Q:

Just realized I posted this for the first time in the wrong section; too many subforums x_x.

Anyways, tl;dr I got super stoked for GW2 on release, got to 80, felt like the game lacked longevity/variety. I’m huge on PvP, felt like it was lacking in some areas.

What’s changed since the beginning to improve GW2? I noticed its ranked pretty high on a particular MMO site still, i’m wondering if it’s worth giving it another looksies.

PVP hasnt changed, at all, like at allll, they added a map called spirit watch, nothing special, but thats it. dungeons/instances still look poorly thought-out and has no creativity. welllll thats about it, o and you can keep ur hopes up for the coming updates starting july 9th….maybe stuff will get A LOT, A LOT, A LOT better. who knows, lol maybe ill actually start playing again…..but then again theres a good chance that nothing good will happen.

I’ll keep waiting for Wildstar I guess.

nothing changed, bosses still drop nothing good,

Opinion, Shadow Behemoth was fixed to drop Final Rest. They also drop guaranteed rares, and have better loot tables than before.

instance/dungeon bosses still drop nothing good,

Opinion, however with your wording I’ll let it slide as their loot tables haven’t been adjusted.

epic armor still doesnt look good except for like 2 different sets….woohoo for variety, 2 sets wowww thats a lot.

Opinion.

PVP hasnt changed, at all, like at allll, they added a map called spirit watch, nothing special, but thats it.

Opinion, lots of balance patches have come in to change the sPvP meta, WvW has changed slightly, as well. WvW ranks, culling, EB JP a separate map, solo roamers have more of an impact than before, etc, etc.

dungeons/instances still look poorly thought-out and has no creativity.

No matter what people complain. AC was super easy and the best thing to farm on a daily basis. Was changed to be more of a challenge and everyone started whining that it’s not worth anyones time anymore.

Well, the good news is that they have new content coming every couple of weeks. No need to grind the same stuff over and over again, unless you’re farming for something long-term.

The bad news is that the new stuff doesn’t stay, so to get everything from it you have to grind on the new stuff. Some people don’t see it as a grind, but others (including myself) do. They also keep putting nice stuff into RNG boxes, so no amount of work or grinding will guarantee that you’ll ever get those rewards, even if you spend hundreds of dollars of RL cash on it.

As for PvP? I think there’s a few changes coming with the new patch next week. As I don’t PvP, I really can’t recall what they were or how big they are, but the information should be pretty easy to find on the main page.

Sarcasm, delivered with a

What’s changed since the beginning to improve GW2? I noticed its ranked pretty high on a particular MMO site still, i’m wondering if it’s worth giving it another looksies.

From all reports, PvP has improved significantly in the following areas: much better balance; more classes, more builds and more play styles viable; at least 1 new map; and even a new condition.

(Disclaimer: I’m a PvE and WvW’er myself. If WvW is anything to go by, small scale combat has definitely got better. The rest are things I’ve heard from others.)

p.s. You’d be better off asking this on the SPvP forum.

my answer: cool final rest (i guess)….rares are nothing to me…..sooo is SB the ONLY boss u ever fought/looted? lol wow

instance/dungeon bosses still drop nothing good,

Opinion, however with your wording I’ll let it slide as their loot tables haven’t been adjusted.

my answer: not an opinion….it feels like nothing good and u sell everything u loot to an NPC unless u have a need to keep those worthless items.

epic armor still doesnt look good except for like 2 different sets….woohoo for variety, 2 sets wowww thats a lot.

Opinion.

my answer: every played other games and seen their selection? yes its an opinion, but then again…….

PVP hasnt changed, at all, like at allll, they added a map called spirit watch, nothing special, but thats it.

Opinion, lots of balance patches have come in to change the sPvP meta, WvW has changed slightly, as well. WvW ranks, culling, EB JP a separate map, solo roamers have more of an impact than before, etc, etc.

my answer: nothing special, just regular updates to keep a game from being considered “dead”….very small small things, the only real change were custom arenas and well, u gotta pay and continue to pay for them…..when in reality its nothing special.

dungeons/instances still look poorly thought-out and has no creativity.

