Exotic ring: 48 power
Exquisite Jewel: 15 power
Total: 63 power

Ascended ring: 50 power + 18 power
Total: 68 power

So, ascended items give 5 increase in a single stat compared to exotic ones.
Let’s move on.

5 extra power per trinket
5 trinket slots
Full ascended trinkets = 25 extra power

Now, in the future when they release ascended armor and weapons.
6 armor slots + a weapon slot
At very least +5 power per item
that’s 35 extra power

So, not counting backpack, full ascended gear it at least 60 extra points per individual non % stat.

Of course this doesn’t take runes/sigils into account, but jewels are equivalent in power to runes/sigils. Armor/weapons aren’t realeased yet either, but it’s an insight on what may be coming.

Hope this helps

Actually you’re forgetting to take into account the magic find stat difference, which is the primary stat on the ring. The 7% magic find = 92 stat points from comparing exotics which means 1% magic find = ~13.1 in stats. This gives the ascended ring a total of 49.4 more stat points than the exotic.

and something that EVERYONE forgets:

ascended armor can’t be slotted with runes or sigils – only infusions.

you won’t be using ascended armor (EDIT: for anything, BUT) the fractal. i know i won’t. i’m not going to lose my rune and sigil bonuses for a few more stat points, outside of the fractal.

This patch won’t have ascended armor, just the ring and back slots, which have the gems built-in.

Actually you’re going to have to use it.

Here’s a quote from the blog post.

Players who wish to delve deep into the Fractals will find that Agony makes progress increasingly difficult, until they reach the point where some defense against this condition is a must.

i actually miss said that and meant to say for anything, BUT the fractal. i can’t apparently proof-read my own posts.

@steelwolf: they already said they’re going to implement more ascended armor options soonTM, so, they’ll eventually be available. even then, unless the infusion bonuses are somehow equivalent to rune/sigil bonuses (unlikely), you still won’t be using ascended armor for anything, but, this one particular dungeon.

Except for the fact that the Ascended armor has the Jewel equivalents already built in to the item. You’re missing out on a Rune for a set bonus, but if you were aiming for stats, you won’t be using the Runes anyways.

On top of that, it has the Infusion slots; If you can find an Ascended item with your designated stat set, it will be better than an Exotic. Period.

I would like to direct your attention to this paragraph in the blog.

“This is just the beginning. In November, we’re only adding the first level of Infusions and Ascended Rings and Back slots, so that leaves us a lot of room to build upon these levels of Item progression in future content.”

They plan to add more dungeons that require this gear and I expect them to have rune and infusion slots on the armor pieces.

Even if the new gear would only be good for the new dungeon it is a really bad idea to have a dungeon requireing specific gear. And just imagine down the line trying to find a group for that dungeon if you don’t have ascendant gear.

Only the infusions will be required and probably change for each dungeon, thus all this really is an attunement/gating thing, which isn’t TOO bad, unless said infusions requires the previous dungeon to get, which is essentially a mini gear treadmill.

If it’s just a small attunement thing I don’t mind that too much, but it’s clunkier having to add a whole new tier of gear for it.

I’d rather just have the new tier of gear w/o this infusion/agony nonsense, it’s just an annoying dungeon gimmick tied to gear upgrades which I’m not fancying.

Having a tiny bit of stat difference on the new gear to have something a little more to work for I think is perfectly fine.

Exactly. This gear is only for fractals of the mists right now but in the future you will continue to need it. Right now it’s just the ring and back piece, but in future content they are saying they will release more ascended gear, and eventually ascended weapons. So eventually you will need it for any dungeon.

Slippy slope. After 3 months, now, you have new gear that is more powerful, thus becoming the “must get” items. People will just rush to the new dungeon to get these gear, making the current dungeons useless.

For now rings and backpack is not so bad right, but this is the start. When ascended weapons and gear come out, as Anet says it will, then all their current content will be invalid at once.

Unless you are one of those rare players that will grind for 2nd best gear, when you could be grinding for the best.

Also Infusions act as a gate, forcing people to progress linearly from dungeon to dungeon. For hard core players it is ok, but GW2 is supposed to be for casual players. It has a large base of such players. After awhile they will not be able to compete with all those grind to pass the gate.

Thus many will stop playing. I stopped playing WoW because at top level, I found that I cannot do more then 1/4 of the end game content because I do not have the “special” gear.

Now GW2 is going that way. It is sad. Also it is a turn about on their policy of no gear progession at end game.

Wait? Where are these “factual” numbers coming from? Did they release the dev blog already?

Good thread!
Please keep this out of the big threadnought whine-fest.

Just as I thought, ascendant gear isn´t much of a big deal except to those who already have grinded down a legendary or two.
At least that´s what we know from the current facts.

^This is my concern.

Atm you have dungeons tiered for the same quality gear, where the difference is just the looks. However, introducing a brand of more powerful items will make these old instances obsolete.

So, i would say, proceed with care!
