I’m sure this will get deleted or lock or whatever they do, but had to say my piece. When Guild Wars 2 was coming out they said that it would be soloable for those that either cant or don’t want to group up. Yet they have things in the game that require grouping. I don’t understand how they can have said it was soloable when parts of the game require a group to complete.
When I play the game I can never find anyone to group with. Plus in a lot of areas of the game an event is impossible to do unless there are several people. I could be wrong on this but I understood that events will scale. Well they don’t scale for one person. I wouldn’t mind it if they were just hard and would have to port to finish it, but by the time I get back to the event everything is back exactly the way it was when I first came on it. So there is no way for me to change it.
And the Halloween event was the topping on the cake. To do the Mad King part 3 you have to group. I thought the meta events and pvp areas were designed for groups not the special content.
Again I doubt this thread will go anywhere, but I just had to rant. Plus I doubt I will come back to check on the thread. At least when they made Guild Wars 1 they set it up so you could get through without having to grouping up.

Please show me somewhere that a dev said that dungeons could be done solo.

Uh, I don’t know where you’re getting this info from but I’m fairly certain they’ve always said that their intended focus on the game was on social game play. Meaning grouping.

There are many events that can be done solo. If there are other players nearby, but not participating (causing the event to scale) then it might not work out so great.

You can level up and get exotics without ever engaging or interacting with other players.

You could probably even beat the Mad King instance solo if you’re careful enough.

You may not be getting the entire online multiplayer experience this way, however.

they will also have you thrown in jail and have the IRS recheck your taxes. Is this new fad? Claiming negative criticism isnĀ“t allowed around here while the forum is bursting of those threads for weeks?

Anyway, I doubt anyone ever said the whole game was soloable and that approach would seem rather weird in this genre too.

Now, by the whole game being solo-able, I’m sure they left out the part that it’s pretty much only the story that’s solo-able. Actually, I’ve ran through this game quite a few times on different characters and didn’t once party to beat the game. Nor do events, especially group events.

As far as the third Act of the Mad King goes, if you play it smart, it as well can be soloed, I’ve already done this, and so have many others. Not everything those merchants sell after events are completely useless.

Now I don’t want to give away my secret or anything, because I’m sure if many people understood, and actually did do what me and my girlfriend do, the item would be removed so that we can’t duo dungeons. So, just for that sake, I’ll simply say explore the merchants after every event you do, especially the one’s in Caledon Forest (hint, hint, nudge, nudge).

I soloed an ele all the way to 80 and the only time I grouped was for the penultimate portion of my storyline that required me to do Arah. Everything else is optional.

I was able to solo the mad king. It took about 25 minutes on my guardian. I used mace/shield in full exotic cleric gear, traited for symbols and defense. The mad king was never really able to hurt me, so the fight was just a test of how many times I could clear the fear condition before I fell off the edge. The adds were no trouble at all.

They said it was possible to solo level all the way to 80, not every aspect of the game could be done solo.

Story mode dungeons though, they should be balanced around a group of 4 bad players/3 ok players/2 good players/1 pro player. They are supposed to be about playing through the story right? Sounds casual. imo, explorables are easier than story modes, but I only did story modes once and at their intended level.

actually i to thought they said dungeons story mode could be soloed but you would fight with npcs like rytlock and that the paths after would be hard and you would need to take friends with.
However, either at the time it was miscommunicated or the system hadnt been set in stone yet or possible they were explaining how dungeons wouldnt be soloed but story mode could be. you might say i contridicted myself there or something but what im saying is perhaps story mode = story, which is an instance as are the dungeons leading to even more confusion considering such article on it were about a game that none of us had even played.

Want an entirely solo game? The why the heck are you on a MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER online game?

Because group PvE gameplay is only a tiny portion of many MMOs that a lot players don’t give 2 hoots about?

Because an MMO means playing in a game that is constantly changing and diversified by having other players, which can include their effects on the tradepost, their roleplaying (if that’s your thing), their effects on the world around you by doing events themselves, or generally being able to help or run with others when you feel like it but not being required to?

Because this MMO is greatly focused on PvP and it would be nice to get to 80 for WvW without having to rely on sometimes nonexistent other players?

Sorry, but that argument is old, tired and pretty much the definition of fail. Every time it is used on ANY game forum it immediately gets blown out of the water… and yet surprisingly keeps appearing. A simplistic 2D view of MMOs will get you nowhere- there’s FAR more to the game than PvE group play.

HOWEVER, that being said- I have yet to run into anything outside of dungeons that I could not solo (with the exception of 1 champ mob in harathi, a spider that requires you to kill it in 12 minutes but returns to 100% health halfway through the fight. I couldn’t muster the DPS to drop him). Champ mobs take patience due to sheer health, but they are soloable. I have also soloed this act 3 of the Halloween event. It is very possible for MOST situations.

Okay now I feel like a Bleep. I hoped back in the game and seen the dungeon icon. And yes I know the dungeons are not meant to be done solo. Although I question your story line being able to all be solo since the last one is a dungeon. But I have not actually tried it so can’t say on that one.
I was talking about the general stuff to be soloed by the way. And I did do a search on the net and it does say a lot of the game can be done solo. As for the events I never thought about other players being around to change the difficulty. I didn’t see others but that does not mean there wasn’t some there.
And yes I know it is a social game that is why I play it. But I was really meaning having to actually get in a group invite. I love the part where you can kind of group without having to party invite. That was the part I loved about it. But again I just didn’t notice that the Mad King was a dungeon. They threw me off on that one and I jumped the gun. I’m bad for that.
I will have to say surprisingly I had almost made it through the Mad King when I gave up. I went in again and actually found some people to group with and I just missed defeating it by a fraction. As I have told others in the game when I went back, I just have to quit jumping the gun.

Oh and thanks for all the info on this thread by the way.

Its funny when someone brings up this topic it gets shot down. Not once did he say anything about dungeons. And the devs did say that content would scale. The problem is doing the regular content is sometimes hard to solo and you should be able to if there’s not 10 other players in the area. I find alot of the map empty of players and you can’t solo a lot of it. The game was made to always need a lot of players in all area’s of the map. And it was like that when the game came out. But now its not. This is a big problem for players that are not max lvl. And i see this as a big problem for this game. When i go into an area and see a champion i run away. And that seems to be happening a lot now because of empty map area’s. This is something Anet. should really look into now.

You can solo pretty much everything in PvE that doesn’t say [Group Event] And even certain group event are soloable. Take Dwayna for example. This event is soloable if you know what you do.

Whether you’re good enough or not to do it is entirely personal. It’s not because you’re unable to solo something that it isn’t soloable.

I soloed the Mad Kind on a full berserker guardian it was too easy so that’s a bad example really especially as a ‘’icing in the cake’’.

You are right about group events tough and we knew it a year ago or more. Game was great when it launched with many people in group event, but now it feels empty. I’m leveling my third 80 atm and the experience is far far less enjoyable now not to mention I don’t have any guild made to play with anymore as they a left that dumb piece of kitten game.

I’d encourage anyone who’s having trouble finding people to play with to keep looking for a guild that’s compatible.

I’m in one that I like a lot and find people to do group content with all the time, and even for doing “soloable” content, too. Makes the game more fun if you have more options.
