I just started playing and I’d appreciate some input on these:

1. Why do the mobs spawn so quickly? Basically, whenever I enter an area, the creatures just respawn behind me, making some areas impossible to complete alone.

2. Why is my character always slowed when hit by a creature, even though there’s no slow effect on me?

3. Is there any way to turn off the PVP spam (the Daily notification in the upper right corner, and in the status bar)?

4. How come there’s no “mark as junk” option for items? Seems like a perfectly obvious thing to include.

Thanks!

The daily spam disappers if 3 dailies are done. You can reduce the amount by choosing one to Watch.

1-2 I know, I just wonder what’s the logic behind that?

4. Right, but I think an option to mark an items as junk would be extremely useful, don’t you?

You mean like which one to track?
Is there an option for that?

Easiest is to do it when you log on. Just pick one from the login reward panel. Click on the little eye.
Also they can be found in Hero→Achievements→Dailies

  1. Mobs don’t spawn quickly, your just killing them too slowly. MMOs respawn rates are determined by population, games will have mobs spwan faster so players aren’t always kill-stealing.
  2. Combat speed is the actual speed you’re meant to experiencing the game. Non-combat speed is a luxury they gave us players to let us move around and map faster.
  3. You can click the purple ‘Daily’ bar to minimize/compact the dailies list. But yes, the only way to remove them is to actually do 3 of them, or activate a watch-list.
  4. There isn’t a ‘mark as junk’ but there is such a thing as Junk Bags that move all your junk in that slot.

Not sure why you want to mark items as Junk, but if it is for selling to the Vendor, they have a ‘Sell Junk’ option on their window.

If mobs did not respawn, there would be no mobs for the person behind you to kill.

Not sure what you mean by ‘PvP spam’, but you can dictate what shows up in the Heads-Up display by accessing the Achievements Panel in the Hero Window.

Welcome to Tyria, and good luck. (The Wiki, accessed from the link at the top of the page, has much helpful information.)

1. Why do the mobs spawn so quickly? Basically, whenever I enter an area, the creatures just respawn behind me, making some areas impossible to complete alone.

They respawn so the next player has something to fight, basically. And as you get used to the game and your characters get stronger, you may find yourself clearing things a bit faster. But it would be boring if everything was already dead when you got there, right?

2. Why is my character always slowed when hit by a creature, even though there’s no slow effect on me?

Much like how you heal a lot faster once you’re out of combat, you also move faster when you’re out of combat. Your combat speed is the real “normal” speed, the faster movement is just so it doesn’t take forever to get across a map when you’re not fighting things.

3. Is there any way to turn off the PVP spam (the Daily notification in the upper right corner, and in the status bar)?

As others have said, you can select just one of them to watch, and then the others don’t show. To get rid of it completely, however, you have to do enough of them to complete the daily. Once done, it will only show any you are watching, and otherwise be empty.

Please note that you can do any mix of the ones from PvP, PvE, and WvW to do this.

4. How come there’s no “mark as junk” option for items? Seems like a perfectly obvious thing to include.

Anything with the name in dark gray and marked “Trophy” is usually considered junk to sell to a vendor. When selling, there’s a “Sell Junk” option that will sell all of that you are carrying (as long as it’s not in a safe/invisible container). Anything else is assumed to have some use, even if it’s not something you’re interested in, and they don’t want people selling them by mistake.

Sarcasm, delivered with a
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

1. GW2 doesn’t seem to take into account numbers of players though, I usually play late when there’s far less people and the respawn rate is insane. I get the whole thing about kill stealing but it makes some are impossible to finish (bloodwitch for example). I wish they applied their “can we do this differently?” thinking here.

2. Sounds weird, but ok, it kinda makes sense. Doesn’t make it less annoying though

@Palador.2170

1. Yeah, it makes sense, but then they could at least make those areas optional, in the sense that there are no points of interest or vistas to complete there. How is a person who plays when there are few players, supposed complete those?

2. Like I said, weird mechanic, but ok, I can live with it.

3. I guess this will stay one of those things in the game I can’t wrap my head around. It’s so easy and convenient to put it as an option, and yet they go out of their way to make it impossible to remove. :S

4. Anything else is assumed to have some use, even if it’s not something you’re interested in, and they don’t want people selling them by mistake.

I know they have their uses, but again, it’s about convenience. You mark the items you plan to sell, and when in the shop, you’re done with one click. Maybe it’s just me, but I really think this would be a useful option. And if I’m gonna mistakenly sell something that I marked as junk, I still would’ve sold it manually, so it doubt they didn’t put it because of that.
