So now that we've seen all the blog posts...
Hard to say, I have not used the feature patch. I would say wait until May 15th. Let the patch settle in with the player base.
I’d say wait for the patch before making conclusions
90% success (pretty much all of it) I like the idea of mega-server to help with low-pop, I like the trait changes, the dyes, wardrobe, changes to ascended and legendaries, etc…
10% flop (timers on world-bosses making it so it will be impossible to do most of the world bosses for working individuals) and waypoints always contested being always contested….and not showing temples that are clear until you arrive….this 10% is pretty major though to me so it almost makes the rest feel “Bleh” in comparison.
It’s almost going to feel like a new game.
I would have rather seen another way for people to get ascendeds for ALT’s….as well as somehow adding additional stats to existing ascended’s (being able to slowly upgrade it to near legendary status with stat-switching). It is just so kitten hard to equip ALT’s if you play with them as well as the multiple sets that I need on each ALT for doing different things. I really wish this had been addressed in this feature release.
I’d say it’s in most cases potential success, that in some cases may backfire and cause more problems than it solves.
As I have mentioned in other threads, except for the Megaserver, I’m looking forward to it.
I expect the new traits will give me some new goals to strive for on my main, and improve alt leveling experience.
New dye and wardrobe system will make it easier to have my characters look the way I want them to, and give me hours of fun unlocking all the possible armour pieces.
It’s only the megaserver that causes worry for me, due to the fact, that while it will make it easier for me to experience some of the content (for example events that only happens with enough people in the area), it may throw logs under server communities and rp.
So in short – I think will at the very least the update will bring some fresh air into the game.
I’m excited for it. Just got back to the game, and will liven up my play no-end.
Updated every Monday
Seeing as they most likely haven’t announced every single change they are going to make in the blog posts I would say wait.
But based on what we know, I would say success. They are after all adding stuff based on what people have demanded for quite some time.

In general, great patch, being as an introduction to something bigger.
Isn’t there supposed to be today a last blog part??
The last part was divised between 3 parts and we got so far yesterday and the day before only 2 parts ??
Page got actualisied, so it also doesn#t show anymore the third part, that was supposed to be unreveiled today …
Did they just stealth merge yesterday the blog Parts 2 and 3 together???
They meant to reveal the last two posts in two different days, but changed the dates and revealed them both on same day.
(puts tinfoil hat on) The last post is suspiciously short ad may be censored to remove the notions about Iluminati taking over the BLTC! BEWARE!

About 5am ArenaNet-time yesterday they changed the dates of when each part of the blog would be released. It was ‘announced’ in the sidebar showing the dates for each blog. No stealth, just changed. Parts 2 and 3 were shown to release on Apr. 3 instead of Apr. 3 (Part 2) and Apr. 4 (Part 3).
You can read about it in the big MetaServer thread. =)
Yeah, so they just showed us part 3 a day earlier yesterday…
So nothing will come today and I can stop waiting for nothing xD

This was a very wise move in my opinion given how barren the last blog post was and also considering the fact that it’s not even a part of the feature patch.
I am looking forward to of the new changes, and am optimistic.
1) PVP changes look awesome. I plan to start delving into sPVP now that there are meaningful rewards.
2) The wardrobe and dye changes are awesome! I cannot wait to actually start buying some dyes and playing dress up with my dudes.
3) Scheduled world events will be helpful, for me anyways. At least I will know when they are going on without using that dragon timer that always seems to be off.
On paper, they sound good, but I am going to wait until after they have been “in-play” for a month or so before I make a real determination of whether I think they’re a success or not.
I would say success overall but with a lot of minor moans about different aspects of it…
The Wardrobe, spvp tracks, account bound dyes, new rune sets, account wide wxp, 2 sigils in 2h, having loads of players on maps will all overall be really popular.
But there will be a lot of ‘minor’ issues with certain groups of players (including me) but no matter what they do, Anet can never make 100% of the playerbase happy.
I can’t follow the people who are amazed by this patch….
People where screaming for content and a more interesting fighting style away from zergs in general.
Delivered are more colors and a wardrobe.
How this is satisfying someone is way beyond me.
If this points on something bigger i am more concerned than amazed

I’m hoping we get some new content in the near future.
This game really needs it.
I’m pretty excited about everything. It brings a lot of quality of life features.
Plus unlocking traits takes me back to the exciting days of gw1.
I’m still secretly hoping they’re shipping in an extra weapon for all professions (except warrior as they currently have tons)
But based on what we know, I would say success. They are after all adding stuff based on what people have demanded for quite some time.
It’s debatable. We’re geting things we demanded, but in the “be careful what you wish for” sort of way. As someone metioned in one of other threads, if you complain about the cold, setting you on fire is not exactly what you had in mind as a solution.
I’d say that there is some good parts in it (account bound ascended/legendaries), lot of mixed ones (good things mixed with problematic ones) like dyes and traits, and one huge mess that is the megaserver system that is enough to offset all the rest even if they were all good. Without that last part i have already had mixed feelings about this patch. After the last explanations my doubts were dispelled, but not in a good way.
Remember, remember, 15th of November

It has been stated. This is just a feature patch and no content would be part of it. They wanted to separate it so when it is time for content it will be strictly content.

