»Everyone has the right to voice opinion«, so here is mine. So many people complain about the game, and now I’ll complain about you!

It’s making me puke to read all the whining on this forum! I swear if I’d be the director I’d just close down the forums and say »Screw you guys, you’re on your own!«

“I want this, I want that, I wanna kill fluffy white bunnies to get 100% precursor drop!”

 • I don’t like this backpeace/weapon/armor – um…. don’t get it than?
 • Why do I have to do fractals for this ascended peace “weee weee” – Well where else would you actually “need” to use ascended peace’s than in…I dunno… fractals? :L
 • We want expansions!!! – »I want better topics on forums!« Anet is working its kitten off to give us as much as possible, with LS. True, its not as massive, but it’s there and its free. Your constant nagging for expansion won’t speed things up, so give it a rest. When they’ll decide to, and be ready for expansion, we’ll get it.
 • I don’t like LS! – cry me and many others that enjoy it, a huge river. A lot of work went into it, and even more will in the future, show some respect! You’re getting free stuff if you want it or not.
 • We want SAB!!! – while the community clearly made the creator feel bad last time around! So blame other players for not having SAB back any time soon, not devs!
 • I want mounts! – what for? So you can travel the distance between 2 WPs 5% faster? As if its not enough we have WPs every 50m and most classes have a way of having constant swiftness. What, you wanna be fancy and look down on mobs? Wanna be immune to combat as well while at it to make your ore farm even easier? It’s not practical, I see no need for it, and I don’t see how such a thing could bring new and old players to come play gw2 :L
 • Dry top sucks! – don’t play it?
 • I don’t like combat – make it like…. . …TERA! – go play tera than?
 • I wanna get whatever item whatever way I want it! – right right…so.. because you’re not a PVP guy/gal, you wanna get Balthazars backpack by killing 1000 frogs in the swamp? Or since you don’t wanna PVP nor do dungeons, you wanna get CoF from flame legion mobs with 50% drop rate? You can get a lot more stuff in this game by playing different content, a lot more than other MMOs offer! I support that some items should be available only to those who do certain things.
 • I don’t wanna work for X or Y – then continue to be a lazy kitten without X or Y cause you clearly don’t deserve it.
 • We want new dungeons!!! – while at the same time – “we hate dungeons and grouping up for content and grind them over and over!!!((” And when the last time they did something about dungeons, everyone just complained again.
 • and so on and so forth

Everyone would have everything – just make a “casual” content merchant where you can buy every single item in the game for max 50 gold, right? Lets all have everything very easy, and die of boredom 2 weeks later, with no more goals to achieve, and leave the game empty till next LS.

I hate RNG, like many others, but I don’t bother devs about it. If you don’t like gathering for mats, do something that you enjoy doing in the game and BUY it. Every part of content awards you with some kind of reward you can make money off.

To sum up – lets just change everything about what GW2 is!!! :LLL
One game will never have everything that everyone wants. So after so long, just deal with it. New things will be implemented when they are ready.
If you don’t like things in GW2 soooo much, just go back to WoW or w/e game you like better, and give this poor people a break.

This is by far the best MMO I’ve played, and I’ve tried tons. Anet, you’re doing a smashing job! Thank you!

And for all you who’ll be all smart about my ranting – there is a difference between improvement suggestions and str8 up whining.

I completely agree with OP. There are really some stupid “whining” people on this forum who will whine on just about everything. And the people who are “unhappy” because Anet is not releasing “sufficient” content, I would like to inform them that the devs are also humans and like all humans they also need breaks. And, creating new content and programming new stuffs is not some kind of magic which can be performed in an instant. It takes a lot of planning, effort and time to create new contents. And just for the WoW lovers, how much “free” content did you guys get from your beloved “kill x amount of mob” mmo? And WoW hardly release new content per year.

So, guys, stop complaining and enjoy the content you already have instead of whining for what you don’t have. And if you think that GW2 is grindy, then I would like to welcome you to WoW and I would also like to challenge you to find me one another MMO which is as marvellous as GW2 and offers lesser grinding.

My thoughts on it is this: criticism is good as it shows how much you love the game to the point where you want to see it better than what it already is. But at the same time, whining about things not going your way is the wrong way of asking someone to improve upon something especially if you are not being too specific about why you are whining in the first place as you are giving little for the developers to work with. Don’t expect Anet to fix something just because you said: “kitten U 4 NERFING FGS. FIX THIS PLOX!”.

