Some people really need to relax...
I really don’t get it why they are complaining about a gear having higher stats. It’s something to look forward to. Something to save gold to.
This game isn’t anything special really. Age of Conan in a new wrapper instead of guild sieges we have wv3, no defined class roles, combo combat systems and Anet and Funcom both lied.
As far as potential goes I had a lot of hopes for GW2 same as I did for AoC but looks like Ill just go back to WoW seeing as Blizzard knows how handle gear they have gear grind down to a science the only thing I see in GW2 is AN trying to learn how to balance gear gluttony and keeping people happy.
An No GW2 cant hold a candle to WOW not with this new paradigm they are just another WOW clone.
an MMO will never be a replacement for your real life.
Given the one time events, and the amount of grind required for Ascended gear and infusions (RNG only), ANET disagrees.
I don’t see how you can trust this company anymore. They delete so many threads to cover up how bad things are you will be hard pressed to find the truth. These guys are stringing everyone on hope. The sooner you give up on them the better for yourself and your wallet.

I fail to see how you can call GW2 a WoW clone when this strays further from WoW than most other MMOs……perhaps because it has 3D characters and a fantasy setting? Also, Age of Conan was a disaster that can hardly be compared to GW2
Now, for those people who are upset about ascended gear (though I do believe half of them are doomsayers who just looking for the next big thing to whine about), you have the group of players above to blame for Anet’s recent change in mechanics. All these people whining about being bored because they don’t have any “goals” finally got their wish.
You display a strong condescending nature to everyone that expresses a opinion different from your own. Aside from this, these whining people you mention didn’t change one line of code, so the “blame” does not lie with them.

You’re right, Anet implemented a feature that half the forum wanted for no reason at all! it’s just a coincidence that the entire hardcore elitist community had been demanding it for months. Thank you for opening my eyes!

i agree with your other points but not this. devs dont need players to tell them that the community is going down in size, they can see it and then come up with horrible ideas to fix it all by themselves
and for the record, i personally am very happy about ascended gear. but the way anet went about this was pretty bad, i’ll give the whiners that much

This I can agree with as well chasing. They should have given us more advance notice then 3 days before the event saying “Oh yeah, we’re adding better equipment with this update”
An MMO will never be a replacement for your real life.
Thank you for putting it bluntly (and I agree wholeheartedly with everything else you said). I think that nowadays when people get into an MMO they pretty much expect it to be the new purpose of their life, and of course, they will always be disappointed because it’s just a game. I straight up just didn’t bother with the events this weekend because the abhorrent amount of whining gave me a headache.

This whole “Anet is freaking out because the community is going down in size” ish is just a load of fantasy IMO. Sure they’re not at launch levels, but the population is pretty kitten strong 3 months in, most MMOs are talking about server merges by this time. Every server is full or high. Now some doomsayers are acting like servers are dead because we don’t have 50% of the population crammed into Queensdale anymore. But do a /who in any of WoW’s mid-level zones, there are usually only 5 or 6 people there. And that is supposedly the biggest MMO around! GW2s population is not the problem. The problem is the new team they created to make content updates and dungeons, who listened to the hardcore dungeon players

I am not surprised by your lack of decorum. However, yes, at the end of the day Anet is responsible for their actions. They are the producers and they can find good solutions… or they can find poor ones. It is their job to have a proper vision, and to execute it faithfully. There will always be critics.
Game is marketed as being for people tired of a genre filled with exploitative gear grind mechanics. Game introduces the same mechanics shortly after launch. Shame on the people who are angry about it!
Deriding an entire group of people on an internet forum who are justifiably angry over being lied to about a product they were purchasing to make yourself feel superior will never be a replacement for a worthwhile personality. Sorry if that’s harsh but it needs to be said.
And I believe that it will continue to be a success despite all the doomsayers who have been insisting for 3 months that the mass exodus is just around the corner. The servers are still highly populated, people are STILL talking about the game, and there are no decent alternatives.
The same was true when your implied large enough portion of the community to manifest a change in core principles was crying about not having stats to chase (must be separated from people wanting things to do and goals to obtain because they are not mutually exclusive whatsoever.)
It’s also been made plainly obvious that this sort of change has been in the works since before release so the argument that this is in any way the community’s doing is irrelevant.