A feature patch is not the same as a content patch.
I’m not amazed by this patch, but it has some really interesting changes imo.

This feature update is actually why I started playing GW2 again. Well, and I finally remembered my password, but that’s a whole other story. :P
As for content, I’m sure there will be more content soon.
Also, ZudetGambeous, ESO is terrible. It may have plenty of new content, but it’s a less-than-subpar experience.
WildStar and ESO are both P2P. Believe it or not, you can play both games if you want, without breaking the bank!
I play EVE and GW2, myself. I know, unimaginable is it not?
Edit: Can’t believe Isn’t…. It is censored on this forum.

It does. It’s just a server merge under a different name.
When I have been working towards world completion like 1 year ago (or more) with my character. About 60-70% of territory I was “exploring” was plain empty, no living soul and that was in peak hours mostly. It’s rather wierd seeing such thing in game focused on world exploration (as it stated in GW2 description) rather than mindless grinding and endless instances like in other MMOs. From this perspective Megaserver update actually might be not a bad decision at all, but it also pointing out that devs acknowledge how game is slowly and painfully dying. And it’s going on like this for the long time already, with this new updates I just have seen proofs to my thoughts.
All my mates stopped playing this game year or 6 months ago and no one is returning back. It’s certainly not because of this “endgame content” which supposed to be endless instances farming that is stupidest thing in MMOs ever, but something else, I honestly don’t know what it is, but I cannot force myself to play this game anymore, clearly seeing that game itself doesn’t suffer from lack of content. I don’t know current and former GW2 population numbers, but it somehow feels like decreasing, even my enormously huge guild is much less active these days…
Have no idea what future for GW2 devs have in their minds. It’s clear those new updates won’t change much, seeing rage about breaking balance in every second post may even cause some outflow of playerbase.
What I personally would be glad to see in this game are some new classes (call it prestige classes if you like), the feature like GW1 had, something new. Of course it’s risky and would require loads of time to balance, but IMO it’s totally worth it. Extend specializations, completely new abilities, new perks, possibility to switch between your classes in combat if you wish like switching weapons… I would even buy this as DLC.

No, it’s a way to get rid of the word Overflow on the minimap that everyone started to hate despite having valid reasons or not.
On high population maps it’s gonna still work like an overflow, they’re just trying to get the negativity out of it.
It’s also a way to answer to the countless treads people made about “reverse overflows”.
Even on the lowest populated maps like Timberline Falls you still find people, last week I came across 6 players there while doing my daily gather, which for a map like that on that time window it’s pretty impressive.
Something like Gendara will more often than not throw me in overflow, and these days with the WvW new AP I get 150+ people queue for EB and 60+ for each BL.
Its good for normal PvE rewards. Otherwise there is no new guild missions, game modes or WvW improvements.

Server mergers – no growth. Anet has announced server mergers without actually using the term server mergers. Fanbois will leap on this and snarl, but it is the truth.
Anet needs to follow the successful gw1 model of releasing expansion packs that bring in revenue, bring in increased exposure through reviews in gaming magazines and websites, and bring in new players.
Anet recycling art for “living story” stuff does not bring in new players, or revenue.
So in other words. It’s put in place to fix the low population problem.

Don’t waste your time slinging mud at a game you don’t like (perhaps anymore), just enjoy yourself elsewhere. Life’s too short (unless you are on a “play the game I am playing now!” crusade, but that’s not allowed in the forums as far as I know; General GW2 discussion.)

Population plummeting might not be the right wording for it. I don’t think people are quiting GW2, but I do think they are just stacking on 1 server, like Blackgate and Desolation
I’m sorry, I don’t usually read game news, but any official link/s where I can read it?
—Nevermind, I found it. lol
You can’t usually tell how a patch will go till you play it. You can’t judge a book by it’s cover. I’ll reserve judgement until I see what it’s like playing the patch.

Because in-game I can’t see this “plummeting GW2 population” but the complete opposite.
The only thing one can comment on being a success or failure is the PR related content such as streams and blogs.
Did they properly convey their plans?
Did Anet address issues in the streams and blogs that active players are concerned with?
Those kinds of questions we can answer if they were a success or not. You, OP, nor anyone can answer if the patch when it comes to pass is a success or not until after it has been applied and sufficient time has been given to kitten all aspects of the patch.
I can judge one thing: they have not sufficiently addressed my concerns with the Ranger. The only thing the CDIs, Streams, and blogs have done is confirmed beyond a shadow of a doubt the Ranger will always be handicapped and I should either learn to love another class or play a different game.