If you got a criticism that you posted on this forum, do not expect that it will happen in a short time as there are so many posters on an hourly basis that the community team would probably only acquire a small fraction of the feedback in a day, maybe more if they got the extra diligence. In the case of SAB, it’s not gonna be gone. SAB is a kitten popular feature. It will be back. When? I don’t know. But it WILL come back eventually.

Overall, I know this game has issues (since when has there been a perfect MMO?) and Anet is definitely improving upon it for all of you guys. Criticize to your hearts content but know the difference between constructive criticism and just outright whining.

EDIT: Just want to add that I am seeing more whining posts than I see more detailed criticism.

There are really some stupid “whining” people on this forum who will whine on just about everything.

Especially mounts. Especially about not wanting them. =P

But yeah, let’s stop the whining and actually discuss things that matter. Not argue, but discuss. Now if/when a feature should be, but how it can work. Then maybe if it should. Saying “Nonono” to everything outright doesn’t change things. Which means they can’t change for the better.

Many alts; handle it!

Gah. Okay, as much as I’m enjoying the game, a lot of people do have legitimate complaints. And yes, there’s a lot of complaints that I don’t think are as relevant or reasonable, but…you can’t really have one without the other. You have to allow complaints to get the reasonable and good ones.

You can’t stop people from complaining or pick and choose complaints. You have to accept them all, and just realize that some people aren’t going to be reasonable.

True, but surely there are instances when the whining goes too far, right?

Yes, there are instances where it goes too far, but the alternative to allowing that it to limit speech to such a degree as to cut off the legitimate complaints that Anet needs to hear to improve the game.

Like the thing about the commander tags. That went “too far” but the people who were saying it happened to be correct. It was the wrong move. Anet saw it and corrected it.

Anet is going to have to make changes to the trait system. I’m sure they won’t revert it, but they’ll have to alter it somehow. Again without those pages and pages of complaints, why would they.

There’s definitely a balance, but in the name of fairness we should err on the side of caution.

OP, not everyone enjoys the same type of content as you do. Some prefer dungeons or WvW over living story content. Should they not voice their opinions on the forums when they dislike the direction ANet is taking with the game, or believe ANet is making a mistake? Believe it or not, almost all of us here enjoy the game and want it to be the best it can be.

I have to agree with some points the OP made. Especially SAB. There had been some mistakes with the second world but the crapstorm that happened was really insane and had a bad impact on the creator SAB

But there is one more thing I would add.
" This is too hard". This complain happens at almost every content that is a bit harder than the normal open stuff like the fight with
The Shadow of the dragon
. Srsly if this is hard than GW1 must be the Dark Souls of MMOs. Don’t get me wrong I liked this fight, it was fun and more challenging than 90% of the PvE stuff, but not really that hard. And this complain even happen on stuff that is intentionelly hard, like Tequatl or the Worm ( well now they are at Farm Status and now not really hard because every one knows how they work ) Especially Teq got this sort of complains ( more likely a storm of complains ) after the first fight against him

Is it only me or do we have now a wave of Demand threads?

As much as it does seem like the forums are an endless torrent of poorly developed thoughts and random brain dumping of complaints… these sort of response threads help even less.

These forums ARE here for people to voice their opinions and suggestions, even if they can go way overboard doing it. My suggestion for people who think the toxic, negative forums are too much… walk away from it, and play the game you enjoy.

Maybe this is difficult for you to understand, but many people complain because they enjoy the game and they don’t like their game type to be neglected. Let me give you a brief list of the stuff you can do in GW2: Open-World (Events, bosses, etc.), Dungeons (Including Fractals), Personal Story, WvW, sPvP, Jumping Challenges (Puzzles, S.A.B., etc.) to name a few.

sPvP’ers were neglected for months – if not close to years. The game launched with a terrible Tournament Ticket system where players paid gems in order to play. There was a division between sPvP and PvE characters. These people who enjoyed the game type were not “whining” about being neglected; they wanted their game type to improve and grow. ArenaNet has given them some attention that they sought, although all their grievances are not resolved.

Dungeons have received little attention in comparison. Since Fractals of the Mist was released two years ago, the biggest update that came since then was – a revamp to Fractals of the Mists. (And the replacement of TWkitten Calling the players who enjoy dungeons “whiners” is really offensive because you clearly don’t understand the basics of the argument. If you’re going to make a game type, the community of that game type would expect it to not be neglected for long stretches of time.

