If your idea is for soloing story mode it’d be best to put that in the title.

As the game is now, soloing dungeons is doable – even story paths. You just have to know what you’re doing.

It’d be cool to see dungeons have an actual “Solo” option that maybe adjusted mechanics a bit while still being difficult. Also, would be nice to get better rewards for these solo runs, especially if they are designed to be very difficult.

I remember that really wild dungeon in Caledon forest. No thnx. I did it once with my party.

It’s not like you’d be forced to do the dungeon.

Agreed that story mode dungeons should be solo, or friend invite optional like personal story instances. Explorable mode should remain as-is.

Didn’t they just recently adjust the Arah personal story mission (victory or death?) to be soloable. Personally, I would love to see the same happen to all story dungeons, though I’d prefer some actual scaling depending on the amount of players.

Maybe this would also help new players understand the difference between a story dungeon and an explorable path more clearly.

Yes yes yes. I would like to go and enjoy dungeons by myself. Not play with others wanting me too play meta or other ways I don’t want. I’d love to go in alone and complete these

I would love it if they just opened the dungeons up to be new maps we can just “play” in. You know to be able to truly “explore” them. What I mean is open them up outside of the story/explorable “missions” and just have people be able to go to them to kill mobs, perhaps harvest special nodes or whatever. Maybe put some new events in them.

All of this I am meaning would NOT be instanced, they would be opened up like normal maps and have anyone coming and going as they pleased. This could open up some more various options for dailies as well.

Since when did this business of being a hero become being a business?

Yeah they did adjust it to be soloable, with quite a few of us experiencing a glitch that completely halted progress. I had to start the mission 4 times on one character because it kept glitching.

I completely agree with the notion of making story paths scale to 1-5 players, with increased difficulty for more players. Arah story is a steamroll with 1 player. Having 3 players run through was just…stupidly easy.

I fully support solo story mode option. It’s story, most people want to play story at their own pace. Leave explorable as group only. Very simple.

Hm. I can actually see a benefit to having a solo option for story modes in dungeons, much like the Arah story mode. I did a story mode recent in Caudecus Manner to help some new players, but one player kept complaining that the others were watching all the cutscenes. Some people just want to skip them all and have zero patience.

A solo mode would allow players to play the story in their own pace, and watch all the cutscenes if they want to. And there would still be explore mode as group content.

Count me as another vote for solo story mode. Not only would it allow me to take in the story at my own pace, but it would also make it easier for PvP players to unlock the dungeon reward tracks.

Explorable mode can and should be left as-is.

I think if they just set the dungeons to adjust to group size this would be alot better then they could also scale the rewards from chest to be less like solo you get 3 to 10 tokens maybe and then scale it up based on how many run it together this way your rewarded for it ether way and have there be a hard mode for groups only that is normal paths mode which garner a little more tokens and scale the coin reward as well so they can not farm it for gold but can run it and get some tokens from it.

This way people can learn the lay out and the dungeon its self before trying to jump into a full group in hard mode.

Edited the lay out would look like this.

Story mode scales to player count.
Explorer mode scales to group size with less reward.
Explorer mode normal requires up to 5 players and is a little more difficult.

Wont happen….because:

1 – It would be far more work.

2 – Players would then demand henchmen for other parts of the game including open world PvE. That is something that goes against the “flow” of this game.

Since when did this business of being a hero become being a business?

I don’t see how, since as far as I can tell the flow of the game has devolved into: run through the map as fast as possible and ignore all other players and monsters along the way.

You could have a Tank and it wouldn’t disturb the flow, since the flow is to just ignore you.

I would love for story dungeons to have a solo mode like Arah does now. The dungeons provides such a huge part of lore outside of the actual story quests, both with various aspects of the lore (dredge, fire legion, etc) and you can actually see Destiny’s Edge coming back together. I’d like to be able to do the story mode dungeons, but I don’t want to have to deal with other people. I got yelled at for watching the cutscenes for Caudecus’s Manor when the party was advertised as “Story.”

This is the #1 reason my wife and I don’t have our legendaries made. She is very uncomfortable doing dungeons with others because she frankly lacks the confidence and suffers from trembles so this make the experience more daunting. It would also be nice to actually see all the content that has been developed for the game and this could easily happen through a solo dungeon system.
I know it’s an MMORPG but the reality is many players solo and frankly most do at some point or another so I just don’t see why this wouldn’t be considered viable. This of how much development time would be saved if both versions were available, solo and group, all of this would be new to solo players and give them that much more to do long term.
Keep it a challenge just lower the health or volume of npc’s you must interact with as a solo player, just scale it.