I don’t know how you absolute morons have gotten any inclination to believe that this has “been in the works”. All the OFFICIAL Anet-released info has pointed to this being a very recent decision, let alone the fact that if this had “been in the works”, we’d have more than two rings and a back slot by now. Fractals have probably been in the works for a long time (again, can’t stress how pleased I am with Fractals as a whole. Amazing work). Ascended gear CLEARLY has not, and this has not only been TOLD to us by Anet, it is also readily evident to anyone with a god kitten brain. Stop passing around this absolute bullkitten that “this was planned from the start”, you ignorant clod-headed sorry excuses for people.

the devs made a change in game mechanics, as a business decision. in the long run it will probably help player retention. but if something as small as one tier of UPGRADABLE gear is going to make you ragequit, then you must not have been much of a fan in the first place

Do you need a towel to wipe the spittle off your monitor?
Linsey Murdock:Adding item progression is a delicate process normally undertaken in an expansion…
Yes they decided to depart from horizontal progression long ago. If you can’t see that maybe you do need that towel.

I don’t need a towel, but I might need new keys. And no, the decision to depart from horizontal progression was not made until recently; however, the decision to possibly increase the level cap has been listed as probable with expansions for some time, and as such gear would increase in stats. This does not mean there would be an increase in tier; there would simply be level 100 exotic armor that is better than level 80 exotic armor, just as level 80 exotic armor is better than level 60 exotic armor. This in itself is annoying, but not nearly the same thing as introducing a new stat TIER when there is no need for increased stats. If you cannot see that this was a recent decision by Anet telling you so themselves, I don’t know what you need, but it’s probably some sort of medication.

Thank you for proving that you have nothing relevant to add to this community discussion, only antagonistic rambling and both a keen sense of the obvious and remarkable ability to make up baseless falsehoods to further your own agenda.
You did not state how I proved your point because I didn’t do anything but disagree with you and point out your antagonistic tone. Yes it was a business decision to lie to us and that’s why we’re upset. I have not ever said that I was quitting.

The level of stats was plateaued. Level increases and so do the stats. That’s vertical progression sorry. Adding gear tiers isn’t the only way it happens.

The point that you proved is that half of you need to get a life and relax…..hence the title of the post. I don’t raid so obviously I’m not excited about vertical progression but I also recognize that it’s a very small portion of a very large game. I certainly don’t understand why people who now hate the game are going to sit around on the forum whining like little brats….talking about being “lied to” as if Anet is a human being whom you had a personal relationship with.
Stop being such drama queens. If this is a big enough deal for you to leave the game for then leave…….though I’d like to see what your better option is. This is still the best MMO on the market unless you want to go back to WoW. Which I’m guessing is why the servers are all still on high even though the community is in an “outrage”. Or maybe the real community, the people who are actually playing the game, don’t care that much.
(edited by gold.3025)
yes we should relax even though we’ve invest dollars and time into a game under a specific promise, only to find that we were lied to.

I hate dungeons. I want the best gear, but I must endure absolute misery to get the new gear. get it now?
The only thing this game has going for it is the shiny graphics. ArenaNet really needs to take advice from PlanetSide 2 developers. They frequently make videos talking about current/future plans, post on the official forums+reddit, and actually make changes based on player feed back. In fact, I was just watching a developer interview and one of them specifically said they are NOT going to focus on pumping out new stupid holiday content but instead work on squaring away as many bugs as they can to please their player base. Source: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGUhSuhiJa0&feature=youtu.be (around 16 min)

I’ve been digging that in beta. Their activeness in the community really shows. I just hope they can get the mechanized vs. infantry balance right. It sucks being infantry man. Red5 is also really awesome at developing for their community. They’ve been super active on their forums through beta and are very accessible through email as well. I remember when ANet was that active in community discussions, it was good times in Tyria.

Its funny that people are complaining so much that they are casual and have too much of a life to play towards earning a new tier. If you’ve got such a busy life then why are you here complaining so much about a game? And its not just simple complaints, some of you are taking it real personal like the whole world is ending. It’s just a game you don’t even pay a sub for.

