Q:

inb4 anything this is not complain thread dont read if you dont like.
Been playing for about 3 weeks i bought game for about 50$ which i tought its cheap for mmo’.Saw reviews of game etc everyone saying good things and overhype the game next to imposible.
I started my war went trough quests etc reached 80 very fast and now i tought myself what to do.
Dungeon:Hard next to imposible need vgood teamwork so i managed to do a couple just to find out rewards are useless.
Dragons:as far as i know they spawn random in my 3 week play i havent seen any message or foudn any, so i have no idea where they are or if its even worth farming them.
PvP: funny very funny with large team conquer and stuff, but other than that pointless
Hint: i dont pvp for fame or for fun(fun goes away fast) it must have a purpose or reward.Yes pvp drops stuff mainly useless stuff imo.
Gear: pretty useless, this game is all about teamwork, its not a run for best gear game, best gear that has 5-10 more to stats than my current one(berserker draconic something) would be just as useless for pve/pvp/dungeon whatever.
Craft: exepensive and useless since gear doesnt really matter read above.
Farming: pointless i dont need the best gear read above.
Legendary weapon: useles??? other than looks my current wep that GS claymore is better cause of crit dmg vs useless for warr cond dmg.Expensive and useless doh.
Karma? useless again exotic gear for karma is pretty useless for warr already have 2 parts other than looks they are trash.
Skills are Ok pretty boring after a short time but if i have other goals they will do.

So here comes my question.
What else there is to do in GW2Or about what i said above maybe i missed somethingEveryone overhyped it and recommend it.So think of me as a newbie maybe theres something i didnt discover or that idont know yet about the game that makes it more fun.Im still interested in it i dont hate it, its just i fail to see what else except what i posted above there is to do!!Unless thats pretty much it the mighty GW2.

A:

I started my war went trough quests etc reached 80 very fast and now i tought myself what to do.

Since GW2 has level scaling rushing to 80 isn’t really a problem or much of a concern, you can still enjoy much of the low level content.

Dungeon:Hard next to imposible need vgood teamwork so i managed to do a couple just to find out rewards are useless.

Well GW2 isn’t really a gear grind (well much of one) in any case so the rewards are going to be disappointing if you come from a more conventional MMO background. What you can perhaps do is start looking for a slightly more serious guild to join, hopefully they’d be able to offer a few more worth while team members to help you out;

Dragons:as far as i know they spawn random in my 3 week play i havent seen any message or foudn any, so i have no idea where they are or if its even worth farming them.

Actually they spawn at fairly regular interval, in fact I’ve got a app on my phone that tracks their spawn times (although I’ve only used it a few times but it seems accurate enough). As for where they are: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Tequatl, http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Claw_of_Jormag, http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Shatterer.
But addressing the second part, no they are not worth grinding, this doesn’t mean they’re not fun and you should go do them, rather do them with the mindset of doing for funs sake and not for pretty loot.

Gear: pretty useless, this game is all about teamwork, its not a run for best gear game, best gear that has 5-10 more to stats than my current one(berserker draconic something) would be just as useless for pve/pvp/dungeon whatever.

Well yes, that was actually done by design, the idea was (originally, but that’s a bit debatable right now) to not have player get stuck on the gear treadmill, by offering items which provide an aesthetic difference and not much of a stat difference. Further the idea is in fact to focus on teamwork and skill of the player. For example in PVP simply having the best gear won’t automatically mean a win, and that’s a good thing.

Craft: exepensive and useless since gear doesnt really matter read above.
Farming: pointless i dont need the best gear read above.

Actually you get pretty nice gear from crafting, although if (like you) someone is heavily focused on the number then yes it would seem meaningless. However I found crafting to be a rather fun challenge and something to do for the sake of doing it.

Legendary weapon: useles??? other than looks my current wep that GS claymore is better cause of crit dmg vs useless for warr cond dmg.Expensive and useless doh.

Here again with have the issue of your focus on number. Legendaries aren’t suppose to be massively OP compared to all other gear, they’re hard to get and offer clear visible difference. Having a legendary is the reward.

Karma? useless again exotic gear for karma is pretty useless for warr already have 2 parts other than looks they are trash.

Well different areas do have different karma vendors and besides karma items are simply there to provide you with a few crafting mats and some intermediary items. Actually they also provide a couple of interesting skins, but you don’t seem like the type of person that would be interested in that.

So think of me as a newbie maybe theres something i didnt discover or that idont know yet about the game that makes it more fun.

Well you’re expectation of GW2 seems to be that it would be WoW2, but it’s not. So you’re expecting an experience which it can’t really give you. The best bet would perhaps be to focus more on experiencing and enjoying the game itself. Perhaps a mindshift is in order? However people in general don’t have much talent in changing how they think, so most likely GW2 isn’t going to give you what you want.

Still that doesn’t mean you should stop playing. Hopefully ANet will still regularly release content and you can still come back every now and then and play for a while until you get bored and then go play something else for a while until you feel like GW2 again or ANet releases more content. That’s the thing about B2P you’re not locked in with a monthly subscription. you don’t have to get your moneys worth since you’re not necessarily paying (beyond the initial box price) and you can always come back without hassle.

Honestly, if all you want is awesome loot and a gear grind, and from reading your comments, that seems to be the only enjoyment you get from a game, then this probably isn’t the game for you.

Unfortunately, you did what a lot of people, including myself, did and rushed to 80, probably skipping half the content on the way. While this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, I feel like you did this because you were expecting the game to somehow get better after lv80. Once again, this is the wrong game for that. The game was marketed as “endgame starts at lv1” and it has stuck to that quite well.

