I’ll be first to say I love Guild Wars 2, it has a lot of great things going for it, which is why I want it to get better. With the release of HoT I actually thought it would extend me and my friends interest in the game, but something didn’t feel right. I kept asking myself why I feel a little meh about the game right now, maybe I burned myself out temporarily, but here’s a few things I sort of see that took a slight step backwards from when I first started:

PVP diversity: Granted the old way of using traits made for some broken builds (looking at you turret engi), part of the fun for me pvp was seeing different or strange builds in both matches and dueling that worked. Warrior is a prime example for me, I remember back then I would see full signet warriors, gs warriors, tanky banner warriors, etc. mesmers there was phantasm, condition, power shatter, lockdown, guardians had AH and medi for two different roles. Really look around at the players now, everyones running the same thing or a slight variation of it.

WVW: Took a pretty big hit to the point where I had to leave IoJ to Maguuma because the server just flat out died due to bad matchmaking. New maps actually hurt the game mode as everyone is funneled into EB most of the time as the map just isn’t practical.

Stronghold: A brand new game mode for PVP, it has potential and I have fun with it, so why doesn’t Anet have faith in it? Not is there no competitive play in this game mode (no builds on metabattle) it was just a flat out forgotten game mode that could’ve gotten maybe a few new maps like conquest, something to highlight it or give it some love. We NEVER hear about stronghold.

Those are my thoughts so far at least, I want to see this game get better because it has a lot to offer, I just feel like there were some bumps in the road along the way. But who knows, similar to a video on Woodenpotatoes, maybe under a new head things might get better similar to Diablo.

The main problem with GW2 is that the modes don’t collaborate well. PvP builds are worthless in the open world but strong open world builds can’t even be allowed to potentially exist in PvP. So when you bring up an overpowered or underpowered build in one mode you are actually talking about a very effective basic build in another mode.

As for the WvWvW maps it’s going back to Alpine.

imo – the problem is actually 50/50

the game itself is great, the rules are basically psychotic.

Example – you need a new ingredient, fiffles to make the new wiffle-faffle item…..they create a new area farfle, and farfle is a bit difficult, because you need a wiffle ward, to get the wiffle ward you need 4,000 fiffles. You need 8,000 fiffles to make a wiffle-faffle item but you need 4,000 fiffles to make the wiffle-ward in order to get the wiffle-faffle item, since you need to beat the farfle queen to get a fiffle’s essence item at the end of the mission.

stay with me -

Now you get a few guys that secretly let themselves get obsessively face roled in farfle to get 4,000 fiffles to make the wiffle-ward. People start complaining because now these guys are saying on lfg – “Farfle run, people with wiffle-wards only.”

people start complaining because they don’t all play for fiffles in farfle because they just don’t have days of time to get facerolled for fiffles, and the guys flaunting wiffle-faffle items start crying on the forums that everyone is whining, and want to nerf the only part of the game they love, ….these same people come on a few months later complaining that they are bored. anet nerfs the farfle, so everyone else can play…..and next season they make the poople, and the same people go out there secretly getting facerolled in the game to get pipples to get the pimple-ward to finish the area and start the same nonsense all over again in the lfg.

it’s a twisted co-dependent process that never ends….it starts with ‘we listened’ and ends with ‘you don’t care, i’m leaving’ – repeat.
