Since ANet Bait and Switched us regarding keys, what the hell do I use these on? I can’t melt the rares, nor forge them, and I already bought 20 of each farming tool.

So, tell me Anet, what do I do? Just destroy them?

Id hang on to them for a while. With so much more contect due over next few months, maybe we’ll get something to use them for again ?

The only thing I can think of is gear up alts if you have any of the right level. You can also get exotics. Or buy the salvage kits.

Why would you use anything else?

You don’t get better returns with higher kits. The bump in % rare mat chance (whatever that means) doesn’t seem to actually do anything. I use crude unless I’m going for ecto or a I need a sigil (mystic/master for ecto, BLK for sigils/runes). I have also gotten ecto and ori with a crude kit. See, I don;t salvage anything. I just vendor anything lower than rare, so basic kits are useless to me.

The patch notes say that Lionguard Lyns will remain open (in her current form) until late February, and that we had better spend all our Captain’s Commendations before then.

Saving up sounds like a bad idea.

Ah, OK. I salvage for mats – sometimes the mats sell for more than the gear, or I can get more skillpoints out of crafting with the mats. If you don’t salvage than that’s obviously a wash.

It’s irritating that the weapons can’t be forged. I really don’t know what else you could do besides gearing alts or filling your bank with gathering tools. I’m just glad I only had a few commendations left over when they pulled the BLC keys, so I’m not out that much.

Yup, it looks like your options are basically to either buy a bunch more of the 250-use tools or toss the CCCs. Not what you wanted to hear, but that’s how it is.

Hardly a surprise.

Actually that percentage shows the chance of getting higher-tier materials. For instance — you salvage a mithril item, normally you’d get mithril, but if the percentage roll succeeds — you gain orichalcum.

I think the bait and switch the OP refers to is the one performed during Wintersday – where they said Lyns would be coming back afterwards and forgot to mention the removal of keys. Plenty of players who used her exclusively for keys continued to stockpile CCCs during that time, which they would not have done had the information been made available from the start.

Whilst yes they didn’t say at the time they removed Lyns, they did still tell us in good time.

A bait and switch would suggest they never told us about her reduced stock ahead of the patch. Which is just not true. We’ve had nearly a month to come to terms with it.

Cost-benefit analysis says the higher tier kits aren’t worth the money. Percentage isn’t high enough to make going from 15 salvages for 32c to 25 salvages for 1s+ worth it. I always just use crude or basic unless I want ectos or the sigil.

Fair enough, and I don’t have a problem with the ways they’ve handled the Lyns situation recently. But I did at the time, and still do, feel like the ANet posts on the subject during Wintersday were worded such as to be very misleading (apparent indication that she’d return immediately upon completion of the Wintersday event, failure to mention a major change).

Their apparent confirmation that everything would return to the previous norm, in other words, is problematic in that players who should have and would have changed their behavior weren’t given a chance to. But pointing it out now doesn’t really serve any purpose, I agree.

And I use basic kits — they have 25 uses vs 15 of crude kits.

I was just pointing out what the percentage means, or is meant to mean.

Buy the salvage kits and never buy another salvage kit ever again.

The Lionguard girl used to sell BLC keys, they removed them because it was much cheaper to convert gems→gold→forge→comms→Keys then it was to gems→keys

Harvesting tools still seem like the best bet to me, I mean you’ll always need them, so why not?

Running out of space probably. If he’s bought 20 of each kind than he’s probably really low on bank slots and/or bag space.

IDK, it may be time to let loose your inner explorer gatherer and run around getting all the mats you can find? That way at least you’ll use up the tools you have so you have room for more.

I had 25k commendations. Now every single character on my account has full exotic weapon sets, including stuff I’ll probably never use. I just made a level 1 necro and bought full exotic 80 weapon sets for him, everything I think he would use.

I still have about 5k commendations….