No matter what people complain. AC was super easy and the best thing to farm on a daily basis. Was changed to be more of a challenge and everyone started whining that it’s not worth anyones time anymore.

my answer: i been playing from start till i quit, idk if u noticed but ANET follows a pattern on all their updates and as always its nothing special.

who knows, lol maybe ill actually start playing again

Oh my, someone who isn’t playing is telling someone else who isn’t playing what is happening ingame! So reliable!

my answer: there has been nothing done to the game since i left except for dragon bash….AKA one of the content updates (for the living world) that only last for a short time and disappear forever and ever. people dont wana have a small limited time to play something…..ANET needs to stop adding things just to take them away….

one more thing, i did log on for d bash, but i only did it for 1 day…….didnt keep me any longer than 1 day….well less than 1 day.

…..any more brilliant things you want to say, so i can respond to them?

After dragon bash they did a major trait/game update in addition to adding even more content. Not only does the major trait/game update affect PvP, WvW and PvE, but the new content includes a dungeon which forces most players to change the meta of how THEY play the game.

Aka, you can still run Zerker, but it actually leaves you vulnerable, meaning that if you do choose to run Zerker, you’re ACTUALLY sacrificing defense for offense. At least, in that dungeon alone.

i know about everything u said except for the dungeon….cool i guess? anyways good to kno the pvp thing u said can easily fall into wat i said, “keep the game from being considered dead”…….so back to square 1….ZERO for PVP. now the dungeon, so in the end u can still zerk mindlessly? wow amazing…..you pretty much said that GW2 is slowly trying to move away from what they did before…….really really really slowly, ya sorry, but that impresses no1 in the MMO market, and much less a serious MMO player…..u kno those players? yk the ones that make games very very successful in the long run? ever heard of them?

sorry for the sarcasm, but till now the only thing that was sounding pretty cool was the dungeon, but then you said “u can still zerk it”.

Ummmmmm. If you dont like or play the game then I dont understand why you are wasting time on the forums… It sounds like you have given up. And they added plenty before the dragon bash and they are adding new things every few weeks… but it has not been permanent but they have openly stated that they are trying to go away from that and move one to more permanent new content. To be fair they are honestly experimenting right now. seeing what works and what doesnt work.

To be honest at this point if you didnt like it the first time around then I dont think you will like it anymore now. Personally i get plenty of enjoyment out of it BUT if I got bored I would gladly stop. Considering I dont have to pay a subscription and can return at any time if I wish. And maybe an expansion that they add will be more your style. More power to you. But to say that Anet have been sitting on their bums and not giving us anything is just wrong because they are putting out content… Maybe not as fast as everyone wishes… Maybe its not all great but hey. They are at least trying. at least a little

Considering he was the only one that replied, I didn’t have much else to go off of. Not that I was going to take it at that and stop checking for other feedback.

Basically what i’m interested in is more to work towards then skins and stuff. I know GW2 initially had the no end-game mindset, I was curious as to whether or not that’s changed.

I liked sPvP, but it was just too repetitive. It was fun, but repetition makes it lose the fun if I don’t have something to work towards, other then the random different graphic pvp items you got from the boxes.
Last I played though, they hadn’t implemented the teams/ranked pvp, which intrigues me.

Anyways, no need to start a flamefest. I really could care less which of you know more about GW2 or who is more qualified… I didn’t ask for opinions, no offense. I’m wanting to know if there’s more to work towards and entertain me then there was the first few months after the game launched.

Well if that’s what you’re looking for then no, there hasn’t been any improvement and likely never will be. Sorry but that’s just the way they’ve designed the game, mechanical progression is minor compared to aesthetic progression in PvE, and completely non-existent in PvP. Being on an even playing field in PvP at all times was one of the games biggest selling points and there is no way they’re going to change it.

However, if you like and consider WvW as PvP, then yes they have actually added a really nice progression system to it, as well as achievements and new armors and WvW specific daily categories, and they have improved on these progression systems regularly since their release.

Additionally they have made some huge optimizations to help the large scale battles that take place there, and removed some of the more imbalanced scoring and buffing options, as well as improved the match-making system to vary the matchups a lot more than they used to be.

