So i bought 2 of the same ascended rings, the clestial version. Turns out, i can’t wear two of the same rings! So i just wasted THREE WEEKS (+) gathering laurels, FOR NO REASON AT ALL. Because the game doesn’t kiteen tell you that you can’t!!!!!!!!! This is so UNBELIEVABLY DUMB, it’s unreal. Now i’ve been playing for a long while, but i’ve usually mixed armor and gone hybrid.

This time i thought i’d go actual hybrid by going full cele on my engi, guess i was wrong ANET screws me by not giving ANY warning what so ever, and having NO option to get my laurels back, now if a mod/GM doesn’t answer me, as to why i can’t get my laurels back i’ll quit this game.

I will not accept me having spent a month of my time logging in EVERY single day, just to get screwed this way!!!

Get me my laurels back/give me the “defensive” ascended WvW ring. Or i will seriously quit this game, i know the comments from players will be “bye”.

But this is beyond stupid, i’ve played for more than 2 years, on and off. I’ve never bought the same ring twice, now i did, and i get kittenED, due to a stupid system, that doesn’t allow me to sell the ring back to the vendore to get laurels? God how LAME is that? It’s beyond kittened! Get me my kitten back, FAST. This is beyond dumb. Seriously!

Now. I usually pay actual money for gems, to buy outfits and stuff like that. Cause i can afford it, not that it should matter. I get money, but i don’t get 3 weeks of my time back! Now you people had better REFUND the laurels or i’m gone. Permanently.

Support has been known to let people swap rings when they have made the same mistake as you. You can contact support and see if they will help but I suggest you calm down a little first.

Anything with this descriptor needs to be more obvious about it. I don’t care if it’s in a larger font with animated rainbow letters. It’s needs a bigger warning than what the game offers currently as I also got burned by this when getting a second trinket.

Your first problem is buying rings with laurels when it is so much more cost effective to get them through fractals. Use laurels for the amulets and guild commendations for the accessories.

They are labeled as unique items so only one can be equipped. I do agree that this games has a serious lack of in game information. I’ve been playing since launch and I still need to rely on 3rd party websites to know what is what and where it is happening.

People who are newer to MMOs might not know that “Unique” means “can only equip one per character”. Seems common sense, but it’s such a small part of the gear text that people might not see it. (Same goes for precursor flavor text. …looking at you Storm.)

The good news is, OP can still give that ring to another character, since Ascended gear isn’t soulbound.

Long time problem. I learned about it before making the mistake myself, but there are enough people who do make the mistake that it needs to be clearer in game. Without a lot of MMORPG experience, “Unique” just sounds like another of those words they use to label gear tiers like “Rare”, “Masterwork”, “Epic”, and “Legendary”.

It’s a common enough mistake, support should sort you out. There’s really no good reason for them to be unique though. Would love to see this phased out in a future patch.

Back on topic. Yeah, OP, the game needs a better warning system than the current system in place.

Maybe submit a ticket? You might get lucky and get someone that will change the ring for you. It’s worth a shot.

Slackoth.2108, if support fails, you can try to make 1 of the ring infused, that way they will be different from each other and you’ll be able to equip both.

heres one for ya… bank expansion slots… I bought the 11 extra slot tokens from the gem store, and upon buying the 11th, the item description said “you have purchased the maximum Amount of these that you can use” and would not let me purchase another one. A month later, that description on that token disappeared, but still remained on the nodes I had bought and finishers I had gotten, and funny enough, on the inventory expansion tokens and collections expansion tokens as well. but it was gone for the bank tab expansion. So i thought to myself, hmm, maybe they are allowing you to expand further now. So like a newb, i tried to buy another one, and guess what? IT LET ME! I began to get excited and immediately tried to use it, only to find I had been hornswagled… I contacted Anet by email and told them of the problem, but got 0 response. Now Im out 800 gems, still holding a useless bank expansion slot token, and no way to settle it.

Did you contact support through the online support form or did you send it to some Anet email address? If you used the online form did you at least get the auto response email with a ticket number? If so, did you follow up at all? Did you post your ticket number for review in the sticky thread located in the support forum after you heard nothing back?

I sent them an email through the support option on the website. Never got a response at all. I did none of the other things you listed. In using the online support I submitted a request but never got a response from the listing.