Are you kittening kidding me? We payed $60 plus all the money spent in the cash shop. Game hasn’t even been out long enough to offset the price spent in a traditional MMO with a sub. Your argument is not sound for a large percentage of players on here, not to mention that we are complaining because we WANT this game to succeed, just are angry/afraid of direction ANET is suddenly taking.
what if we dont know if we’re one of the people that needs to relax?
its hard to remember we’re alive for the last time

You paid 60$ for a liscence to play the game…which you got. You bought items in the cash shop willingly and most likely used them………….
You’re not investing in stocks & bonds here, idk why adding a new tier means they stole your money
First things first, Guild Wars 2 is downright the best MMO to be released since World of Warcraft, with a level of potential unmatched by any other game out there. I would love to hear some of these whiners name an MMO that lives up to their ideals. (hint: they can’t, that’s why they’re here in the first place)
Now, having witnessed the launch of many games over the years, I can’t help but notice a little sub-section of the MMO community, who hop from game to game, and proceed to cry and moan about the most petty and insignificant things. They are never happy, and are a plague to almost every game released.
In your Opinion. Obviously you never played anything before WoW.

I think I’m going to extend you the courtesy you didn’t, I’m not going to devalue your opinion. You bring up some points, but I don’t see you providing much of a counterargument other then “you’re wrong”. But I’m not gonna argue your opinions, you’re entitled to them. I’ll just argue this:
First, if there’s a ton of people who “proceed to cry and moan” it’s not a little sub-section. It’s an issue. An issue that is going to loose your business sales. It’s called negative customer feedback, and if there was just a teeny bit then ANet could justify ignoring it, but this is by no means a small amount of negative feedback.
Second, this game is dying. Just spend 5 minutes on google and you can find stats of gaming communities decreasing time spent in this game by large margins. If you stop playing the game, you usually don’t buy the sequel. Then less sales leads to less features, lose more people. You get the picture.

I’m personally boycotting any future expansions that may come out, and certainly not spending another nickle on gems, so you’re assumption is correct, and least based on my account.

All I know is I’ve had the game since end of Sept and I’m still not 80. And I’ve played 5 out of 7 times a week at least 2-3 hours a sitting. Played a few toons but still..no need to rush, to get to max cap, or end game like the other MMO.
This isn’t also a traditional MMO. Many people here really need to go back to the other MMO and play it for a bit. Then reassess their views.
I hear the same level of complaints and threads over there…and I read their forums also. Their gripes are no different then yours here. The grass is always greener stuff.
Over in the other MMO forums, the complaints are the same. There is nothing to do at end game unless you are progression raiders. The dailies are boring. The grinding is absurd. The PvP is broken and unbalanced. Where is the new content for those that devoured the content and blazed through it. And they are PAYING $15 a month. You aren’t.
I think a lot of people REALLY need to step back and think about really what they are complaining about.
This is a game.
The amount of effort and energy being wasted here complaining about a game is staggering.
People need to step back and start playing this game the way it was designed to be played..which is CASUALLY.
My buddy who got to 80 super quick the first week or so was on the other night and really had an epiphany about the game…said it was really weird to not want to log in and play every night recently, but when he thought about it, he said it was actually a really good thing.
He said when he looked back at the other MMO and how much time he played it and the type of treadmill they had going, that GW2 is actually a really good thing. He can come and go when he wants and still enjoys playing when he does but he doesn’t have the urge to log in all the time…which is good now according to him. And no he’s not going back to the other MMO. In fact he said he’s enjoying coming and going.
Kinda like a game should be.
I guess you haven’t seen the media or community sections or the forums or anything like that.
To say ANET is not showing you whats ahead or giving you updates or anything of that matter is absurd. This MMO has updated players more then any MMO to date AND has put out more fixes faster then any MMO. Go look at the wiki and see how many times they have patched and patched. Unlike that other MMO that leaves things broken for months and years, ANET has done a great job with keeping up with fixes AND keeping us informed.
And sorry, player feedback is NOT always right. Any game maker that does that is going to have a short existence.

If your argument as to why we should be upset is that we’re playing the game wrong I have one thing to tell you. That is a really bad argument. I will show you the reverse of it:
You should be upset. You’re not? You’re playing the game wrong, if you were playing it like THEY MEANT IT TO BE PLAYED you’d be pissed.

That “other MMO” hasn’t even launched yet…
Although I do see you’re point on how developers can’t implement player feedback carelessly without thought. It’s just that when the MAJORITY of the forum’s users are all complaining about specific things in the game, that at the VERY LEAST deserves an intelligent response from the dev. team explaining their stance on the issue, none of which I have seen here in regards to the weekend fiasco+ascended+balancing issues.

