Here’s a post I was about to post in suggestions but i’d like some feedback from everyone else. Why or why not is this a good idea? Some way to craft a precursor, without having to grind so hard for money.

So for many people, the biggest issue with making a Legendary is the precursor. The drop is extremely low, and the price for 1 is insane. I have a solution for this so hopefully this works out:

Precursor example: Dawn

1 “Gift of War”
[1 Gift of Metal, 1 Gift of Might, 1 Gift of Battle, 1 Bloodstone Shard]

1 Gift of Ascalon
[500 AC Tokens]

1 Gift of Battle

250 Obsidian Shards or 250 Globs of Ectoplasm

You know.. something along those lines… This could cut off a lot of Grinding which “you” said we wouldn’t have to do much off.

The Gift of Ascalon can be replaced for certain Precursors with other dungeon Gifts. And also you could replace “Gift of War” with another gift or replace it with a certain weapon.

A Legendary is something we work hard for, I understand. But with precursor drops at such a low rate? How is that even possible to pick up without grinding for constant money. “You” told us we wouldn’t have to “grind” for everything, so I’m hoping we don’t have to grind so much soon so we can get our Legendaries as we play and enjoy the game

We still plan to do both new legendary weapons, as well as a clear path (on top of the current random chance) to gain precursors which players can see their progress and understand how much work they have left to do to gain it.

It’s highly likely the precursor concept will involve playing varied different content all over the game to gather numerous content specific materials that are combined together to make a precursor.

We do also want to maintain that chance you could get lucky and earn one earlier through random drops, so when we add the new system we will not remove the current one to ensure players have multiple ways to gain the items. Also with the upcoming update to WvW, there will be a chance players can earn precursors from the WvW rank reward chests as well.

If Anet decided to make an alternative path to reaching a legendary, I would play GW2 again. But after dumping about a thousand gold into the Mystic forge, I got nothing even worth my time. A legendary shouldn’t be something we simply “Loot” out of pure luck. That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard of in any mmorpg. I gave up on getting a legendary a long, long time ago, and I’ve been playing other games ever since. It’s been the happiest month of my life playing WoW and not worrying about throwing away all my gold for a “chance” at a legendary weapon. Instead, I go to a dungeon, run it a couple times and loot it, which I can’t do in GW2.

See I know a lot of people who have dumped tons of money in the forge for the chance for it and they come out with no luck. I’m not saying increase the drop rate. I’m trying to find another way to obtain the item. Crafting seems neat. I WvW almost every day. I do all world bosses every day, I toss rares and exotics in the forge. and for almost a year now (I have played since Launch) I have not come across the Pre cursor I need.

The only solution I see is constant grinding… and you should already know what we’ve been told about grinding. Added to that, everyone hates it because it’s boring.

Here is another idea…

We work hard to craft the gifts for the legendary… why not work to craft gifts for a precursor. Or.. We create the Legendary, why not add “LEGEND” behind the “LEGENDary”?

So for example we could have to fight certain bosses, venture across lands and run instances that tell a story behind it all. This way, when you finally achieve your Legendary, you have a story behind it, you made choices and sacrifices to get it, you gathered all the necessary materials to create it, and you can stand before your peers and have them bask before your glorious achievement!!!!

Sorry I got carried away.

It’s just a guess but I think they wanted making a legendary to involve every aspect of the game.

So you craft some of the Gifts, you get some from map completion, WvW and various other tasks/modes and then you get the precursor from RNG. I’m not sure what the scavenger hunt will involve but I doubt it will be just crafting it because that’s already a big part of making a legendary.
