Something truly rare
You can still buy dungeon paths last time I checked.
Dont have worm and Teq unique account bound skins as well?
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.

LOL this is for another thread but I strongly believe Anet should ban selling dungeon paths practices. Selling dungeon paths has caused some much upsets and scams I do not know why Anet allows it.

Nope I am pretty sure the skins and mini are up on the TP. Very expensive but can be brought.
Everyone that earnt a legendary has the right to use it however they see fit.
The Teq weapon skins can’t be sold on tp though.
I’ve actually never seen anyone in game who has one.

You aren’t understanding what I am saying. The OP wanted skins to be so rare that you can only get them from completing hard dungeons/content and not be available with a credit card. Point is, you can still get dungeon rewards with a credit card.
Weapons of the Sunless (from Teq) and Fractal skins can’t be bought from the Trading Post. However, there are many complaints that acquiring these skins relies too heavily on RNG where you may have killed Teq 300 times and got nothing or ran 1000 Fractals and received 10 Fractal Harpoons instead of the Fractal Sword you’re wanting.
So on one hand, you have legendaries which are a lot more common than their name suggests but everyone can get one with a bit of grind. On the other hand, you have weapon skins which are reasonably rare but requires the blessing of the RNG gods.
The solution lies within a middle ground between these two extremes. Perhaps, offer some suggestions for ArenaNet?
My stance? Who cares what the other people in your party are using? I only care what MY character looks like. :P As long as my party members are knowledgable and competent (and if not, I can teach them if they’re willing to learn), I don’t care whether they’re using Legendaries, dungeon gear, or Ascended gear that’s been transmuted to look like starter gear. They’re entitled to wear whatever they want.

I am a bit of a old school MMO (started since EQ1). So I prefer items that earn thought a long and difficult quest and not something you could just buy. Things you can buy are seldom truly rare.
But back to your question. Like you say the solution is some where in between. You don’t have to make a item that need a 1000 hrs grind or totally depended on the RNG gods.
Let says (for example) a new ascended weapon that is made up of 4 parts in the Magic Forge. The first 3 parts are a/c bound non-tradeable that drop in a newly very difficult dungeon (3 times harder than the aetherblade) with 50% of dropping (50% of drop and 1/3 of the right part). The 4th part use to identify what type of weapon (eg a 2h sword or a mace) with a 10% drop but tradeable in TP (10% drop rate and 1/20 the right type of weapon).
Anet can play with the above percentage but it is the combination of a bit of grind, difficult contents, luck and even a bit of coins. It doesn’t have to be one way or the others. They just need to make it fun and a bit rare to give it value to the people who going to get it.
My server is extremely busy and I’ve only seen 1 person with the Wurm gear. It’s very difficult to get.
Not everyone will have a legendary…. I don’t have a legendary yet… neither does most of my friends.
And no matter how rare you make something, they will grow more common in time, so deal with it.
We all know that if Anet makes something too hard to get people will also complain.
Your best chance at something unusual is some of the time limited stuff.

Tequatl and Wurm skins are ascended items – they cannot be traded on the trading post.

The Weapons of the Sunless have dark stuff coming off of them, and the Wurmslayer’s armor have pulsating goo on them.
Too bad I feel that the Wurmslayer armor is just hideous, but of course that is a personal opinion.
I agree that we need more difficult dungeons like Aetherized TA in the game.
High risk, high reward content was always a fun part of GW1
I do Teq every day and I have never gotten anything more than the standard 3 or 4 rares. RNG is a cruel mistress.