But hey, it’s pretty obvious by your post that you just are fishing for some up-votes and an echo-chamber of people clamoring, “YEAH I AGREE EVERYTHING IS SWEET AND DANDY!”

One way or another, it boils down to new content.

Each person has their own idea of what they’d like to see the most, whether that’s dungeons, DE’s, WvWvW, or sPvP. Classes, weapons, playable races.

No matter what the specific preference, the point is people want NEW content, and lots of it.

LS is ok for some – I don’t think it’s terrible.

But I don’t think it suffices for enough new content. I think it’s a little weak, a little half baked, and a bit of a cop-out.

When S2 started, my hopes were raised temporarily as I thought that an entire new region of the world was about to open up.

And all we got was Dry Top.

Now, I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with Dry Top – I’m saying it’s not enough.

I’m saying they should have opened up four or five new maps (even one per episode would be just fine).

When I learned that Dry Top was all their was, I was severely disappointed.

It’s just too little.

I want more (and bigger, and better) dungeons and fractals. More loot (Legendary armor would be awesome, and better drop rates). More open world content.

More WvWvW maps, but also more diversity in play (aside from the zerg which seems that is about all there is to do in WvWvW).

And so on.

Some new weapons, maybe a new class and and a new race.

These are the only things that will keep people busy – LS feels like a placation.

The game has been out for two years already, the lack of expansion content is unacceptable, and if not remedied soon, the game will bleed players.

After which the crapstorm was over and constructive discussions between the community and creator started. Discussions for which he got reprimanded for btw.

The problem is why Devs, with a strait face mind you, tell you that after 2 years they still have NO PLANS to add anything different to any of the CORE AREAS of gameplay.

The only thing being worked right now is the Living Story, the biggest joke of the MMO market.

Now excuse me when as a player im virtually told that there will be nothing added to the platter for the next 6 months at the very least. So now I wonder why I should even continue to play if all I am doing is grinding in cursed shore/try top or any of the fractals for the 100th time with virtually no reward???

I dont think they HAVE to tell me what there doing.
i would appreciate it but no they dont.
and an MMO is different to a boxed rpg, sure u pay for the box but the idea of an MMO is based around community’s and a consumer continuing to play the game.
if the consumer stops playing the game, the developers make less money and the community’s grow smaller and the smaller the player base the more empty the game feels and for alot of people that is where the death of an mmo begins ( not saying gw2 is dying, just saying thats what happens)

and because community is such a big thing in an mmo its important for the developers to gain there trust (done for me in gw1)
however right now there is very little communication and this is effecting the the trust that we have in the developers ability to keep us “hooked” with new and interesting content.

Communication goes a long way especially in MMOs, purely for the fact that they are not just boxed games u buy and play through once.

and not once have i demanded anything btw
i have requested things sure but demanding is pointless

If enough of us leave, the game dies.

Hence, feedback.

By voicing our complaints, instead of remaining silent, we are giving Anet an opportunity to provide what we need from the game, so that we may continue spending more money on it, so that they may continue developing the game.

You should worry more about when people stop complaining – that means that they are truly gone, and have moved on to a new game – and then the players are fewer, the revenue dries up, and the game disappears.

I don’t feel voicing complaints gets ANYTHING done when its not constructive. Especially when its just whining about things you hate but NEVER any ways to improve what you don’t like. That is your problem, not mine. I don’t have to hate it. I also don’t base my opinion on the health of the game based on the minute amount of people that use the forums.

I highly doubt this game is going anywhere, so go ahead and leave. The whole forums of people could leave and I doubt there would be much of a difference actually in the game. A lot of it stems also from the fact that a large portion of people that post on the forums whining still play the game on a regular basis.

If enough of us leave, the game dies.

Not really. Maybe PvP and WwW, but if they could introduce a Hero System like in GW1 (or allow our alt toons to be add to our group and PC controlled), then I would be more than happy. Actually, I would probably play more dungeons and fractals then.

Then why do you frequent the forums?

Why do you bother to respond to these threads?

I’m using the past as indication of what happens to MMO’s – I’ve been around this block so many times before, with Warhammer Online, Rift, and lots of others.

Will GW2 end up the same? Or can it beat the odds?

