I know that there was a guild vs guild in original gw but I don’t see any specific guild related pvp but just fighting against other servers (WvW). What’s the point of being this game called GuildWars 2? Just because it is the sequel?

In fact, the title has no longer to do anything with the game.
People will tell you about the guild wars and you should read the lore, but honestly, this is so unimportant for this game that the title just implies that this is a sequel to a game called Guild Wars for whatever reason.

Pretty much this. GW2’s lore revolves around dragons and any other kind of content but guild vs. guild. This has long gone, and OP is correct, no actual GvG mechanic so far.

Maybe now “Guild Wars” means “Guilds-that-go-to-War-against-other-stuff-just-not-other-guilds-like-the-first-game”? Not sure what happens if you aren’t in a guild. So, maybe it means:

“People-who-may-or-may-not-be-in-Guilds-who-go-to-War-against-other-stuff-just-not-other-people-in-other-guilds-like-the-first-game-unless-they-PvP-but-then-again-they-could-be-PvPing-against-people-in-their-own-Guild-so-we’re-not-really-sure-what-to-call-it”

But I don’t think that would fit on a box.

In fact, we have more actual guild wars in this game than we ever had in Guild Wars 1.

Seriously……its shameful that there is like just one Guild in the game which is ‘known’ on account of its triple wurm exploits……while the rest seem to exist purely for that ‘once’ a week Guild ‘Mission’ runs which most seem to do only for the commendations and not for being with their guildies. Am not saying all guilds are fail. Some of our big guilds here in JQ do have guild events and stuff but Am sure many guild leaders out there face a tough challenge to get guild members together for some guild fun. To top it all mega server came in…………There is 0 drama ingame…….the game is all sooo ‘casual’. Even wvw is soo boring now a days…..Can sense a lack of purpose there. Need some guild vs guild stuff for some excitement……Some times forums seem to have more excitement than the game itself

Best I can recollect the story has always been that the game was not named for the guild vs guild feature; the name, it seems, is a reference to past occurrences which I suppose had brought the world of Tyria to the state it in which it was in at the beginning of the first campaign.

Even so, as a name, and in spite of the undeniable ‘catchiness’ of it, it has never made much sense. It’s kinda like if the people who made The Beverly Hillbillies TV show had named the show after the people who lived in the Clampett’s mansion before the Clampetts moved in.

I am not, of course, a game developer and know little of their ways, so there may be some dev-ine logic to the choice of this particular name to which I am not privy.

The table is a fable.

Guild Wars 1 dealt with the AFTERMATH of the guild wars. When Abaddon gave magic to the world, the guilds began to war among each other. So a large portion was returned and shattered through the Bloodstones.
Guild Wars 1 takes place decades, if not centuries after the last guild war. The reason the game is called guild wars is because most of the events are a direct or indirect result of the chaos the guild wars caused. The first time magic was released into the world, it was used in utter and pure chaos. The magic we have now is but a slimmer of what Abaddon broke free for us.

It’s like asking how there can be a Final Fantasy 2 when the first one was supposed to be the FINAL fantasy. It’s a series name. Things change.

No business in their right mind would change the name of an IP just because the IP has shifted directions. There’s too much money involved in building a name to suddenly change names.

There was a small grind in getting armor/weapons so you could infuse them. I found it to be not that much of an issue but I’ve played RPG’s for a long time so most grinds don’t bother me.

There was a grind in Cantha with quests. I believe there were over a dozen that that were done in the bazaar that had you walking all over the place. Luckily most of the map didn’t have enemies unless you completed the one quest in the SE corner that gave you the “perma” debuff. As you left Yak’s Bend, there was an NPC at the NW zone portal that gave you three quests that essentially had you clear out part of the next zone to complete.

GW2 has relatively minimal grind compared to other games.

That’s only if your character was created in that campaign. If you came from prophecies then you didn’t need to farm ranks.

While it appears to be true for Nightfall (was such a long time since I played that campaign so checked the wiki) in Factions you are still required to get the 10 000 faction points in order to pass Befriending the X quests even if you were not part of that campaign originally.

Doesn’t however change the fact that it is required grind that forces you to go out of the standard “do a couple of quests to move on” thingy. Sure you can get it by doing quests (some of them multiple times, since doing every quest once does not give you enough in the case of the Luxons at least), but it would still require a bit of grind. More so than anything in Guild Wars 2 when it comes to the main storyline.

Accumulating 10k faction for that quest was stupidly easy. You could do it any number of ways, like completing normal quests in each respective region. It was designed to be completed nominally through normal gameplay.

It gives you 8,500 Luxon faction. The remaining 1,500 you can get under an hour just by strolling through an explorable area with a blessing killing stuff. Please don’t try and claim the GW storyline was grindy, that’s just silly. The titles, skins, and rep points were grindy, but not the basic storyline.

if people are looking for group vs group fights , we have wvw now for server vs server, in cantha (Guild Wars: Factions) in gw1 you could fight anyone not representing the same house (Luxon/Kurzick) in a pvp setting in pvE… no such thing were in the other 2 main releases or the expansion in gw1, if I’m right

And through lore well it was about the history as written above somewhere.

For some reason I am not sure if wasting weeks in farming ressources (some of them bound to your account) combined with time gated crafting just to get BiS items doesn’t count as horrible grind. Especially if something is gated behind the gear like fractals.

You could say you don’t need the stuff, but one could also say, you don’t need to play the game at all. Always thought this argument was stupid.

In the end, this is a different discussion, and GW2 is just what it is, a sequel slightly connected to GW.

The HUGE difference being title grinding was not RNG like 90% grinding in GW2 is and with the double faction buffs it was so ez to max these titles… stop grasping at straws

The titles didn’t give the skills, just small buffs to them.

gw1 had some insane grind for titles, and rep was pretty heavy, but most of those skills were completely OP with half max rep. But for the main plotline, i cant see calling it grind.
