My guild just finished a tier 1 bounty which we failed because of Sottz. Not because we couldn’t find him — we had members find him three separate times while the bounty was active — but because he disappeared before the team could get to him.

Here’s what happened: Start bounty tier 1 with 3 parties active, Teesa and Sottz are the targets. All members who had not already gotten personal rewards earlier in the week moved to Frostgorge and started hunting Teesa. Everyone who already had gotten rewards, or who didn’t have Frostgorge on their maps went to Gendarran to search for Sottz (about 4 members). Within 2 minutes Teesah was found, and she was engaged at the three minute mark. At about 4 minutes in Sottz was found, a wp was pinged and the team that was in Gendarran started to move in to hold location until Teesa was dead and we could all join the Sottz battle. Very soon thereafter they called that he had disappeared and they were searching again. The main force continued the fight against Teesa. Sottz was again located, just a little ways from his first location, and the team again started moving in on him — before they could all get to the location he disappeared again. Teesa went down. A member called and said I’ve got Sottz, can I just activate it? Instead of saying yes, I said, “We’re done, ping the WP!” They pinged, but before we could get there he had disappeared yet again. We hunted, but never found him again while the bounty was active.

I understand that A-Net wanted to stop the pre-hunts. As a guild leader I’m actually very glad of that. The pre-hunts were both difficult to coordinate and time consuming. But, if there is a bounty active and going the target shouldn’t be able to respawn during that time. Any other time, yes, I’m for it.

Please rethink this “fix.” It’s over zealous.

Don’t free Sotzz before you’re ready to engage him. He despawns pretty quickly.

We just failed our T3 because we couldn’t find Sottz. Even after we easily took down all the other (non-prescouted) targets and had the whole guild running around looking for him, probably around 50 people, we couldn’t do it. Blindly running around an entire map hoping that somebody lucks out and finds a completely random spawn so that you don’t waste the time of dozens of people, plus the build time of the t3 bounty, is pretty ridiculous. I know you guys at Anet like RNG, but you’re really pushing it. Nothing about this remotely fun. Nothing about this is remotely skill-based. Even if you do find him, nobody enjoys it. It’s just a really awful piece of content that people do to get some stupid carrot on a stick ascended gear.

If this is your answer to raids from other MMOs, then you have done a very, very poor job. At least guild rushes are pretty fun.

You have to activate him and then kite him until everyone shows up. It’s best to have a group of people ready to fight him the second he is found.

That would be great, I’d like that. But the real problem is that we did have a group ready to fight him as soon as he was found and yet by the time they arrived he was already gone. Yes, next time we will engage him as soon as he’s found, but this isn’t a good mechanic. I definitely understand A-Net wanting to discourage the pre-hunts, but we do have to get a group to him once we find him after the bounty is active.

Starting immediately would also eat into the time limit you have for killing him…

He was one of our Target on our Bounty Hunt 3. Found him today at the water near Applenook Hamlet Waypoint. Pulled him out of the Barrel and a message popped up in my chat “(drinking)” and then sotzz said congratulations. I tried to talk to him like 5- 10 sec. later but he despawned directly. We were unable to find him again.

There still seem to be issues with this bounty target. If you find him on your hunt, activate him immediately, do not hesitate.

My sympathies on your Bounty attempts, I’m sure it’s very frustrating. We’ve not had Sottz since the update, but our plan is this, based on what we’ve heard from others – and maybe this will help other guilds too…..

Anyone who finds Sottz is told to immediately activate him. Since we have most of our Guild on Vent chat, they can tell us the nearest waypoint and someone else can ping it in guild/map chat for the rest while the first kites with Sottz.

Even if the person who activates Sottz dies, once Sottz is activated, my understanding is that he stays activated. Your ‘dead’ guildie can then ping waypoints and provide directions if the rest of the calvary hasn’t yet arrived.

I know it eats into your time, but we’re talking less than a minute, really, ad that’s pretty much as long as you have if you DON’T activate him, but this way you won’t lose him again.

If someone else has tried this strategy and it doesn’t work, please let me know?