What I recommend to you is to re-roll an alt, and really take your time going through the game. Play the dungeons not for the loot, but because they’re fun and tell a story. Try and feel that Tyria is alive while you wade through enemies, hacking and slashing them to bits.

I urge you to try that, and if you’re still not feeling it, then that’s okay too. There is plenty of content updates on their way and since there’s no sub fee, ther’s no reason to feel like you should be rushing through content.

(Oh, and if you’re looking for a challenge, roll something other than a warrior. After maining a thief for 4 months, I feel like warrior is ez-mode for PvE)

Nesmee – Thief
[OHai] – Northern Shiverpeaks

Well that isn’t the case actually. It’s more like this, when you buy an mmo you expect it to last you at least a 10 months, mmos have huge time sinks and when someone really enjoys the game, the enjoyment normally lasts a few months to a year with a game that costs £50 like TOR or AION or WOW but with GW2 this long feeling this addiction to play the game lasts for a maximum of 2 to 3 months and then it just goes and you look back and release there is nothing to do or to work for that is of any value or importance.

Well that’s how I and all of my irl friends feel and probably how TC feels. I’ve never in my whole time off playing mmos have i played one for 2 months then quit through boredom or lack of content.

It’s really hard to answer a question like this since you are basically saying “I don’t enjoy pvp and I don’t see a point in pve, so what is there to do?” I enjoy trying to find an armor set that I like the look of and work towards that. Right now I am working towards the full Twilight Arbor set. If you are having a lot of trouble in dungeons at level 80, I would suggest buying a full set of the karma gear as having full exotics in a dungeon does help a lot as far as the difficulty goes.

The new fractal dungeons are a ton of fun, but harder than the regular dungeons, so you will have to coordinate more with your group. I’m not really sure if MMOs are for you if you don’t enjoy teamwork and coordination in dungeons, but if you are looking for solo things to do there are still plenty of those.

You could work on full map completion, do the world vs world pvp (just find a commander and stick with them to kind of learn about what is going on), do the monthly achievements, find all the jump puzzles around the world, join a guild and hang out with them… there are a lot of things to do in this game really, I’m sure other people will have more suggestions.

TLDR: I bought the game, picked the easiest class to play, b-lined it to 80 , dont like pvp, dont like dungeons, dont like pve, dont like exploring, dont like upgrading my gear, dont like putting forth effort to find out about dragon spawns so why am I not happy?

Is that a fair summary?

Thanks for reply’s guys maybe ill stick around try the elementalist as i already tried engineer and i have a lv 27 necro they are not for me.
@Rustypipes.
Since the game didnt introduce me to anything else than quests and dungeons thats what i did till 80,i like pvp its fun but fun goes away if no reward/goal and im too small to make a difference on my own im used to games where you build up and get strong and can make a difference yourself+teamwork(i just love that feels my hard work payed off) in anywhere boss/pve/dungeon/pvp but here not.
Dungeons are really challenging for the team but rewards nowhere near the challenge level.I like exploring but see no point in exploring more than i already did.I love upragding gear if its worth the effort for 5 stats more that dont make difference waste of time.

Maybe this game is not for me,i like to have tons of stuff to do always but stuff that will result in a better character/gear/skills etc. not in exporing more % of the map that wont do no good when dungeon bosses bash my head to the walls or so.
Tip: i always hated WoW game and games that copy it,dont asume right off im wow gamer.
Anyway thx.

This is so true. Video games are supposed to be fun. Play how you want that is the most fun to you. If you’re not having fun anymore, then it’s probably just time to move on and find something else that’s fun. There’s no point in forcing yourself to play something you don’t enjoy anymore. I’ve never understood how some people play the game like a job, grinding for gear and rewards. That has never appealed to me.

OP, as you mention, you enjoy games that employ the level up/get better RNG based gear/kill bigger monster/repeat model. I like those too, the best one I ever found was Diablo 2. However GW2 does not seem to work like that. The BIS gear is available by well defined tasks, like dungeon tokens, karma, and crafting. The autoleveling also produces an effect quite unlike some other RPG mechanics, a high level character is not drastically OP. You know, cast chain lightning and everything the room is dead. If you don’t enjoy playing for the lore and spontaneous cooperation in the PvE world then you have the wrong game. Or you can look it as buying a chess set and trying to bluff your opponent, the game mechanics just weren’t designed for it.

When will folks stop spouting rubbish about legendary weapons such as

“the reward is the reward”

which is basically ignoring the problem and the obvious answer entirely, legendary weapons are NOT worth the insanely bad grind to get. The lack of a reasonable gear goal makes them the only real thing that’s ya know “there to do” and even then people burn out cos of the rubbish way they’re obtained. Does that make them worth it because many wouldn’t be bothered with the insane pointless grind and lack of fun obtaining them thus they won’t be a commonly obtained goal?

Ha! Hahhahaha! xD

Just because something is so ridiculously anti-fun to get doesn’t mean it’s worth getting, that’s some weird hipster mentality you got goin there lol and by all means keep that attitude but don’t claim that it’s optimal or the best possible approach. Fact of the matter is the games lacking in the one aspect it was supposed to replace gear progression with… Aesthetics. Therefore the legendary weapons only BARELY stand out because the rest of the items are so darned bland xD

COF armor was quite nice, even if it was a bit “seen it before” a lot of the rest was just… yeah… bland

So yeah, to quote many a poster who claims “GW2 is da bestest evar”

What do you do now? You log out and you wait for an update, or grind the same old garbage as before… til you eventually get something for your troubles.

Irony…. xD
