Buying the basic standard edition of Gw2 HoT gives us a serial code.

This code will give us:

Access to Gw2
Access to Gw2 HoT

So as a new account, this opens both Gw2 and Gw2HoT.

If applied to an existing Gw2 account;

Access to Gw2HoT
+1 additional character slot?

No. If applied to existing GW2 account you get:

Access to GW2 HoT

and that’s all. No additional character slots.

I’m not sure if that’s a reasonable measure of something being wrong. Clearly there are players that aren’t happy, but then again we saw just as many threads when they released the Dragonhunter.

im just glad cabal2 comes out soon, then again blade&soul, and free to play wildstar. So far this expansion is really crapy, there’s no more hype and what they’ve showed us so far is bad ( dragonhunter). Anet is lazy

It’s definitely bad form. If the price includes the core game, I want a second basic account. I mean, how can you fault anyone for wanting what is included in the price?

There no way to make ppl feel rewarded you have ppl who are using self deceiving math that will always have it come up that they should not get it due to how much it is even if it was 20$. Ppl simply do not want to pay for it.

To be honest, throwing in a character slot for those who already have the base game would likely solve a lot of the issues including issues with pricing.

Basically, under all of this there seems to be underhanded marketing tactics and grandfathering. This has annoyed a lot of people and sowed the seeds of distrust thus making people scrutinise what they usually wouldn’t bat an eyelid at.

Tbf as it stands I am going to farm gold to transfer to gems to get a character slot. I am not actually putting money in for now. I won’t be pre-purchasing unless Anet give me a good reason to. Beta access and a title? Meh. I’m waiting until release, the first few days are always a shambles anyway.

You don’t know that.

Obviously, there will be people who either can’t, or won’t, pay anything of they can help it.

But there are other people who have some sort of lesser amount in mind that they would be prepared to pay.

You have to remember that some people have several accounts, so they are talking about $150, or more, here, to upgrade them all.

Personally, I think that is one of the other issues in this game; that people play WvW on all 3 competing servers, simultaneously.

How can you hope to have honest competition with that happening?

I, personally, think they should limit WvW participation to one server per household.

…but that’s another topic.

One way and another this game isn’t currently worth kitten xpac, IMO.

It could be with some work, but it isn’t currently.

ETA: …and how on earth a multi million dollar company can think it’s OK to stick with a forum which turns “a fifty dollar” (in numbers and $) into “kitten”, not to mention its other bugs, I have absolutely no idea?

The game is evolving from vanilla GW2 to GW2 HoT, after HoT I don’t believe vanilla will be available to purchase anymore as it will be included.

So if you already own GW2 you are upgrading to HoT, if you are new you are getting HoT. The cost and value of vanilla is non existent anymore.

+ Character slot for a standard expansion would be a reasonable fix.

Or are we basing everything on just what they have in the store now as thats all that we are going to get?

It seems silly to assume that in order to get the expansion you have to buy a whole new account. So instead of jumping to conclusions why don’t we wait until we have some more information?

For all of the people that think the complaints are only in the forum, pretty much every world map I have been in today has been extremely negative.

I don’t have a problem with the price, but I have a serious problem with the fact that new customers will be getting more value, for the same price as veterans. It’s quite simply a slap in the face for veterans who have been supporting them by buying the core game (in some cases, more than one account), and purchasing gems throughout the game’s life. The bare minimum that should be included with the standard version, for any current owners, is one or two extra character slots. I get the marketing tactic, but it appears tone deaf and sleazy.

Key word “Current”. Again, we don’t have much information concerning the matter. Just that it’s on sale, and it’s $50 and includes the core game.
