So, who tried to manipulate the market?
Is that what happened? To me it looks like 2 were for sale at 3/8 at 10PM. Then one sold leaving the other one for sale. Then at 7PM 3/9 another was put on sale for a cheaper price.
ANet may give it to you.

Well, the supply dropped from 9 to 1 in a few days, so I’d imagine that is what happened. Not entirely sure, however.
You also have to remember there is no more incoming to the game. There is only what extra ones that are in people’s inventory at the moment. Any sold and used is a permanent reduction in supply.
I don’t think there is any real profit in flipping at such a low increase in price from 1500 to 1995 gold. Not when you factor in the 15% tax and the very real chance of getting undercut. There is also the problem of having so much of your gold tied up while waiting for it to sell. The real gold lies in rapidly flipping large volumes of low priced items, not putting all your gold in one basket and flipping high priced items that might take weeks to sell.
ANet may give it to you.
This is happening with superior sigil of Impact too, now is the time to invest in a few

While I had the same doubts you do, someone with a lot of gold (long time flipper can easily have tens of thousands of gold) could completely dominate markets such as this and there’s not a lot of competition either (because there are no more coming in). In long term, this can easily be 20%+ profit per, which is what a flipper would be aiming for.
I find it easier to believe someone tried manipulating than that 8 of these sold in a matter of week – it’s a scythe skin for ~1.5kG(I’d imagine no other class than necro would want it really and considering necro’s popularity at the moment…).
As someone with tens of thousands of gold, i can assure you that this rarely happens.
If you were smart enough to make tens of thousands of gold on the TP, you would know that trying to manipulate this skin for example has a very high risk and not a good profit range. A couple of hundred gold profit per item might sound alot to you but considering the investment costs, you make less than 30% profit. There are other items which might have a lower value but a higher turnover at higher profit margins that will net you more gold over time.
I think the Scythe Skins available on the TP were bought out by different players, which plan to use them for their Revenant, especially, if it comes out as a melee weapon instead of ranged. I bought one for myself as well.
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
The ranger is getting a staff and possibly the Revenant, so that is at least one more profession with players who could want such a skin, possibly 2. These players could be buying in anticipation of the new expansion. It’s what I did with my necro. I bought a Greatsword skin ahead of time for her and I’m holding a staff skin in hopes the Revenant will get a staff.
Go back to my link and hit all. Then go along the graph lines looking at supply and prices. Even when supply doesn’t change, the price often changes showing that some are being sold in between the data point sampling. Doing that shows this item has been selling at a steady pace all along with new ones put in to replace those sold.

This is happening with superior sigil of Impact too, now is the time to invest in a few
Its not manipulation, its speculation.
This Sigil has been overproduced, meaning people crafted it in order to gain the discovery exp to level their artificer cheaply from 450-500. It costs about 1.2g to craft, so its cheaper than discovering an exotic weapon.
That resulted in an oversupply of this sigil because it wasnt popular, so its listed way under crafting value.
With the upcoming changes to stability, someone thought that it might be useful in wvw and bought out 3 stacks.

Fair enough, that makes sense and you clearly know more about the market than I do.

I think the class specialization have something to do with it. Some people either bought it up to flip or use it for themselve.
I don’t think the flippers matters. If the price is cheap, regular player just buy them up to use and in the end there is no supply anyway.
and what about hard leather things? there were 0 buy orders for months and suddenly a few days ago over a 1mill 128k buy orders at the cheepest price showed up?
Currently it cant really be flipped as:
1) nobody is buying those things…
2) They are buy ordering for 9-10 copper and selling for what? 10-11?
However if it becomes anything like silk scrap…well…i better expand my guild bank with leather
Eddit: Thick leather section not hard leather.

I’d also like to point out that In the past week there have been quite a few player’s Characters running around sporting the black wings and the Scythe (including myself).
Admittedly, it is a look which is both cheese and classic ‘Dark angel’ – include the halo from the LA event for maximum cheese.
I also think people are looking ahead to Revenant and hoping that staff will be part of the allowable weapons.

GW2 on sales might have something to do with it. People are buying new account so they have more storage to use.
I think Anet also made some change a few month ago to vendor value item. So that might also have something to do with it.

I thought this was going to be about Recipe: Sweet and Spicy Butternut Squash Soup
A recipe I listed 6 months ago at 99 gold 99 silver just sold over the weekend. Somebody is trying to manipulate that market too.
Probably not market manipulation, but the Halloween raffle 2014 supply is starting to run out. Glad I bought mine for like 600g right after the raffle.

Felt sad no one bother with Plate of Frostgorge Clams. But I suppose no one use toughness/power compare to power/ferocity.
Just like I bought some shadow of grenth while wings of dwayna is the one that go up in price.
I guess how useful the item is make big difference.
As I usually say, I’ve always believe items should be introduced into the game and stay available to everyone at any day of the week. There can be special hoops to jump through to obtaining the items but, there should be some avenue to getting it. This would curtail any capacity to “corner” a market. Also, items should be available to new players. Especially when they’ve been putting the game on deep discount to bring in a lot of new players.

Too bad there is no content in the game difficult enough to keep an item exclusive if its available permanently. Only extremly rare drops (even more rare than precursors) could achieve that in GW2. Or extremly time consuming such as getting 36k AP (oh wait we have rewards for that already)