No thanks, it would just make all the paths easier in this mode. You can already solo most dungeon paths. This is basically asking for solo dungeon easy mode. If you want to do dungeons solo, go learn to do them solo. Grind your face against a boss until you get good at it.

I guess I could understand it for story mode, so that people can complete the relevant content, but definitely not for explorable.

Necros don’t have reflects, invulns, vigor, blocks,
extra dodges, real stability, mobility skills,
burst skills, sustain, or good support. GG ANET.

I agree it should just be for story mode, but saying you can already solo most dungeon paths is a bit misleading. A very small % of players have taken the time to painstakingly master dungeon paths so they can solo them. 99% of players definitely cannot solo explorable dungeon paths. And in many cases it is class specific.

I mean, there’s difficult, and then there’s waste of time difficult.

Not everyone plays that way but I am sure many do. I like to play the world, take my time, chat with NPC’s. and just roam around and explore. I see events nearby or someone battling, I play along. I have played 3 characters completely like this through the main story and the living stories. Once the expansion goes live, I will start another character and play through the whole thing again.

That said, I would like the ability to solo a dungeon story legitimately. I have played 2 or 3 of the dungeons with a small guild back some time ago. They are gone so I play solo. The LFG usually has the same, “speed run, zerk only” and very few story mode groups are available. I enjoy the whole game world and play the game for more than just a loot run.

I’m going along with the title.

+1 to dungeons with Solo mode.

It ruins the game experience to watch the party nit pick over who’s pet was in the wrong spot or who didn’t stack on spot A instead of spot B even though the result is the same.

“You stack at the wall? you have no idea how to play the game, you should come 400 distance over here and stack here on this tiny pillar instead or be kicked”

I mostly play for the new Free-For-All arena in PvP lobby.

I would prefer that ANet devote whatever resources they have for instanced gameplay to focus on new dungeons, new fractals, or new modes that we haven’t seen yet, rather than cater to a small fraction of the player base interested in soloing only if it has different mechanics.

We can already solo a lot of dungeon paths, including some story modes (only some of which require profession-dependent tricks to get past a gate). I don’t see any reason to make the paths easier just because some people want to have a single-player experience within a massively multiplayer environment.

Further, we already have a lot of soloable content, including jumping puzzles, champions in out-of-the-way corners of Tyria, etc.

For story mode yes, especially since it is a gate to paths and pvp tracks. Most just zerg through story mode anyways to get it over with anyways, plus it goes more inline with the PS arc that many miss because most groups want you to skip cinematics.

Want to solo a dungeon? Figure out how to solo it and step up!

Now, that said, SIGNIFICANTLY less rewards for completion(talking 10% or so), ok sure, as long as it isn’t unreasonable for ANet to pull it off taking time away from other avenues.

Want Story mode made more in line with Soloing, Totally in support there. These are stories, they’re honestly pretty simple and easy. While some of the stories are fun, their replay value is just very low anyways. Let them be designed for those that want to get the stories out of it seems fair to me if they’re not going to make them something you actually want to do regularly outside of just having a little fun. (currently not challenging or rewarding enough to want to do regularly)

But, I do think that the current state of solo/low man dungeons is pretty much the best way to try and find a challenge currently. I think having dumbed down solo options would negatively impact the rewarding aspect of actual dungeon solos (both in emotional and financial ways).

A lot of Story dungeons are currently able to be solo’d…..

And many explorable dungeons can be solo’d as well if you are good enough.

If you refuse to play with other players… might just want to not do dungeons. You can watch all the cinematics on youtube if you are just interested in the lore.

Story mode dungeons should be a part of the personal story, or another type of personal story that goes with it if they didn’t want to bloat it. A majority of players likely don’t bother with dungeons, so they end up missing that section of the story.

Explorable mode dungeons should scale, and you should be able to pick the scale like fractals. If you want to solo a dungeon scaled for 5 people, you should get 5x the rewards. It would likely make them much more popular, which means more resources and they wouldn’t be dead like they are now. As for rewards, assuming equal scaling, soloing a dungeon would still be harder than doing it as a group.

I doubt anything will ever happen to dungeons however. They’ll likely remain lost content as ArenaNet moves on to try guild raids/dungeons/whatever with HoT. Dungeons were originally revealed as content designed for coordinated groups, so I wouldn’t be surprised if explorable dungeons end up coming back in the form of guild adventures one day. Then they wouldn’t have to bother with the typical PuG complaints.
