Here are the similarities -

1. To spawn the Karka Queen in Southsun Cove, players need to secure and defend the 4 different outposts.

To spawn Scarlet, players need to defeat 3 waves of invasion.

2. When the Karka Queen is slain, players will receive 2 guaranteed rares and a chest.
When Scarlet is defeated, players will receive 2 guaranteed rares and a choice between 50 watchwork pieces or 5 pieces of loot (which is green or better)

3. The Karka Queen meta event was implemented as a permanent feature and tied to the Living Story arc, and slaying the Karka Queen was one of the achievements.
The current Clockwork Chaos meta event is going to be implemeneted as a permanent feature and tied to the Living Story arc, and defeating the waves of invasion is also one of the achievements.

Actually, the Clockwork Chaos works more like a requirement because you need to complete those achievements in order to play Scarlet’s Funhouse, defeat her, in order to be able to once again, gain access to the Crown Pavillion.

4. End result? Southsun Cove is now as desolated as before the story arc took place, and no one bothers to do the dynamic events, even though they are less tedious than the current invasion meta.

End result for this invasion event implementation? Judging from player’s response to Southsun Cove, and given the stark similarities on the Karka Queen and Scarlet events, my take is that this invasion is likely to be left out in the cold once players get their achievements done.

3 reasons why I think this won’t end up like Southsun:

1. People were on Southsun mainly because of the 200% magic find boost, Karka Queen loot was just a bonus. After MF boost went away there wasn’t much incentive to be on the island. For this invasion the main incentive is champion bags, something that will stay permanent.

2. Karka Queen requires multiple people to actually secure and hold all 4 outposts. Because Karka Queen is generally never on cooldown, it’s harder for people to know when others who are willing to hold the outposts will even be on Southsun. With invasions there is a set time that it is available that everyone knows.

3. Unlike Southsun, the invasion events actually scale to the number of players so it’s ok if a huge zerg doesn’t flock there (though this somewhat takes away from the reward).

Tyr Sylvison – Warrior
Illyiah – Revenant

I like the invasions.

I dislike Southsun.

I speak for my self and no one else. Only fools believe they speak for a majority.
