So I have noticed a lot of new players complaining about the absence of LS1. I have played since release and really enjoyed LS1, yet I missed out on a couple of releases including Southsun story aswell as Flame and Frost.

I do understand that remaking the whole 29 releases to fit soloplayers/small groups is too much to ask for as it would basically be like doing it all over again for Anet, but please take a moment to look at my ideas for a sollution:

1. Imagine if they made 29 additional serverlayers, one for each release, and put all the content as it was during that specific release in each specific server. Then they could add one tab for each of the 29 LS1 releases in the Hero panel just like with LS2, and each of these tabs would give you the option to travel to the specific server for the specific release, much like you can choose to travel to a specific borderland in WvW depending on what you prefer. If they had this feature, everyone could join any of the servers at any time, and replay the content like it was released years ago. The issue with much of the content being designed for larger crowds of players would be solved, as everyone from the whole game population choosing to play a specific release would gather in the same place. They could even add additional layers if one becomes too crowded. The specific content could loop in the same server forever.

Allow me to give an example: You are new to the game and you really want to play the Destruction of Lions Arch. So you open your Hero tab, enter the server that is having the Destruction of Lions Arch release, and join all of the other players who are doing the same! The world would look like it did a year ago, and every single story, every single piece of content would be available to every single player once more.

Someone who never played LS1 could begin on the first server and play as much as they liked with everyone else in the same situation, move on to the next one and so forth until they have played on all 29 servers and are done with LS1. The replay value would be incredible.

When veteran players played the LS1 in the years past, the living and frequently evolving part of the LS1 was the main reason why Anet developed it.

With my ideas, all players would be given the tool to evolve the world at their own pace once again.

That is a pretty neat idea, overall.

Have thought of a couple of problems with it though.

Firstly, 29 different servers (some that have to take quite a large population load) is surely going to be costly?

Secondly, if all story parts are available to play at the same time, overall population might be spread thin for particular tasks, leading them to ultimately fail. This phenomenon can be observed with LS2, where the population in Dry Top is much less and parties to complete particular achievements are struggling to fill.

My idea, that I would propose, would be to schedule the LS1 fights somewhere into the WBT time-plan. I still think it would be a good idea to allow the LS1 fights (Marionette, Breachmaker) to be allocated in separate map instances, considering these fights are now historical in terms of game time.

Perhaps the whole separate map instance thing and scheduling could be explained (lore-wise) by being a new aspect of Fractal Research?

Thanks for making a thread with this, although I think it will fit better in the Living Story section of the forums. I posted something similar about a year ago, and again a couple hours ago in a thread about a new player wondering what happened to season 1.

Here is my post from the other thread:

I had made this suggestion when megaservers first came out. (Actually, I was certain this was A-Net’s Plan) But since they either haven’t considered this or for some reason find it non feasible (I’m curious why), here is my suggestion.
Using your megaserver tech, divide some instances of each zone into previous states from Living World Season 1.
Example: Player A decides he wants to participate in the tower of nightmares. He activates that part of his living world story, and the game will tell him to head over to Kessex Hills to help uncover the mysteries of this giant tower unleashing toxic spores, killing the wildlife. When the player gets to Kessex Hills, he doesn’t enter the same instance as other players doing their personal story or simply visiting the zone. He is placed into a server with other players who have activated this step of the living world story.
That is the bulk of it. I’m sure A-Net could group some of the steps together to avoid too many servers per zone, but it seems the tech is in place for players to enter different versions of a zone. And now all players can play season 1 without the hassle of trying to crop the story into 5 man instances.
If this gets no response, I may try and make a separate thread to get the Dev’s attention.

I hope they make this happen. Or at least comment on the idea.

So with Southsun event, do we have the same precursor drop rate?

Why couldn’t the events be made into Fractals?

Ugh. I’d rather have the multiple “district” idea than more LS events turned into Fractals. Maybe turn them into their own dungeons (ones that don’t make you run three other dungeon paths along with the one you’re hoping for) or something.

It doesn’t really make sense to have the playable as dungeons, though. They’re dead events, from the history of Tyria, which is exactly what all the other Fractals are, including the instances of LS that have already had this treatment applied.

I know. It does make more sense “lore wise” to put them in as Fractals. But I just hate having to rely on RNG to get those fractals to come up for you. I mean, maybe if they did it like the Thaumanova one, where everyone had the option to play that fractal only, in a “Story Mode”.

I’m guessing the best you are going to get (when they do release this) is all the instanced content being done like missions in LS2 and MOST of the world wide events being re-told thru video / slideshow / media of some sort (not interactive). They COULD have several of the world events be available as “alternate” zones that are only available at certain times (like the World Boss rotation). These would be like the, Marionette, Scarlet Invasions (that could rotate to different alt-zones), Lions Arch Escape events, etc..

It would be very difficult to make these “alternate” zone events lore friendly, but they COULD make them accessible via something similar to Fractals (lore wise)….not a 5 man instance but a full ZONE.
