Solid Foundation = Housing?

lol yeah, Nike’s right. Solid foundation refers to the core game, not buildings :p
Hopefully they start teaching players about combo fields as the amount of times iv’e had to explain them to people is just insane.
Garbage. Just straight garbage.
Tutorials and new player training.
Guild halls is my ultimate hope. This, unfortunately, is much more likely. =/
No more monies from me, ANet.
GW2 I’m divorcing you, it’s not me… it’s you.
We KNOW they did a bunch of work for new tutorials and training new players in the many, many sub-systems of GW2 for the China launch. It WILL be a part of this “pack”. That could be three days of friendly play blogs, but my money is its part of the “Foundation” blog.

Why so angry, Soulstar? I too hope it could be housing, but realistically I think it probably won’t be.
But that doesn’t mean there will never be housing, so why are you so angry? I’m pretty sure the devs have stated from the beginning that they do like the idea of housing, but that they’d rather get it right than rush it. I agree with that approach. I will celebrate like a madwoman when we finally get housing, but until then I’m willing to wait.
I just hope that when it comes, it will be just right, with lots of individual customization, alt-friendliness, and not entirely gem-store dependent.
The foundation of a good MMO is a solid endgame. It would only make sense if this is some sort of an endgame announcement. Raids maybe, or new legendary weapons is my hope.

i went so long in this game not knowing about them, in the end i found out because i was telling my mate about combos (in regards to switchign weapons regularly to avoid cooldowns) and he went and did research and came back with all the info about combo FIELDS, he then proceeded to tell other people about this awesome thing i told him about when in reality he had just taught me about it xP
I hope solid foundation is the thing a lot of people were asking for, Housing/Guild Halls.
But know ANet’s track record it probably means nerfing classes or talking about class skills they already addressed earlier in the week.
Oh PLEASE let it be housing!
Cosmetic, limited, monetized I don’t really care but it should be in the game.
If you think about it all of our characters are random homeless people wondering around the world killing things and taking stuff off their dead bodies.
Would be nice to if it was player housing (proper player housing), but doubtful. Player housing has always been one of those nice to have things but I never really got the feeling that it would be worth the amount of effort requires to properly implement it. Or at the very least I haven\t seen any arguments good enough to support the time and effort it will require. Remember if ANet works on player housing that means something else is not being worked on.
Now I might be wrong, and I’d be perfectly fine with that, but just feeling it.

You know the crap that go into airship/Queen’s Jubilee VIP areas….
Yeah those merchants, crafting stations, and mystic forge should be part of housing… instead of a special area money grab.
It would be so cool to have customizable player instances, guild halls or housing as we know it in other games. Doubt this is what they are introducing, but it would be so cool if it were.
It’s probably not housing, and I’m not waiting for cantha or more content anymore.
Judging from the recent blog posts, it’s not going to be player housing or guild halls.
It’d be pretty interesting if they took the destroyed Lion’s Arch and gave us the chance to rebuild in it with an actual player housing area. Because flopping into one of the major towns for a “home instance” isn’t all that interesting, in spite of me having 3 different material nodes and the skill point crystal. :\

it seems many like them better than the games they comment on.” -Horrorscope.7632
Housing doesn’t fit in a “QoL” update. So unfortunately, no.
My thought is that it will just be talking about how they can expand on the new systems in future updates.
Tarnished Coast – Dissentient [DIS]
All classes
Try not to expect anything big for these last blog posts. I got hyped up so much by the Wardrobe and sigil/trait changes that I expected similair grand things from the later blog posts (like tradable ascended gear and more weapons for each class).
I suspect that we’ve already gone through the best parts of this patch and everything from now on will be minor at best. Not that I’m complaining though, I’m really looking forward to this patch.

Pretty certain the blog for tomorrow will be going over the 1-30 changes. New tutorials and such for those characters. Perhaps they have gone so far as to implement the grouping of PS missions like OBrian was talking about for China.
It might be something more, but based on recent blogs, it also might not. We’ll see what tomorrow brings.
Actually, better tutorial is a great idea, the average player in GW2 is extremely bad. Event like the Marionette was suppose to be something relatively easy, yet it kept failing, same goes for the knight’s in LA. I swear about 3/4 of the players got pulled EVERY TIME by the huge telegraphed and easily dodge-able attack.

Yeah, I also would not mind a better tutorial. For myself it’s unneeded……..but things like Marionette taught me I may be the exception.
solid foundation = no traits until level 30
I will take back all the negative things I have ever said about Anet if this ends up being player housing.
My confidence is pretty high I won’t have to though.

they are designing better boots for april. may is pants. june will be gloves and so on…
221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.
It won’t be housing. Period.

I’m inclined to agree. That would just too good to be true.
Just like Guild Halls.

My guess: You are now unable to fall though dungeon floors.
My guess: You don’t longer take falling damage :P
-ArenaNet
New tutorials and possibly a change to personal stories up to lvl 10 or 20. Thus effectively killing off key farming as well. :P
Im still not convinced housing is really needed, because from what I’ve seen, relatively few people will actually stay in their houses/guild halls other than to look at a new feature for 5 mins and go ‘oh, that looks nice.’
There’s still so many fundamental features of the game missing that I think housing shouldn’t be the priority on the list of things to do.
We already have home instance…
We already have home instance…
Which is not a home. Humans have a district with houses (none of which we own). Same goes for charr. Asura have a Lab, which is also not ours, but is instead owned by our Krewe leader. The only races who even remotely have a home are Norn and Sylvari.

