So why is WvW so boring, what am I missing?
I’ve been entering WvW and I never see anything going on. I see a battle on the map, spend 10 minutes running there and its gone. No one in sight. There is another one, run for 10min, nada.
None of the waypoins work because they are contested. So I run to one. No one around.
What gives…
I’ve never really been much of a pvper but being bored stiff with Wow’s expac, and now LOTRO’s expac I thought I’d give this game a try.. the PVE is boring the hell out of me so where is the PVP?
I’ve spent 2 nights during peak checking out WvW and its been a yawnfest.
WPvP is hit and miss just like any game, First you want to make sure you on a server that is highly activive in WPvP but even then one one side is getting crushed they will stop showing up at times.
first of all, you tend to exaggerate or you just need a new watch – 10 minutes is certainly not needed to cross the map, not anyway near it.
Now to your justified complaint: I think the WvW is just readjusting after it had been heavily damaged by people switching to winning servers while serverswitching was very easy. Hopefully WvW will heal now that there is a 7 day limit.
Join an active WvW guild and you will have A LOT of fun. Some of my best moments are fighting along with guild mates to take keeps. Otherwise you will just run around without coordination
So how do I tell what is an “active” server..
Also is it setup so that one realm is always against another realm and it never changes or what?
I’ve also seen people use the map chat function to ask where the action is and where help is needed. They get an answer most of the time. This is on a tier 7 server, so population is intermittent.
Doing what I can for DB during EU primetime
Well as far as not finding people, whenever I pop into WPVP, I say something along the lines of, “Hello. Where do you need me?” And then someone normally points me to where they need some help.
It’s also possible your server isn’t too active, though, which I’m sure someone has said above me.

The WvW sub forum would be a good place to start.
WvW is fun, only if you want to get involved and make it fun because if you just hop in to see what’s up, wander for a bit, get killed, then leave, yea I can see it being boring.
But if you put the effort to gather allies and give yourself an objective, it gets super fun, like I can stay in Wvw all day.
then again, it’s also a matter of taste, if you don’t like pvp that much then you might not like WvW.

^This is why I can not get into WvW.
1. Find out if the server you are on has a wvw voice server. Join it.
2. Advertise in wvw for a group, say you are looking for a wvw guild.
3. Identify good commanders or leaders and follow thier instructions.
4. look at the map. Think about the map. Think about what your opponant’s next objective might be. Go there.
5. Watch the contested supply camps. Watch the score tally timer. At about 5 minutes till score talley, beat feet to a supply camp held by your realm.
6. Escort dolyaks.
7. If your realm flips a tower, head there, set up siege and wait a few minutes. Newly flipped towers are ripe fruit for any opposing zerg.
- is the most important, and will tell you everything you need to know about where to be. Map feigning is a game within a game in wvw, and the most successful realms are the ones who play that game most effectivly.

I think WvWvW is a nice concept but basically will fail/die out as people start playing the game more casually.
Also, not having Mounts really makes WvWvW almost not worth doing. Maps are too big and having to run everywhere is just too time consuming.
Overall, I think WvWvW is pretty much a failure. I hope Arenanet sticks to PvE and some sPvP and Arenas for the future.
Stick with the smaller BGs…much more fun.

WvW is fine, but going solo is a bad idea, join a guild and go with them, also if WvW isn’t your cup of tea, go to sPvP

The queue times to get into WvW say otherwise. Granted, you do not care for the current incarnation of WvW, but that doesn’t mean Anet should exclusively focus on gameplay YOU find more satisfying. I think it’s good they are providing choice.
Until they fix the draw in problems, who cares at all? What’s not fun is seeing no one in front of you then you start getting hit by people, but there are actually about 50 there. You just didn’t see them….yet. Lame. DOAC did it better. Never encountered this issue in WOW even when there were 100 players…maybe the frame rate dropped, but you saw them. My frame rate drops and It takes a minute for the to appear. Wvw just isn’t ready yet.

well wow on highest setting is still worse graphic than gw2 on absolute lowest, so kinda unfair to compare like that
OP I would have to say your missing the same thing I was. I tried to go in solo to see what it was like. Grouped up with randoms that were chaotic at best. Found some teams every now and again that had good back and forth battles. Was getting frustrated until I looked into the guild recruitment areas and found a WvW guild that was raved about. They have more then deserved their reputation. The guild is awesome, well coordinated and I have witnessed a deeper tactical aspect of WvW I would have not noticed.
Truly find a WvW guild on your server…. see how they operate. A good one will put so much fun into it, even in the times you may get out numbered on the map.
I came from the other popular MMO and quit arena’s due to getting out programmed (read: macro strings) and not having the play time to keep up with the gear treadmill. Got really disgusted to find that all the tier that I grabbed for that season…. got knocked to the lowest stat setting for the new season….

Quality matters not. I just care about characters on screen and besides, back in 05, I was using pretty inferior hardware. I can play Skyrim cranked to the max and retain +30fps now. GW2 is beautiful, but if I can’t see who I’m fighting no matter what settings I lower them to, who cares what it looks like? I beg to differ on GW2 on lowest quality though. It looks horrible, because of the style. It doesn’t hold up once your reduce the texture settings and antialiasing, ect. WOW’s “look” scales better and it certainly isn’t bad. It would be like saying claymation looks bad compared to ToyStory3. WOW works because the style is unique and fits.
I always go straight to the jumping puzzles. There are ALWAYS players trying to pick fights.
