My asura warrior grudgingly jumped through all the hoops to get Grawnk the food he demanded, but as for recovering the ornament things, ah, well… he’s only level 65. Not exactly ready for Orr.

So, Happy Wintersday, New Players!

Besides which, not being a new player myself, I’ve already done all those jumping puzzles. I’m not particularly interested in doing them again. With any of my characters. This tired, worn out, recycled old content in Wintersday wrapping has brought out the Scrooge in me. Anybody else out there feeling the bah, humbug?

While putting the kitten thing in Orr was stupid (everything else is available on the starting zones) you can make the run (I myself almost skip this since I didn’t had Orr).

Just go to Hope Falls (the chest right on the poi, not the JP) in Malchor’s Leap. And for the rest, avoid the mobs and bring condition remover and speed boosts if you don’t have speed runes.

You say you’re not a new player, don’t you have a level 80 to finish it up on? You can switch you know. I’ve switched between 4 chars doing this. As for the JPs, a bit of a pain but there are people porting if you can’t do them.

I could be wrong but to me it seems that new players just have to feed the grawl for 3 days, then the collection unlocks. The collection will still be able to be completed once wintersday is over, so new players can take thier time with finishing it and reap its rewards.

Yes, I have twelve level 80s. Silly as it may seem, however, I started this with my asura warrior, and if I ever should ever finish it, it will be with him. Also, I’ve done every non-holiday jumping puzzle in the game without mesmery assistance, with two exceptions: the one in Southsun with the geysers and the aetherblade thing. I did Spekk’s lab long, long ago with my necro. As I recall, it took somewhere in the vicinity of three hours because of the timed platforms. Let me go slow, take my time, and I’ll manage. Rush me, and it’s most likely not going to happen.

I could pay for a port, sure, but I’ve only got 14 gold, due to finally getting tailoring up to 500 (along a little mystic toilet mayhem). Whee.

Looking through my old screenshots folder… there we go. I did Spekk’s on 10/10/2012. After many falls into the lava, I stripped my necro down to her undies to save on armor repair. I’ve done some of the other jumping puzzles more than once, and some even multiple times, but this one? Heh, nope.

Look at that marvelous loot!

Lol. Yah. I’m absolutely dreadful at JPs and don’t have the patience to spend hours on them if they are too hard. Raises my blood pressure to much. Good luck with them. I gather it’s no rush now that you’ve gotten to this stage. You probably have as long as you need now that’s the collection is unlocked.

I did the 6 required jps today within less than 30 minutes. I think on 4 of them there were mesmer portals available.
I think SPekks lab got a redo from its initial design.
IF you fall into the lava and die, you will be ported to the entrance of the jp and dont have to wp.
At the entrance is also a little lab assistant who will port you to any of the six stations that you passed before dying.

Great news! You don’t need to do JPs to get the ornaments. Even relatively easy chests award them. For instance, the little chest in Wayfarer’s at Wurmhowl Spikes. Or those round chests in Orr.

I’m not sure why players believe only JP chests award the Ornaments.

Good luck.

The ornament thing is a collection achievement. Within the Basic Collections tab, rather than the Wintersday tab.

You just need to unlock it before Wintersday ends, by all appearances.

Which is weird.

I was going by wiki where it said that the chests needed to be Magnificent, Splendid or Grand.

Acquisition: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mysterious_Grubby_Package
Magnificent, Splendid and Grand Chests found in explorable zones at the end of Jumping Puzzles and Mini-dungeons.

If they can be found in any chest that would save people a lot of trouble.

Yep, that’s what the Wiki says, but if you read the Talk page, you will find that many of those chests can be found in places other than JPs and Mini-dungeons.

And…I haven’t done any JPs or Mini-dungeons, and I have Ornaments.

The Wiki is only as accurate as whoever last edited the page (and only then if the edit is accurate..lol).

I enjoyed it. It reminds me of the Mad King tome backpack way back when I was struggling with underlevelled characters and it was a challenge! This wasn’t so much of a challenge with multiple level 80s to choose from, but still good fun.

The only imprrovement I’d make is the ability to turn the ornaments into exotics so they were usable on a full build but I’m all good with what I got.

This arguments about recycled content are infantile and invalid.
It is like saying Christmas sux because every year you eat the same foods, sing the same carols, spend more money than you should buying presents, and so on.

Like Christmas, Wintersday is a holyday, a time to enjoy and do things you have not done in a year. The presents (rewards) are new, but the festivities are the traditional festivities for the season.

So cheer up and join in the fun, find a snowball pile and just knock some one on their bottom and laugh about it, forget all that is going on with mordry, its only going to be here for a little bit.

You’ll absolutely die along the way, but I’ll revive you and armor repairs are free! I bet you’ll get a whole lot of experience and new places to come back to as well. Same goes for the jumping puzzles in lower level zones if you’re having a problem completing them.

If you’re going to put a lot of arbitrary restrictions on what you do, and how you do it, then yes, you will find it’s a lot harder to do some things. I’m on a US server, but thanks for the offer! I’m also 54, a couple of months away from 55. Still fairly reflexive, but far from the days when I’d reflexively kick my legs whenever Mario jumped.

I gave Spekk’s a shot last night before I logged off. Only fell in the lava three times before reaching the first platform. Yay! Then I made it to the third one (I think) before falling again. Ah, well.

Thanks to all the nice mesmers who help people in situations like this. But they aren’t everywhere, or present at all times. So don’t play the “nice memser” card like it’s an actual reliable solution, because it’s not. It’s relying on possible charity from others. And while it’s very kind and generous of them to offer. They aren’t always where /when you need them to be. So this is not an actual solution.(in spite of what some people seem to think)

I also have a mesmer parked at the end of Skipping stones (golden human chest) if anyone ever wants a port there.

Well, heck, I did it. With my (now) level 68 asura warrior.

No kindly mesmerly assistance was needed. Spekk’s was much easier this time, due to the golem guys that helpfully sent him back to the last platform thingee he’d reached, although at one point he would have been stuck on a ledge if someone else hadn’t come along and activated the platforms. He got defeated once in Straits of Devastation, after almost reaching the zone portal to Malachor’s Leap. A group of risen that were part of an event near there waylaid him. There was no dodging that risen ball of rotten fury. Fortunately, a kind soul nearby came through with a rez. Got through Malachor’s Leap with no mishaps, other than being knocked off the bridge right by the zone portal. Grr. Then he got defeated three times in Cursed Shore, twice right beside the waypoint at the Cathedral of Verdance, but being the stubborn little cuss that he is, he kept at it. Almost got caught by risen again just at the stone ‘ramp’ leading up to the JP, but several other people came along at just the right moment, and it was clear sailing from there.

So, anyway. Whee.

I think the Orr chest is easiest of all, barring maybe the Wurmhowl Spikes one. No JP, or anything, just open one of the little round chests on the ground. Waypoint in (or walk), walk a short distance, and open chest. =)

It’s a GAME. It’s ALL optional. That is not a legitimate argument concerning any single subject or argument where games and game design are involved.

Anyway, pretty sure murdering the grawl unlocks the collection, then you can complete it whenever you want. Plus, if you already have an 80, you can get the different ornaments on different characters, as all collection achievements are account bound.

On the contrary. It’s the absolute most legitimate argument there can be. There are many different games, and any game of a reasonable level of complexity has many different aspects. No game designer can make something that appeals 100% of the gaming population, and no game designer can make every single part of their game appeal to every single person who players it. By making parts of the game optional, they allow people to pick and choose the things they like, while ignoring the things they don’t like.
