So, especially after seeing the specs of the new expansion, is it safe to assume that Anet has ditched the whole pet-AI thing?
This isn’t entirely a rant, it’s just that i’m quite disappointed that both hunter and necro were never able to make proper use of one of their core features.

You can still run a pet/minion build if you want. It’s just another option.

No, not even remotely true. Mesmer, ranger and necromancer still have minions/pets, and future (and HoT) elite specs will not have the same mechanics that these specs do.

Revenant is getting a pet(-ish?) spec in Kalla Scorchrazor’s warband commands.

Though, to be fair, when talking raids, etc., there’s few things more irritating for a Ranger (or WoW-Hunter) than a pet in the wrong place, costing the team issues and lowering dps. Especially for Ranger, since pets die from a random pin-prick on bosses. I’m jonsing for Soulbeast just for that reason.

I want an expansion spec that focuses on the minions for Necro

and gives us some BIG meaty monsters that are good for zerg fights…….

yeah would be nice if necromancer in this game would be an actual necromancer…

Pets rarely die if you know how to play Ranger. Pets have a 95% damage and condition duration reduction in PvE when untargeted. If they are targeted, you can just swap pets before they die, they have double health in PvE as well.

Shades will be like minions.

Also, you can always practice going without minions in any game mode. Siren’s Landing PvE is my recommendation for life without pets.

When im rolling solo, I run minions, and will continue to run them in PoF. You are right in the aspect that they arent useful for group content… but it’s nice to have options for group, pvp, and solo content imo.

i really like like the new buff to the shadow fiend im totally can start using it feeling less guilty in fractals for the dps loss i gave my group i also think the blood fiend need to be reworked personally i like it instead to have an active ability alot like life siphon(https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Life_Siphon) and instead of just having one how about multiple? like you summon 1 every 5 or 10 second while being in combat

having a minnion spec with condition dmg that rivals other condi builds in the game so it can be used in raids etc. would be a dream come true for me

the minion master in pvp im sure would do good with a buff/change to the blood fiend.
