So, my server is taking a beat on WvW and....
these things will sort themselves out over time as guilds grow and stablise and you’ll start to see guilds themselves with their commanders running around wvw and coordinating with other guilds to cap towers and supply camps.
but to expect perfection from the player base….is just crazy.
and also those commanders still want to play the game you know play the auction house, do pve and such they don’t have to babysit wvw 24 hours a day.
edit: Anet gave the players the tools to enjoy wvw, some will use those tools and others will abuse them, but those players are still people.

Some commanders never even go to WvW. I think that they should make commanders electable with badges of honor, not gold, and it shoulf be in temporary terms.
thats just one aspect though, your missing the point of guild wars then, guilds will be the ones that have commanders and will no doubt in due time be on the battle field with thier guilds.
just because the situation right now isn’t perfect doesn’t mean it won’t change drasticly over the coming months.
Are you on Ehmry bay?
Stop bringing up GUILD WARS as a literal term, that is only a lore reference.
Fact is commanders get the title by monetary power and not combat proficiency. It’s like putting Bill Gates to command an army squad on the middle of Iraq. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. There is no excuses.
Considering how expensive Commander books are I would be quite shocked if those that have it right now are not gold farmers and marketers… And if not I question where thy got the funds to get said commander book. Gold sellers probably…
That being said I wish the commander book was more useful in PvE. IE larger team building… If you only want them to be given to those that earn the right for them, so be it, take them off the venders for currency and have them redeemable for merit in WvW alone, then lock their function to WvW only. and Give something better suited for PvE in place for PvE guilds to use.

The commander function was designed for WvW, which is meant to be the pvevp endgame since there is nothing else to do. For pvp, people go sPvP and tPvP, for pve people go wvw and commander is useful there.
The way you acquire it is the only thing questionable. Why the richer should get it and not those who dedicated time to being proficient at WvW instead of a TP camper?
This is a shame. I would NEVER follow a random stranger with the Commander title right now because as far as I know, it is just another TP camper who likes attention and knows nothing about WvW. Unless of course they play 24/7, in which case is very possible to camp the TP 20h/day (thats the only way to be profitable there if you are not using a TP bot) and then go to WvW for 4 hours/day.
How about commanders get their guild crest as their symbol. Might be a little easier to pick which ones to follow if it is a well respected guild with well known crest.
I dont know about your servers, but on Gunnar’s Hold the commanders are leaders of guilds which donated money towards the books, no usage of gold selling or anything…

I’ve heard several people comment how their guild pooled their money together to get someone a Commander book.
yea its not hard for a guild to pool gold, even with a 20 member guild, 5g each…easily done. 200 members…50s each. :/
I don’t like pancakes, but do like Swedish Fruit Crêpes.
Sounds so good right now.
Know what I mean?
www.graystatemovie.com its coming if you like it or not.
I’ve never known why they made commanders show up as such outside of WvW. They should only be commanders and thus only show up on the map if they are actually in WvW.
Quite true, Sorry for speaking like that about commanders. I do know guilds had pooled a great deal of donations from their members to get theirs… I was mostly speaking to the rather incompetent ones that dont appear to have a guild at all that had been running around at that time. Sorry for the insinuation.

Personally I put all commanders on ignore. I can’t stand pretentious things.
Commanders can be useful outside of WvW as well, y’know. Especially now that new world events will be added to the game. Also, keep in mind that these so-called commanders are gamers just like any other of us and are therefor entitled to enjoy the game just as much as you are – In their own kind of way even.
So instead of complaining about people who have things to do in real life, or are trying to level their crafting/buying dyes/selling loot, etc. Try to get a collective of people to help donate in-game gold towards your own Commander status. Because yes, that’s how many managed to buy that fancy lil’ icon. Guild effort.
Don’t think the worst of people just because they have something that you don’t. If you were in their position and people were complaining about you, you wouldn’t feel comfortable about it either.
I personally like the idea about commander but the problem occur when a commander just lead you into suicide assaults and have no leadership what so ever should probably be another way to elect commanders.
