Given so many people complain about it being difficult to earn gold without grinding like mad, I thought I would post some of the ways I earned a Triforge pendant and a Breath of Jormag without burning myself out or using methods that ANet are going to nerf.

1: Omnomberry bars. Seriously. Buy them. You should always have a stack on hand, and pop one when you’re doing any form of activity that will result in a high kill count.

2: Twilight Arbor. Getting a group for this that can actually fight might be a pain, but grab a few friends, and you’ll all get rich pretty quick. Save the Onyx Cores you get from it, and synth them into Onyx Lodestone. You have a pretty decent chance of getting a core or two every run, and lodestone’s aren’t that rare if you use an Omnom. Seriously, I cannot stress Twilight Arbor enough. A single good run can get you 3g, and you’re relying on the chests, not the clears. I’ve made 5g on a run where I lucked out, and said profit is entirely due to what players have done to the market.

3: Ascalon Catacombs full kill runs. Most of the champion mobs in AC drop 5s+. With an Omnomberry bar, this goes up to 7s+, meaning that it pays for itself. There’s no lodestones here, so alot of the profit is in the ending clear.

4: Exchanging dungeon tokens for tier 2 sigils/runes. Mostly a luck method, but you should be able to rapidly get a collection of t2 runes/sigils, which you mix together in the forge. 25% chance to make over a gold, for only 200 dungeon tokens. Given you make over 200 dungeon tokens for just running all three paths and killing everything, and can luck out and score like 5 gold, you’ve got no real risk to this method.

5: Southsun kill squads. Just make laps around the island in magic find gear. You’ve got an entire island dedicated to just Bloods/Scales, and on a decent drop rate. Bring a few friends to kill quickly, and you can make some decent income. Even just one friend really speeds this up though.

6: Claw of Jormag farming. Again, bring friends. Focus on the adds on all phases of the fight, pitching in when the dragon is stunned. You get a very constant flow of loot, and even the tiny ice elementals that self destruct are worth money and have a chance at Corrupted Lodestones.

Basically, grab friends, and work together. People are always complaining GW2 doesn’t encourage social play, but you actually make a TON more gold by playing with friends and doing group content.

Indeed. It is also worth noting that grouping always seems to result in a much higher loot count.

Much higher is a severe understatement.

As each player has an independant loot table, a full group gets 5x the loot, albeit divided among five people.

Now, if said five people are friends working together on, say, ascended back items for everyone, we can assume that they will chip in towards eachother’s goals, speeding it up for everyone.

It’s not just TA, and don’t exactly go pugging TA, you get it done a ton faster with a group willing to cordinate and use tactics. TA has aloooot of profit, but it’s pretty good at cleaning up pugs on the first boss alone.

No. It means even if you killed it alone, you wouldn’t have got the precursor.

No. It means you get full loot. If they kill it as well, the game counts it as two kills, with two loots, each player getting one kill’s worth. If three kill one target, the game counts it as killing three, etc.

And gamblers fallacy means that they’re not stealing from you, as each loot roll is independant of other loot rolls.

You guys misunderstand. Having more party members doesn’t increase your MF, nor give you better loots. it helps in 2 ways

1.) You kill mobs faster (faster is always better), and most importantly
2.) It helps you tag more mobs with less damage.

For example 2, say you’re in pent doing the event. a wave of 10 riseon come at you. you throw your grenades doing 300-500 dmg each. With the amount of people hitting them, your damage contribution will be less and less. To be recognized for killing the mob, you have to deal a certain damage within a threshold, if less than that, you don’t get credit (aka tag). With more party members, somehow, either you share the damage done or your individual damage threshold lowers with more members hitting the same mob such that when before, to get full credit for the mob, you have to hit it with 2.5k worth of damage, with a full group of 5, just 500 will do. That’s, imo, what having party members bring to the table.

Don’t disturb me, I have a cat in me at the moment.

Welcome to the wide world of Massively Multiplayer Online RPG’s, where guilds complete raids as a team. Groups complete dungeons as a team. Goals are worked on by groups of people. And there are thousands of people on at any given time.

If you’re looking for a game that doesn’t discriminate against those who refuse to chat with others, might I suggest Skyrim. You can skip all that chat, and do whatever you want to whoever you want. With nobody stealing your precursors by being in your group.

Groups of friends working together, instead of just groups, come with the benefit of people sharing with eachother as well, which can speed things up for everyone.

Friend gets a powerful blood, you get an armored scale, the two of you swap instead of selling on the TP and losing out due to the 15% tax. Atop faster kills and everything else, it really helps you make a profit.