My feedback amounts to this: in order to beat the odds, Anet, you have to produce a lot more NEW content.

Recycling stuff (i.e., livid story) doesn’t really count – not that it was the worst thing you could have done – it’s ok – but because it’s not enough.

More maps (entire regions).
More dungeons.
Etc.

You’ve seen my laundry list.

That’s what will keep this game in the Top 10 – maybe even Top 5.

More content, and nothing less.

Sure, a Hero system would be fine.

But I’m talking about revenue drying up because people leave.

If that happens, then everyone’s kitten out of luck.

You do realize that if enough players leave development stops…or that the remaining players would have to make up the revenue shortcomings right. You in a position to drop ten grand a month on GW2?

RNG has never worked. Look at their sister game Wildstar, and you’ll see the problem. Even Diablo III eventually had to change the way in which drops occur because they were so few and far between even the devs didn’t see them! It’s just a very very bad design that should stay back in 2004 where it belongs.

It’s my privilege same as your to come and post and read. I come here to offer my own insights. More More More doesn’t make anything better. People will always complain and about everything. Also I don’t know why you are complaining AT me. I never once actually singled you out other than they fact that you are hijacking someone else’s thread to complain more.

I went to Dry Top only once, when it was released, I found it hideous according to my likings, never went there again;
Find LS so darn boring I’m not even doing it anymore, I simply ignore it;
I like to run dungeons and in TWO kitten ED YEARS I HAVE BEEN RUNNING ALWAYS AND ONLY THE SAME BUGGED REPETITIVE PATHS, FROM HEADSTART TO NOW, thus I have, together with others in my position, all the right to be fairly annoyed at this point.

There is a difference between voicing your concerns, giving constructive criticism, suggesting an idea and simply straight up whining. And most people on this forum, the only way they know how to express themselves is by complaints only.

My thinking is these people are not very educated and have no real life social skills to begin with. Any normal person would understand that the devs are humans too, and that they WILL make mistakes, but it is up to us to let them know about it in a civilized manner, not kitten about it because it makes you feel better to talk to someone like that.

I’m glad the OP made this post, because people really need to open their eyes and see how much harm and negativity they are bringing to this environment.

I don’t think it’s so much a lack of education or social skills. I think it’s just that a lot of people see these situations as, “If there is a problem, it’s the devs’ job to fix it – that’s what they’re paid for.” So to them, trying to come up with complex suggestions or arguments is like doing the devs’ work for them.

While some of us are just genuinely interested in how games work on a theoretical level and want our favorite games to be better, so we delve into complicated stuff as if we are developers ourselves.

Or words to that effect.

As a forum we all can voice our opinions, criticisms, complaints, and suggestions. I think you’re taking the “whining” a tad too far – these posts are made by players, for the most part, who genuinely care for their game just as much as you do. Try and see the other side of the hill.

Honestly, it’s people like you that escalate the so called “whining”.

If someone posts a criticism or a complaint about the game or any of it’s features – the white knights rush in to defend Anet – and this escalates into a battle of trying to get heard above the din.

If people like you and the OP didn’t feel like you had to start an argument over whether people’s concerns and desires for the game are legitimate or not every time someone makes a post, I bet there would be far fewer posts like it.

So don’t “white knight”.

People whining about whiners….How original.

Guess I’ll give my opinion and whine too, in the form of a game to game comparison, even though white knights really, really, really hate it when people do that.

My Whining opinion :::
Final Fantasy XIV is like Guild Wars 2 in almost every way. We get regular free updates that adds so much stuff, it makes other MMO’s absolutely pathetic by comparison. The Difference is that one of these games has a confirmed Expansion, confirmed new Classes, confirmed updates to existing classes (not including balance), as well as originally Confirmed(and already implemented) housing. The devs of that game are very honest, and give us honest yes or no answers almost all the time. The other game has almost no confirmed future content, and has a unique nature that makes people feel like the Devs are chasing them around a bush with a really big stick until they pass out and forget what questions they were asking, because they get an honest yes or no answer about as often as leap years.

My not whining opinion :::
@Thread…whatever. Every game has people who complain about everything, and these forums aren’t anywhere near as bad as what you see in other games. Even if we don’t always(if ever) get a yes or no answer, at least Arenanet is communicating with us almost on a daily basis. I can say the same thing about maybe two other game companies, and that’s not a number the gaming industry should be proud of….
