t had a problem with the grind in this game at all.

Absolutely I agree 100% . If i wanted a VSF , FoW armor or a title i knew i was going to have to do some grinding . Same goes for GW2 if i want that T3 Cultural or a Legendary there’s going to be grind involved that’s just something people have to accept .

Slightly off topic, but it’s a travesty that the T3 Cultural armor and weapons are only Rare, and not Exotic. You can go to Orr and get Exotic armor for 42k Karma each…

It was bound to be that way and every online game released in the last few years had a complaintfest in the forums. It is just the way internet personalities are these days. As long as devs do realize vocal minorities are just that, no great harm is done.

The people who are enjoying the game are, you know, playing the game. Not wasting away on the forum.

Truth. Seriously, just ask in map chat if everyone’s enjoying the game, and you’ll see massive amounts of praise for GW2 and ANet.

I’ve done it several times for S’s and G’s. It’s amazing how stark the difference is in attitude between the game and its forum.