Wow it’s 15% tax now, use to be 10%, that coupled with the drop nerf poor little Timmy and Billy won’t be trading powerful blood/Armored Scales anymore, they’ll be trading each other broken armour because reapair bills/teleporting will be too expensive.

It was 15% at release too. Nice attempt, poor followthrough. Your earlier attempts at least relied on ignoring things such as the gamblers fallacy, and can be argued (and proven false due to how RNG seeds work). This is simply relying on willful denial of facts.

Option 1 of OP post is pointless at the moment with the Loot droprate bug and it being made worse with Magic find.

Option 5 I have tried and got nothing but shells and crab meat from karka’s.

Option 6, loot drop rate bug means I get hardly anything from the pre-events.

That leaves the 3 dungeons options …. not my cup of tea …

You are better off leveling your characters to 80 and taking each one around and harvesting ori, ancient wood and omnomberries. make sure you are full up on them and sell excess on TP.

Nope. It’s not. You’re not using the Omnomberry bar for the Magic Find. It gives 40% gold gain. In AC and TA, you’ll be dealing with alot of coin drops. The omnomberry bar will pay for itself and then some.

Bugs are just that, bugs. And truth be told, I hadn’t heard about this bug. I don’t run magic find gear though, so that might be why.

The money you make from a full harvest run relative to time, as opposed to a killsquad in Southsun (Factoring for the rich Ori node), is pretty signinficantly less. I’ve done both.

We have a new player-driven market that allows players to trade gold for gems and gems for gold. If you want something, whether it’s an in-game item or a microtransaction, you ultimately have two ways to get it: you can play to earn gold or you can use money to buy gems.

That’d be great accept oh that’s right they moved that new financial manager in place and now they have DR, a .0000002% drop rate on T6 mats, a new and improved broken mf system the higher the score the more pourous bones you get yay!, a fantastically nerfed globs of ecto salvage rate, get 20% of your drops for the price of 100% of the mats, and the new and improved dungeon only progression system where you have to go in with strangers or be grouped with strangers you share a banner with to get anything worth while EVEN when they are offline! Sorry OP but when only 10% of the population is getting drops only a few can get profits enough to gear their alts.

Go somewhere and wait for LFG for a Dungeon, Lions Arch is a good place. A lot of people know about the grouping thing so when at an Event just say “can someone invite me to a group?”, works almost every time if it doesn’t start making your own group people really don’t care if they know the others or not.

being in a party with everyone in the same zone/area gives you at bonus to your magic find stat, atleast this is what the offical guide said anyhow, maybe they got rid of it, maybe not hard to test.

also Magic Find doesnt affect chests so using Omnom in TA for chest loot is pointless and a waste of money.

A waste of money? A run shouldn’t take more than 30mins. There’s atleast 2 bosses that drop 10s each, that’s 8s if you kill both and omnom bars are what? 3s? 5s profit. But yeah, you don’t use bars for chests.

About 3, Spider, Kholer and Troll all drop 10s. There is 2 gold bosses, both dropping 5s each. In addition to last boss, 15s. 55s without omnom bar, 77 with +26s for completion. 1g per path. +drops

About 4, or you can buy rares(cof/coe/hotw/arah) and try for ectos too.

Test by people in the loot drop thread show magic find has less drops and it looks like it gives more fines/bags/salvagable while giving less “equipment”. Until the developers clarify how magic find works we can only assume its broken.

Increasing one’s gold income rate is all fine and well if you’re just using it for fixed game stuff like wp costs, repairs, respecs, etc…. but all this does is make T5/T6 mats, gems, and other stuff more expensive since all gold making will do (without any mat farmers) is inflate the prices. If everyone is farming TA, I suppose the price of onyx cores/lodestones would eventually go down which would make a lot of folks seeking Predator happy.

Yeah this really only affects market prices of certain cores/lodestones and possibly globs of ecto (because with CoE, you can convert tokens into rare items that can be salvaged)… Doesn’t really impact the market of T5/T6 claws/scales/sacs/totems/etc. sure, some of these things can drop in bags or off certain mobs that maybe present in CoE, Arah, CoF, and HotW… but not with any reliable consistency.

Bumping, with a correction.

Since the price on Armored Scale has basically tanked (22s to 6-7s), Southsun farming has lost alot of its profit margin. The karka still pay well, but DR is in play if you farm just them.

There’s still profit to be made, but part of what made it so effective (Karka, to drake, to underwater sharks, to karka) lost two thirds of it’s targets value.