I guess I could try again, but my point of the topic was, Anet had given me warning that I could not do something, but later removed that warning resulting in something unintentional happening. I never understood why the warning was still listed on every other limited use item available… except the bank tab expansion tokens. it is still showingthis way even today.

When a support ticket is submitted you almost immediately get an auto response email with a ticket number. So you may have missed it in your spam mail or something.

Also I am pretty sure I have seen people with your exact same problem get a gem refund so I would suggest you continue your efforts with support.

Yep. Happened to me and support sorted it out. I let them know about the missing warning as well but there must be some difficulty in fixing that issue.

I was just stating that there is a better way of getting rings. Laurels aren’t all that abundant and spending them on rings is a waste. If you want to gear up efficiently, fractals = rings, commendations=accessories, laurels=amulet.

I’ve done something similar in picking the wrong item from an ascended box or buying the wrong accessories. File a support ticket with Anet, explain what happened, and they’ll usually take care of it. Being hostile and threatening to quit and such won’t get you far with them though. Just be honest, courteous, and polite to them and things usually happen pretty quickly.

1. This is an old issue that will continue to happen to new players (and even old players that are just not aware of what “unique” actually means).
2. Support has been known to assist in fixing this in the past.
3. It needs to have a better warning (if only to lessen Support work).

Man… i been spending my laurels on recipes and t6 mats all this time… guess I should save a few and buy some new ammys hehehe.

This is true, because the game considers them to be two different items, thus the “unique” property won’t conflict.

However, it is an extra investment to upgrade them in this regard.

I do agree with the notion that the “unique” property must be more explicitly explained. You cannot simply put “unique” on an item and expect new players to know the exact implications of that.

Just file a ticket with support and hopefully they will help you out. I believe you have a very reasonable request to make of them.

Wow, you must be great at interaction with other people since this basic is unknown to you. I was trying to make OP better by saying that even if you play gw2 long it doesn’t mean you know everything you simply miss on some stuff, hence the mistakes.

I threw lot of ascended gearing because of that.

I dislike the tone of the original post, but as far as a warning goes I think they should consider it. They have warnings for in game mail that is not sent from Anet; they may want to consider adding a similar warning for Unique items.

I would like the option to sell items back to vendors for the same amount of currency spent. WoW does this and allows an hour to sell the items back. Not only will it help with issues like this, but it also allows us to try items out before fully committing to the purchase.

A few months ago I had an unfortunate accident in regards to choosing a duplicate ascended armor piece and support was able to help me out. It took awhile for them to reply, but when they did they completely fixed my problem.

Um if you want to equip two of the same ring, just infuse one of them. My thief packs two red rings of death. One is infused the other isn’t

Trust me: you will never make the same mistake twice.

They should put some warning because nobody knows what unique means.

That “Unique” modifier on ascended rings is a worthless gimmick anyway. The only thing significant is does is create pain in the poor users that got bitten by it.

There is no reason for those rings to be unique. It is the only place in the game where you have to pay attention to the tag Unique, and the only thing that it does is create a pointless newbie trap.

Unique may mean many things. They need to be more clear with things like this. I completely understand the op’s rage. I learned of this uniqueness by chance, with drops from fractals, but i would have been really kittened. If i had learnt the hard way.

I made the same mistake as the OP and bought two red rings of death. I was unaware that infusing one would allow me to wear both, but if that’s the case I’ll be a happy camper.

Only if you dont understand what the definition of the word “unique” is, and cant make the small leap of logic to the assumption that it means “I can only wear one of these at a time.”

That being said: OP, next time look at the list longer, and you’d have realized there’s TWO OF EVERY STAT SET (mostly) for all trinkets.

Except it’s also labeled with ASCENDED on the stuff. To be fair, the OP probably didnt even read that far down the description at any point before buying either ring. Or looked at the rest of the rings to notice a different ring with same stats.

I think you’re over reacting a little bit. Sure a whooping three weeks for a ring sounds devastating, but why rage when you can find other solutions? Infuse the ring and it is now a different ring, give to another character, play fractals for the rings, contact support- which you did

Don’t know something in the game? Such as Unique use the /wiki command and type /wiki Unique.

Lastly, quitting the game over spoiled milk is a sad excuse, take a deep breath and try looking at the problem created once more.