I get the feeling that this is closer to the truth. Desolation and Blackgate are so insanely popular that it’s a guesting race to their servers when it’s time for a challenging event (I’m thinking of when the wurm was introduced, that’s where I experienced it personally). During LS events it was really packed on my server though, I almost always ended up in overflows!
The biggest plus point about the megaserver system, in my opinion, is that it is flexible and helps counter fluctuations that inevitably happen over the course of the day and the week. Events work nicely on weekends, especially evenings, on my server (Piken Square), but it’s pretty dead during the week or earlier hours.
Back on topic, I think that this feature pack could make the game a lot better, but I have to see it in action before I judge. I still don’t like the spread-thin fixed schedule and the contested waypoint system though. As for permanent content, I’m sure we’ll get that in the form of new areas and a new dragon with the next living story chapter. I’m glad they’re at least trying to fix the game before adding new, major stuff.

You don’t do server mergers on a growing game.
Here’s a hint. Take a look at what server names you see mentioned here on the forums. I suspect the only names you can know off the top of your head are as follows:
BG,TC,JQ,Deso, SoR, SoS, and maybe Piken Square due to the RP thread.
Now take a look at how many servers GW2 actually has open right now: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/World
That’s right there are 51 English speaking servers… you know why no one mentions them on the forums… because there is no one on most of them. over a dozen of the American servers don’t even know what an overflow is because even if you put every active player in one map it still wouldn’t make an overflow on their servers.

And most players on these forums don’t say what server they’re from. This doesn’t mean anything. Not to mention many people probably don’t even use this forum at all. If from 100 people on this forum, only 5 say they are from deso and the other 95 don’t say where they’re from, that doesn’t mean there are only people from deso on this forum.

Did you talk to many people in all those servers? Do you have screenshots of those conversations? Did you meassure the amount of people on those servers? Did you really investigate this claim or did you just assume this?
Not saying you are wrong though, you may very well be right. But we need some hard evidence first. Like for example actual (and accurate) population graphs.

Not like there is not a single growing MMO in the market excluding WoW but also, most of your comment are simliar to eachother for the past 2 months, making reading threads useless as you, together with 5 others are the only ones commenting.
The new WP system—game breaker—mutliple wps and travel and cost. I’ll try it when it goes live, but if it works like some have described—-it’s a major fail for me.
and of course—nothing for the Ranger again.

So TESO is dead before it’s alive, because it’s using a megaserver too.
And if I remember correctly even the juggernaut WoW has a system that allows players of low level zones to play on the same zone regardless of server. WoW must be dying too.
Also, if I’m not completely mistaken other MMORPGs are also using a megaserver approach too, they must be dying too.
So making sure no zones are empty means the game must be dying according to your strange logic, which is false.
Here is a hint: megaserver is not the same as server merges.
Here is another hint: megaserver doesn’t mean a game isn’t growing, it will be used to solve certain “problems”, that’s why it will apply on zones that generally have low population

Also, ZudetGambeous, ESO is terrible. It may have plenty of new content, but it’s a less-than-subpar experience.
WildStar and ESO are both P2P. Believe it or not, you can play both games if you want, without breaking the bank!
I play EVE and GW2, myself. I know, unimaginable is it not?Edit: Can’t believe Isn’t…. It is censored on this forum.
You may think that, but the plummeting GW2 population tells a different story.
Source?
Because in-game I can’t see this “plummeting GW2 population” but the complete opposite.

So TESO is dead before it’s alive, because it’s using a megaserver too.
And if I remember correctly even the juggernaut WoW has a system that allows players of low level zones to play on the same zone regardless of server. WoW must be dying too.
Also, if I’m not completely mistaken other MMORPGs are also using a megaserver approach too, they must be dying too.So making sure no zones are empty means the game must be dying according to your strange logic, which is false.
Here is a hint: megaserver is not the same as server merges.
Here is another hint: megaserver doesn’t mean a game isn’t growing, it will be used to solve certain “problems”, that’s why it will apply on zones that generally have low population
TESO launched with this feature so not really the same thing at all. However, the game is a cash grab. They have a full blown cash shop infrastructure already built into the game for when it flops and goes F2P. Everyone knows it is a cash grab game.
WoW is losing players. They had 13 million subscribers during cata and they are down to 8 million by the end of pandas. They needed to merge a crap ton of servers through their new and exciting “mega server” system since the lack of 5 million players was noticeable on the tons and tons of empty servers. So while the game isn’t dying it did lose almost 40% of it’s players, thus server mergers.
All games lose players over time, the only game in the history of games to get more players over multiple years was WoW. It was an extreme outlier. It is just part of the cycle. GW2 will find its niche players and go on for years, but that doesn’t mean the game is some super game that is constantly gaining players.
Its good for normal PvE rewards. Otherwise there is no new guild missions, game modes or WvW improvements.
Yes, because it’s a feature patch, not a content patch. Why are people finding this concept so difficult to understand?
As for the OP – It’s a stupid question. The patch has not yet gone live so it is neither a success or a failure.
If you consider it as an introduction only to something much bigger ( like expansion-worthy content ), then we could call ( what we know so far about the feature patch ) a success.
But only if there is something big and fresh out in the summer 2014.
