Also comes with a hitch and contradictory information?

We’ll expand all crafting professions to allow them to reach a new milestone: 500 points!

At 500, crafters will be able to craft ascended weapons and armor. Once you reach 500, a new tier of crafting materials will be available to you; this new tier of materials will be made by combining lower tier materials. This tier is time-constrained, so each item can only be made once per day in order to help give high-level crafters their own economy of items to build and sell that retain their value and rarity.

and then we get the hitch in the next paragraph:
Ascended weapons and armor will remain account-bound like other ascended gear.

So high-level crafters will get their own economy of items to build and sell but they can’t sell them because they’re all account bound?

So I guess the question is what are these items in the first paragraph referring to? the time-restricted crafting materials or the ascended items we’re creating with them?

If you reread the paragraph I am pretty sure you will see that the materials you will be making (the ones you combined the lower tiers together to get) will be what the high end craftsmen will be trading. Not the Weapon/Armor itself.

At least that is how it reads to me. It also seems that the materials can only be made once a day per each new material. This will create a false sense of rarity for them. Thus driving prices higher than the current T6 materials.

In my opinion, time gating things is a horrible philosophy to do with crafting or anything else for that matter. Instead of trying to create a false sense of rarity, just make the item rare and hard to get. They could do what made the Anet team famous and just make them cost 250 of whatever material it takes.

Crafting should always be open and able at all times; not only Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays (sarcasm yes, but you should get the point).

So for those looking at saving up matts in the bank for ascended armor you will also require around 30+ days to accumulate the other require mats that can be made only once per day.

Wow the cost of these things on the trading post will be huge as anyone selling them will have needed to reach level 500 first on top of probably 250ecto’s and 250powerful bloods to get 1 mat lol

I’m thinking its going to be something silly like that.

To tell you guys the truth I’ve kinda stooped playing GW2.. Anet is losing me!
After spending every day from the game launch trying to make a legendary and still not getting a pre curs i’m over it… im getting bored of GW2 and the living story just sux.. no new armor, crazy overpriced items that are made even rarer with each passing update.. no thank you.

An interview here explains that:

Those will plug back into the second half of the new crafting materials, sort of like Tier 7 or Tier 8 depending on how you look at it. This other half is a combination of lower tier materials all combined together to make a new material and they’re time limited so you can only make X amount of them per day on each character that you own. They’re tradable, so if you want to take your character up to max crafting and every day keep making more and more of these materials, it gives an economy to the high level crafters and keeps a value by limit the number that can be made each day

treadmill, of being in that obvious pattern of every time I catch up you are going to
put another carrot in front of me” – Mike O’Brien right before Ascended weapons
