Solo Guilds?

I’m new to the game and before coming here read a lot about having a solo account guild. I have done this is mmo’s before and grinding out a decent guild/corporation/alliance/etc solo in some games is something that can keep me interested after the content of the game dies. I also liked the fact you could have up to 5 guilds, for me that would be 1 solo and 4 with others for different game types.

Now I’m in the game and purchased HoT I find that solo guilds have been pretty much removed and to just get a guild bank is way beyond my current capabilities as a new player (10000 WvW points in 30 minutes, 7 or 8 times).

Does anyone know if this will change back? I realise guilds are allegedly social areas but I’m sure there are other players like myself who like the achievement of making things ourselves, or like separate storage, or who just don’t like other people endlessly going on and on and on and on in the chat box.

Also is there a trading site somewhere where people sell off or give away old unused guilds? That would seem to be the best bet for my own guild.

You can get the first part of the guild bank for 50 gold and 1000 favor without needing a guild hall or any other upgrades. Beyond that, yup, a solo guild is stuffed.

The 1000 favor can be earned in a few days by doing the open world guild missions, esp the “follow and assassinate” ones, as other guilds will be killing the same target so you just need to get a few hits in.

I know that occasionally people do sell old guilds, but I don’t think there’s a site and it’s not supported by the game so if you get scammed you’ll lose all your gold (they might be banned, if you can prove with ingame chat logs/email that they scammed you but you’ll still not get your gold back).

And yeah. They screwed the new would be owners of bank guilds over with these changes.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

Thinking it over, it’s probably a lot cheaper to buy character slots, get the cheaper 20 inventory bags (such as the one you can get with candy corn) and use that for your storage. If you only want a guild tag, I think that’s only a gold.

GW2’s pendulum swings wildly between “Play your Way” and “Play our Way”.

They won’t undo the guild changes though. That particular bit of Solo Hate has to be perma after all this time.. It would be really crappy to the people that rebuilt the new Grindhalls to revert it.

I really miss building and sharing WvW buffs and siege. Mine was not just a bank.

Ley lines. The perfect solution to deadlines and writers block. Now in an easy open Can.

I have a guild I made for myself ages ago just to have the silly guild name tag, I got a guild bank by myself with that very easily. Then they made all these changes.

Now me and my friend have been trying to start up an actual guild of our own that we wanted to use to recruit and help new players, and us and a few friends still havn’t been able to get a guild bank yet. And we got a bunch of guild upgrades that provide boosts that we thought would be really nice to give to new players, but they are locked to only HoT owners apparently… so, bummer. Bleh.

Ah, when I looked at the mission it was in its own instance I think and there were three separate mobs that had to be killed within 30 seconds, I died trying to kill 1.
I’ll keep an eye on it over the next few days and see if the mission changes. (I’d say weeks but the game is getting stale already lol)

Thanks for the other answers as well. If the game doesn’t like solo players then I’m sure it won’t want any money from us lol.

I absolutely hate what happened to guilds but that’s not my reason for posting.
I’m wondering why we are not receiving map chat offers of
“a Guild Hall for a price”.

This game is filled with opportunists and this is an excellent opportunity to make gold.
A regular team, setup and designed to gain guild halls for profit would likely do well if handled correctly. There certainly is a market. It might take a while to work out all the kinks and fix prices but don’t think for a second that solo players cant pay. Many have the remnants of the old guild halls and would like to regain all the buffs they have in inaccessable storage.

I have made 2 private guild halls, one for each location. It took me 4 and 5 people to take each hall, if you have 9 or less you only get one spawn site so it makes it easier on people.
I am using these halls as you said to keep my interest in the game. The new legendaries and old precursors crafting are interesting to some but they just don’t click for me. Getting my halls to lvl 20 is my current goal, one is there the other is at 14 so will see when they both get to 20 what I will do with them.
My recommendation is to absolutely claim a private hall, do the easy weekly 300 point mission and hope for a race in the upper level(s) since you can do it with others (total 15 across the line does not matter if they are in your guild or not).

Because what little persists from the old system isn’t worth the cost. The people who own old solo-bank guilds aren’t willing to sell them off because it’s a non-recoupable investment unless they literally sell it for so much money that they could BUY the same upgrades in the new system.

At that price point, there’s no reason for someone to buy that “classic” guild as they can easily afford to upgrade their hall the proper wayin stead of taking a shortcut from a pre-HoT guild’s upgrades.

Same thing for other pre-HoT upgrades. People are pretty attached to limited edition statues, and some of the scribing recipies are extreme money savers when you don’t have to upgrade the tavern for them.

It’s just not worthwhile to sell an existing guild when you can use it yourself so cheaply. That’s just a perk of being a veteran at this point.
