For instance, more people watched the last League of Legends world finals online than watched the American Superbowl.

If you read the articles, they say more people streamed the LoL finals than streamed the superbowl. Which is a very misleading comparison considering the superbowl is on free TV.

Yeah, and sports fans don’t stream on a pc, they want their HD sports channels on their 60in tvs.

I’ve never heard of this guy so it makes no difference to me.

To survive this world you must be mad as a hatter. Luckily for me, I am positively insane.

If he is gone already I’m going to guess his impact can be described as “minimal”

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

If he’s gone already, he didn’t play very long. Must not have liked the game.

Hmm… I bet all those people that were throwing gold and other items at him when he started to play might feel kind of bad now if he did indeed quit already.

Man am I glad I never got into this whole stream/twitch trend.

GW2 has taught me that being a Mesmer is about..
..being a cynical forecaster.
..being a doom-monger….and being a hopeless jinxer.

Probably missed mounted pve duels with capes and thought the in game economy and loot sucked, as soon as gifts and donations from his followers started to ebb down.

So does this sodapopping person not have a forum account? I haven’t seen them on here yet.

He nvr posts on forums, he is one of the nets biggest trolls not quite Athene’s level yet but getting there he makes thousands of pounds/dollars a month from donations.

I personally don’t get why peeps give money to streamers but i guess it makes them happy.

I guess any professional gamer would have an impact on a game with the amount of followers these guys have but it’s not always an impact for the best, if he decides gw2 is a joke and not worth playing so will his fan base and they will then troll any others who are thinking of playing.

No he isn’t. He’s still leveling and learning off-stream and he said he’ll start streaming GW2 again once he has a better grasp of the game and the PvP meta. He definitely likes GW2 and he’s definitely not done with it yet but he does want to tone down his streaming of GW2 a bit because he’s afraid if he plays/streams GW2 too much he’ll get burned out of it and stop enjoying it.

Reminds me of that South Park episode with PewDiePie. I’m a couple of generations removed from streaming, although I can understand the fascination

Makes me think back to the days when only one or two kids in the neighbourhood had a game system, and the others would all crowd around in their living room or at the windows to watch ’em wreck various 8-Bit monstrosities. If you were lucky, you could eve get a turn. Good times.

I have him on my friends list and saw him online just a few days ago. Considering he has an insanely large following (and his followers aren’t the brightest people, he knows that) he probably plays with his status on hidden most of the time. I can’t blame him for that.

I’m confident he’ll stream GW2 again in the near future. But who knows, maybe I’m wrong. We’ll see.

Impact, what impact? Who is this guy anyway?

Because a bunch of people follow them, so when ever they stream Gw2 it gets bumped to the front page of twitch; this + the thousands of people following them is good publicity for the game.

(Note: I never heard of nay of these guys before this, nor do I follow them)

Oh i understand that much. Publicity is good but my point was that his “impact” is like a tiny rock thrown into the Pacific. Some nice ripples where it hits the surface but then it sinks anyway.

You really underestimate how big it is to have someone single handedly bump up the games viewer count up to the top page of twitch. Twitch is the biggest streaming website in the world and many games have been made popular by this site alone. Its also a reason why microsoft was so intent on buying it for billions of dollars.