Anyone else think it’s a revamp of the guild system or is it just me? I mean, it’s a pretty poor system right now. For anyone that’s seen them, TTS, the guild combine I’m in, manages 12 different guilds spread across every single NA server. This means as a whole, there’s 240 or so different pools of influence due to each guild being split into “chapters” based on where it’s members are.
Basically this system is saying that if you’re a big guild, you’re losing everything that helps define a guild’s ability to benefit players aside from the ability to talk to others in the guild.
Sorry, rambling. Anyways, a “solid foundation” could easily talk about the rebuilding of anything in the game.
Tutorials and new player training.
Yup. If the rate/info of the last few blogs/articles keeps the same, it’ll be only a ‘minor’ feature, like the changes already made to the beginning for the China version. I wouldn’t get my hopes up for any kind of big thing.
Please give us a keyring…
maybe precursors crafting? we all can dream……
Those of you who have played GW1 know what i’m talking about, and those of you who haven’t, wish you did: Guild Halls are not only a place to meet up and socialize, but to trade and sell with players and NPCs alike; more than that, is the beautiful architecture and the vast space, its not just a single building, but a map of your own. They could even be used to bring forth a game feature that, despite its namesake, GW2 has truly been lacking: guild wars.

^ Exactly. It really boggles my mind why features like this from GW1 that were so successful have been left out of GW2.

Bad players will also be bad. If they can’t figure out a telegraphed attack like that , the best tutorial ever designed will not help them.
They would never add a major feature like that, not after we saw this recent posts, it’s mostly changes here, balance there…
Asura thing.

Not sure what you’re talking about. LA was the big place to sell at, as was any other major cities, in GW1. Guild halls were at best a place to loiter and avoid chat trolls.
Also, guild wars as a game function is dead. It’s been subsumed by the bigger feature known as WvW. Why? because in GW1, you had a single “server” with everyone on it. Guilds were used to demarcate the large-scale pvp lines. In GW2, that is no longer the case. Your server/world functions as a macro-guild for the sake of demarcation. Guilds are essentially large and persistent parties.
My made up quote from the dev blog tomorrow, “Here at ArenaNet we feel like all of these things in the feature pack going live on April 15th are all working together in a synergized fashion to give us the most solid foundation for our core game going forward. Now that all the building blocks are in place we can go ahead and announce the release of 5 new maps. 3 maps are for our level 80 players and 2 maps are for our ‘middle game’ and are in the level 40-60 range. These maps will open up season 2 along with our newest playable race: The Tengu.”
Who am I kidding. Everything besides the solid foundation for our core game will not be a part of the announcement to morrow :P
Solid foundation will probably talk about how pvp and pve is getting unified via the wardrobe system. Also they will probably introduce progression to pvp since they removed glory. Of course more details but we can always speculate.
From the blog post in December: “With gear unification we will also introduce a system that allows players to set goals for rewards in PvP and work towards them.”
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/player-vs-player-rewards-roadmap/
So hopefully that.
I understand that a lot of people want player housing, but looking at it objectively (I could care less one way or the other) I am thinking the “solid foundation” is more along the lines of teaching people how to play before they get bombarded with “L2P N00B!” in general chat. Maybe some tutorials, or expanded starter areas with more tasks to illustrate different aspects such as combo fields, or to teach dodging and jumping.
It could also be some of the core systems are being optimized and stabilized, which won’t be so evident in our daily play time, but might make things smoother.
Housing (and to some extent Guild Halls) are not really features so much as added content. If they do bring in those QoL additions, I would hope they do it “right” and don’t give us a half-finished product only to have to fix them later.

Of course LA was always the main trading hub, but that does not remove the usefulness of being able to trade in a place that does not cost 15s to jump to, and is currently not out of operations for god knows how long. And there certainly were bonuses for traveling to GW1 guild halls rather than a main city per say, especially for a new character from fractions that has not unlocked LA, or perhaps even, Kaineng City. Even if these arguments are meek, that does not dispute the aesthetics, pride, and functionality of simply having a guild hall, nor the community events your guild could hold within. And yes, we have WvW, but we also have PvP, so I dont see why it would hurt to add GvG. Moreover, it would encourage guildmembers to all be on the same server and thereby enhance WvW.
Can’t remember where I saw it, but I remember something describing a tutorial system for the China release. That may be what “Foundations” covers.
Some other ideas…
YOLO:
Player and guild housing
Commander badge changes (leading into friendly play)
Guild Influence changes (leading to friendly play)
Fishing (because fishing)

Still waiting for Housing and got hope inside this update for many good things to come inside the game, but none of them got true !! Still main reason I want is build up my House with Emotesystem etc. but I think these dream are dead and nobody ever will working on this. I rescued the world from everything time to retire my chars somewhere.
New Asiate Players coming and they can’t deal with the mechanics already inside the game. It was never planned for this market and build up a differ way !! Also Housing etc and others things where promised after launch of the game. Now it’s 2 Years old and still nothing at all. Soon maybe working on GW3 would start and we still having nothing here we really wanted.
I want to see:
~Guild Halls (As i’m sure you love being reminded, you did promise)
~would expand guild play and community
~could be used to sponsor guild events
~Possible GvG opportunities, or even GH raids
~Alliances (help community guilds like TTS)
~More abilities for Commanders
~harder to obtain command tittles
~Account bound command tittles
~More functionality for squads and squad chat (to encourage squad play and make it more effective)
But yeah, it feels like those would have been part of the social pack rather than the solid foundation one… so I doubt we’ll be seeing them anytime soon ;(
