Limit the number of guesting people in any given zone. The excess numbers can be placed in overflow servers. In this way, the exploit will be discouraged and greatly reduced.
Sure, people may still attempt to do this, but it would be a gamble. They’d have to come well in advance to benefit from it.
More importantly, people that do not do this exploit will not be placed into overflow.
The trick will be in finding a balance that does not affect those that simply want to guest with friends. Unfortunately, it’s probably going to cause problems anyway for these people in zones with dragon events.

You can call it an exploit all you want but it isn’t.

It’s not technically an exploit, but it’s still pretty dang annoying.

Fine, would you suggest another term? I like ‘exploit’ because I don’t believe the devs intended it. Zones with these events running get terrible lag and the boss goes down in a couple minutes. Also, the behavior is caused by players wanting to get rare stuff an easy way.
I don’t think ‘bug’ is the correct term, since the issue is more about players’ behavior.
‘Issue’ may be a good alternative, though it seems a bit vague.

It is technically an abuse of game mechanics, i’m sure Anet will address it sooner or later, i like that the Chests are per character (i still only use one or two characters even though i have nine, many players are just greedy)..

But i think world drops should be fixed to the world your account is in, not a guest server..

I feel sorry for the server natives who are being bumped into overflows because of greedy guesters, which prevents them from being able to complete or participate in these events.

Make it so guests can’t simply switch+log right into a particular zone, but instead they wind up first and foremost in Lions Arch. Then, if they choose to enter a particular zone (queensdale, for instance) they are notified that there is a risk of being bumped into an overflow at any given time (if more natives come to the zone).

1. Natives should have priority above all, over any guests in any zones.
2. Guests should be thrown into queues with each other to get out of the overflows (natives in overflows should still have priority over guests in overflows).

Sounds to me like you’re on a high population server. That’s more of a home population problem not a guesting problem. Anyone guesting is smart enough after doing one event on a high population server to guest to low population servers from that point forward. I’m on Blackgate and we don’t have a guesting problem. We have a “everyone on our server shows up now” problem.

Regardless of the cause, it seems like the number of players in a given zone should be reduced. If that means fewer locals can partake in the event, so be it.
Before the events started, I was playing on the opposite side of the zone. I knew the events were starting when I started experiencing lag. It should be possible to play in the zone without lag/whatever caused by the dragon event.

I’m not against the idea of guest being thrown into overflows or something like that to make room for the real servers population. It wouldn’t affect me since I only go to lower population ones. Not sure how much of an effect it would have on the top 6 or so servers though since it seems to me that even without guesting Blackgate would still be packed. Guest to the lower servers guesters! Believe me, it’s a much much better experience……

the best solution i found is to randomize the respawn timers.
so players wont “check the timers and camp the event”.

i think that if the boss spawns on random respawn (+/- 30min) its gonna create a better mood for the fight/ event, discourage guesting, an discourage lazy farmers.

keep the rare in the chest

thank you.