Wow, I just don’t have the same emotional response to “games” as some of you do. If I find a game I like such as GW2, I play it.. simple as that. If the game or gaming company in turn does something I disagree with I then stop playing that game. No angry post or 4 paragraph entries about the “lies” and “trust”. I just simply say “ohh well, that sucked…” uninstall the game and move on with my life.
Ohh well, to each his own.

C’mon this game is still buggy like hell, regardless of how fast and how many fixes Anet claims to make. I already wasted time on a CoF p2 that bugged out with the new patch.
Of course I shouldn’t complain because it’s F2P and asking fixes is entitlement.

Hello OP. Before you ask me to relax, please explain this:
http://venturebeat.com/2012/05/21/guild-wars-2-interview-monetization/#s:guildwars2-16
Mike O’Brien:
I want to point out that in Guild Wars 2, being competitive isn’t all about having the best gear. It’s not like you’re going to go into world-versus-world and get smoked because someone else has a godly weapon that you can’t hope to acquire. We’ve always been against that kind of thing.
Here’s what we believe: If someone wants to play for a thousand hours to get an item that is so rare that other players can’t realistically acquire it, that rare item should be differentiated by its visual appearance and rarity alone, not by being more powerful than everything else in the game. Otherwise, your MMO becomes all about grinding to get the best gear. We don’t make grindy games — we leave the grind to other MMOs.
I’ve heard that talk for the past five years. I pre-purchased GW2 on day 1 because of that premise. It took one weekend for years of “propaganda” to become empty.
No. I won’t relax. I didn’t purchase two DDEs and spent over 500USD in appreciation of that premise to now have ArenaNet give me the middle finger.
OP, guess what, you miss the point of why people are quitting. Its two fold
1) Most people who are quitting didn’t want a game to hold a candle to WoW. That would imply they liked WoW’s game design, that of being a gear treadmill, content gating, etc
2) A lot of people are coming to the forums to voice their disgust with the changes because This isn’t the game they advertised. It goes against their game philosphy. People feel lied to.
People were told that getting max level gear would always be fairly easy, and would be possible to acquire using a variety of actions (karma, gold, dungeon running, and crafting). More dedicated players (read: players who play more) efforts would never give them a statistical gear based advantage over less dedicated players (read: players who play less).
Now that the new tier has been introduced, people are afraid that what they were told is not what is going to happen. The new tier, and its special infusion items, may very well allow more dedicated players to have a statistical gear based advantage over less dedicated players.
Some may say “so what?” If they spend more time and effort, should they not be allowed a gear based advantage? Well, the answer does not really matter here. People were told that the stat gain would not happen, and now people are afraid that it might happen in spite of what they were told.
Now, the new tier has not been fully introduced, and the stat gain on the new items does not provide a significant advantage in any area of the game. However, once the full tier is introduced, it is very likely that a player clad in it will have a very large statistical advantage over someone who is not. This begs the question: once the full tier is fully introduced, will players who play less be able to obtain it fairly easily, and in a variety of ways? If not, then players who play more will likely end up with a huge statistical gear based advantage.
As it stands, the only way to obtain the items in the new tier is to grind a dungeon. The amount of time one has to grind is, by many accounts, prohibitive to players who are less dedicated. In the current climate, less dedicated players will have trouble getting a regular group together to grind the dungeon (no dungeon queue tool contributes to this).
Now ANET has said that eventually the new tier will eventually be available in a variety of ways. They have not commented on just how difficult it will be to obtain compared to the current exotic tier. Will the ascended tier become a barrier that separates the hardcore from the casual? Or will it be like exotics were: easy to obtain the stats, hard to get the good looks.
Time will tell, but until it does, I’m not going to invest any more time in GW2. Before the new patch, playing GW2 with its “easy to acquire” max power gear made me realize that I’m tired of being at a statistical disadvantage against people who have way more time to grind than me (see SWTOR PVP). GW2 looked like it might break the mold, but now it may end up falling in line. If it’s the former, I’ll be back; otherwise, I’m out.
(And before you say that the new tier will not give anyone an advantage over me in anything other than the non-competitive aspects of the game, I will point you to WvWvW; a game type that I planned on playing for my endgame)

Lol, so we should just let people rip us off? Good call.
Hello,
As this thread is starting to be inflammatory, it is now locked. Furthermore there is already several threads about the Ascend Gears:

I’ll be honest about the gear and gearchecks
Thank you for your understanding.
