I really would love it if they made the tengu as a playable race, I really want to make a new character but nothing besides the charr really interests me.

This would make my yet conceived Guardian and Necro very happy as then they can finally be born

They wont be around anytime soon I think. Unfortunately.
With HoT not adding playable races, it seems it will be a long time before we will see it happen, if we will see it happen.

Again unfortunately, cause I would really, love them too. Especially since I from the start wanted only 1 of each race, which obviously means I wont be getting each profession… not that big a deal as I don’t really desire them much anyway, but still, could be neat if I could add them via new races

So I would really love this too, but think we will wait a long time… hopefully not forever.

Why would you want to be a bird person? It just seems unbelievably bland. Their crowning features seem to be high walls, rigorous adherence to trade agreements and possessing a beak. The bipedal polar-bears are more interesting them them – for wielding two handed hammers if nothing else.

The Largos are one of the more original races I’ve seen in a while. Aquatic butterfly race – and there is some sort of RL aquatic butterfly type fish as well. Who doesn’t want Mesmer butterfly assassin exploding into a cloud of butterflys?

I really want the Largos to be playable, especially if we get an expansion that focuses on underwater combat to fight the Deep Sea Dragon.

I’m going to ride on WoodenPotatoes’ idea to make racial specializations (core or elite, I don’t really care which) and make it available to every character. This would make it so that racial skills wouldn’t have to be inherently bad PvE only skills, and it would give new depth to any race that is added eventually.

Yeah, i really wish racial skills were a bit better. Although using a Sylvari’s Take Root in a small chokepoint is hilarious in WvW especially EotM.

i like the idea of racial’s being available to all race’s a bit like the old guild wars 1 system with sunspear and all the other faction based skills +1 from me Cecilia

What other MMO has bird people? There are cow races, wolf races (plenty!!!), demon races, hybrid races, cat races (omg!), lizard races, even mice, frogs insects, aliens and such. Now, how many bird races are there in an MMO? NOT MANY!

Well the Tengu we see in game are just placeholders. But if we got Tengu as a playable race, just google birds and see just the diversity in beaks and head shape. Beyond that, one thing I’d love beyond all else is if they get vibrant plumage options (see attached for Tengu concept art).

So beyond just head shape/beak shape, plumage and color, I think that’s plenty to customize and make them look unique from all other races.

What sucks is… everything is already in place for Tengu to be added.

They have a similar design to the Charr with their stances, tail, etc. so you would just recycle 99% of the armors and make new cultural armor. They’d also need new cultural weapons, but ArenaNet makes weapon skins all the time.

They already have reserved space for their main city next to Lion’s Arch, and their beginner’s map next to Caledon Forest. And due to ArenaNet’s rule of “six maps per texture set” they could just re-use the same texture set as Southsun Cove, spice it up a little and make that the final (high level) zone of the Tengu lands by having the Tengu fleeing to it from the Destroyers or something like that.

Merge Claw Island and the rest of the Sea of Sorrows into a few other maps too, just make them mostly underwater so it doesn’t seem out of place. It would also give us a good chance to be introduced to Bubbles, the water dragon.

There’s also another unused space near Timberline Falls, and between Rata Sum and The Grove (though this is currently occupied by a copy of Cursed Shore).

They should have done Kodan instead of Norn, either way I would love Kodan to be a playable race.

I just looked around and failed to find any references to playable bird races in MMOs. Go figure.

I will say though that the idea that the current Tengus are place holders is silly. If Tengus are released, expect the exact same body and a 20% variation of the jaw shape of their beak – with about 12 beak options available outside of black lion style kits.

If Tengus get released, they will come out with Primordius – who’s minions are overrunning their cities.

Oh yes, and I forgot to mention the last notable aspect of the Tengu. Primitive and unimaginative weaponry. Traders mainly have bows, a few skill challenges have swords and when molten alliance mooks attacked one of their gates during the Lions arch invasion, they were held off by a rain of tengu arrows -.-

Even the Tengu blacksmith, the only non-generic (not a trader or caravan guard) Tengu to appear thus far, had nothing interesting to say besides “I look forward to working together. With other blacksmiths”.