And, since I don’t know how long you have been gone, they locked down the server transfer system months ago so that people wouldn’t swing to the winning side in WvW. That probably helped more than anything.

I feel as though they didn’t add enough to really bring you BACK. until an expansion or a crazy overhaul comes out. I dunno something nuts… I dont think its going to change your mind too much. nothing revolutionary especially in the pvp aspect. still pretty much the same. anything they add relates to the pve content. but I think with the new bazaar thing there is something pvp new with it at least. If I were you I would probably just wait for an expansion. stay posted until mid-late july. I think that when they will give you a let know of the next 6 months.

anything other than a huge zerk in WvW = a waste of time, u will get mindlessly owned by zerks.

SPVP = the same playing type over and over, no flag capture, no cool creative stuff…..ehhhhh i love the mechanics of PVP and the updates on balancing…..they should add a gooooood map every month since they refuse to add GvG and other PVP types, but o well…..its pointless to expect anything like that…..maybe in the future when they stop making money.

@Conncept, just stop responding to Adry. He’s a troll, and if he’s not trolling, then his level of intelligence is not worthy of your time.

Back on topic, read what Conncept said in regards to the state of the game.

Sure, there aren’t many more “endgame” things to do, because the endgame in GW2 is what you want it to be. I guess a good way of looking at it is it’s a pseudo-RP endgame setting.

I’m in the same situation as the Poster. I ‘Recovered’ my account last week (mostly from frequent phishing attempts…that disappeared as soon as I logged in).

I have not played in almost 6 months.

While there’s a lot of BS to be found in public forums- the gist of it all isn’t encouraging.

How about some general questions

1. Is the Gear Grind better or worse at level 80? (Possible to be accepted in groups- even accomplished groups with just exotics or is Ascended gear plus required?!)

2. Does Wv3 still scale <80 folks to a point they can be competitive

3. Are precursors still total RNG?

If 2/3 of these are negative in any way… nothing as changed since I left.

Well?

In response to Dhar.

  • Gear grind is a joke in GW2. BiS (best in slot) has never been something hard to obtain in the Guild Wars universe, and in GW2 it’s the same. Even with all these new, daunting Ascended items, it’s still easy (albeit time-consuming) and nobody really cares if you’re running exotics instead of Ascendeds(1).
  • Yes. Although you’re missing traits and skills, but if you zerg it’s not too bad.
  • No. You can opt to buy them with gold which does not involve RNG at all.

Answer to your final question:
Technically, all 3 of them are both positive and negative since you have left. Regardless, you should try the game since you’ve left instead of relying on the forum (which is a small minority of players, mostly naysayers) to decide for you. If you’re incapable of that, then I’m glad that you’re not going to play the game.

Ascended(1): The difference between Ascended and Exotics is 10% difference. This 10% stat difference is 10% stat difference when comparing both items to a white item of the same level (80, because all Ascendeds are level 80), the actual stat difference between an Ascended and an Exotic is a 6% stat difference, meaning that you’re only really going for 1-3 stat point difference.

PvP has changed a lot, but its rewards are still kinda flawed (may change 9th July) and it’s still capture the nodes + secondary objective based on maps.

2 new maps have been released, and a third one is coming out on the 9th of July. Spectator mode and custom arenas (private servers with different variables you can change) have been released, and leaderboards are now available. Matchmaking is out too, but it needs to be refined. Balance has overall improved.

@ Dhar : You always had the option to buy precursor from the TP and almost no RNG is involved elsewhere in making a legendary. Quitting over gear grind is laughable at best in an MMO where you can have BIS gear 10 days after reaching level 80. I don’t know what you mean by “accomplished” groups but certain speed-runners may require you to wear ascended items, but 90% of the playerbase won’t care.

P.S. Esplen I’m pondering quoting this “Oh my, someone who isn’t playing is telling someone else who isn’t playing what is happening ingame! So reliable!” in my signature… epic win!

“We have no first-person view because stupid people would lock into it”
“You can’t have more than 10 HS decks because that would confuse people”
“30 fps is more cinematic”
