I just recently had to re-accept the updated end user license agreement, and I happened to notice that within Section 4 of it, subsection b, there’s a provision that NCSoft reserves the right to impose a subscription fee on any existing accounts. I don’t know if anyone else here read the agreement, but I find this a somewhat disturbing clause.

That clause has been in existence since GW1 launched, and they haven’t exercised it yet. I would not worry about it too much.

Ah, good. I had never seen it before for some reason, and I usually try to do a thorough read-through of the EULA.

If you care to search, there are Dev posts about that very subject, I think in Account Issues. =)

To my knowledge, it’s just something to protect ANET from legal hooplah.

iTunes has a EULA clause stating you can’t use the product for the design, development or manufacturing of nuclear, chemical or biological weapons.

That’s probably the most hilarious thing I’ve heard all day.

Yeah, its there and you agreed to it so they can implement it at any time if they wanted.

The fact that its been there since GW1 doesn’t change the danger posed by it. Just saying…

Can they do it? Not really, I don’t have a credit card registered so impossible to charge me a sub fee. Others with a card registered though? The company is based in the USA, there are some very weird lawsuit settlements that have cost hundreds of millions for mental anguish. Not a change it would be brought in unannounced.

That sounds like a challenge. I’ll get my rodent minions on it at once.

It wouldn’t be a forced subscrption, it would only allow them to change the game to subcription based. So you’ll either pay the subscription or you cant play.
They are not going to forcefully take your money.

Yes, either way they lose more than they could gain.

With action-oriented combat, deep personal storylines, epic dynamic events, world-class PvP, and no subscription fees, Guild Wars 2 defines the future of online roleplaying games.”
