Southsun cove: a bad level 80 area
The new Fractal dungeons are far more rewarding and fun compared to the open worlds. Especially on high difficulty levels.
Wasn’t it said on one of the blog posts they were looking at putting new DEs in Southsun? I really hope so, and hope they can get like a waypoint AT LEAST at Cadach’s Folly . . .
I mean I haven’t found a way to use Owain’s waypoint to reach that volcanic plains
Even the fractal dungeon isn’t that rewarding unless you go in with very high MF, and then you risk being kicked out for not bringing proper DPS gear. Since the fractals do start to get tougher and not being properly geared for them, lowers the chances of finishing the instance.
That being said, the loot varies greatly from general crap, to occasionally getting rare items. Exotic drops are still very rare though – I will say ORR farming is still better for farming than Fractals, at least you don’t have to wait an hour plus per group.

They could put in 20 new DEs, isn’t going to make any different since the mobs are way too hard, the entire zone seems to favor small/regular group play and how often does that happen? The entire zone needs a remake, all the mobs need nerfing to at least the level of mobs in ORR.

I think it says something when people are asking it to be brought down to Orr level.
Been there once, seemed desolate and boring. Got the WP’s and PoI’s and left.
It’s barely even a zone as it stands right now. No vistas, no skillpoints, minimal amount of events. Seems like it was really set up for us to do the clearing out the zone during the weekend rather than playing later.
It would probably do better as a 75-80 zone with heart quests than another Orr deadzone.

You missed the jumping puzzles? There are the only decent thing in the zone? lol

I found South Shore pretty but very unfinished, maybe it is just a case of not having enough content yet but the zone is tiny and there is nothing there.
It feels more lifeless than Orr to me.
eh I Like Orr, I like the vibe and the map chat- hopefully people will return there soon.
I even have favorite risen enemies
My main gripe with this map is the awful map paths. For example, I ‘dropped’ down to sea/ground level to get to an ori ore, but to get back up to civilisation, I had to walk around edges of the map until I could find a walk-able slope. (Or maybe I just haven’t explored all the paths properly…)
I haven’t been back since the event for the same reasons OP. The rewards just don’t justify the effort required in that place.
GW2 is ultra Ebenezer Scroogey (buy gems, buy gems) with drops but that place has the droprate of Veterans/Champions which is almost nil.

2 jumping puzzles, 1 laughably easy and the other frustrating to no end, all 3 chests gave me “what did i just waste my time for?!”-rewards. Skipping stones can also be rather frustrating for those who aren’t good at fast jumping, the other one can be exploited with jump skills.
Aside from that…yeah…that map blows. I went from rounding up 4-5 enemies to waiting on projectile reflect shield to come off cd before attacking a young karka. 75 more karka to go for monthly and then I’m out of there for good…
well in my opinion, a fun lvl 80 maps doesn’t exist yet. I usually play in lower lvl area’s or dungeons just because they are far more exciting.
is there anyone not tired of undead things yet?

One good tip. Young karka is really easy. Double dodge when you see them do that range attack (its kinda like a cat stretching pose).

Don’t waste a dodge, just move left right left right etc. and the projectiles miss you. You can’t be up close for this to work. I learned this trick on the Orr guys who attack with the pink ball projectiles.

It’s because there is Flavour of the Month elsewhere.

I know about that, but I still find the shield better since their own attack brings them down to 25-50% hp(depending on crits) and my dmg feels rather low on them so the extra dps they do is welcome. But either way, engaging more than one is still just too much trouble to be worth the result…
I only go there for the ori tbh.
not much else to do there maybe the jp as well.
I did see an npc there, that takes this crafting mat they can drop for a good ring.
( i think its like the one you got from the event)
but the amount you need to get for the ring.it would take you months of farming.

sigh, it has been already stated (and was so obvious I doubted any further clarification was needed) that the real content in Southsun Cove will be added in the (near) future.
I personally haven’t had any problems with this zone in terms of difficulty. If I’m playing smart, I can handle any enemy except the big Veterans and the Champions solo. If I pull too many of something, I can find myself in trouble, but I personally don’t think that’s a bad thing – for me, I LIKE having to think while I play as opposed to just wading through everything.
As for access, there is a path from the water level area around Owain’s back up to the Volcanic Plains… There’s a sloped area in between the island east of Owain’s and the mainland that you can get up.
I like the feel a lot better than Orr. It does have a bit too many places that you can’t climb up. Forced long walks do not make for a heroic feeling.
It really feels incomplete with the lack of events and things to do. Just go ninja the rich ori vein and pop back into the mists.
The shores would be PACKED if these kitten young karkas had a 50% drop rate on Powerful Blood.
Well OP, they said this wouldent be a full map like other maps and is only the start with more to be built upon later.
Also bear in mind the respawns are not as good for farming here as everyone was complaining about the respawns in the 80 zones we already have..
The events tho, i agree they could be balanced better.
Tis only what you can do for all
It’s funny how this place already became a desolate waste of 1-2 players running around for ori or chests.
1, The DE’s aren’t good. They are either too hard(for how many players actually PLAY there) or too boring.
2. Farming, for just about anything, is way too hard, time consuming and not rewarding. Literally every enemy needs a plan of action unlike in orr, sure this might make it more rewarding if it actually were, well, rewarding – you might get drops on 2/10 enemies. And there aren’t all that many resourses to begin with, just a few good ori nodes and couple passion fruit bushes.
Now it’s not all BAD, the biggest reason I dislike how un-rewarding it is, is because it looks freaking amazing. I would love to farm there just because of the graphics and change of atmosphere from cold and empty frostgorge or depressive orr, but due all the problems listed above, this is just not going to happen.
A lost oppoturnity, I was starting to like the place when the event was going on..
I think Southson cove needs less Vets that will destroy you 1v1. More waypoints, and better drops.
Now Orr is also a terible, terible place. The only difference between Orr and the Cove are Undead, and Crabs, But in Orr although the drops can be just as bad as the Cove, but not as bad. You will get more trash off the risen then you would with the crabs.
Most of the time the Youg Karka do not drop anything at all, and in Orr atleast you have a chance of jumping in on a Group that is already Farming the zone. Which make Orr less annoying.
So in the cove you barely see another player running around, and if there are players they are congrigating at the jump puzzle. While the few events are going off, no one is willing to help.
In Orr there is always a group doing the events, and you get more trash off the Risen then the crabs, so something is better then nothing.

I’m tired of undead and any mob that can spam CC.
I haven’t been back since the event. Any DE that has a vet and adds is going to be difficult (tedious when possible) to solo. Even on the day of the event the place thinned out pretty fast. If you want people to play with it’s the fractals. But, you better have the right key to the gate.
75 more karka to go for monthly and then I’m out of there for good…
Another tip – look for the vets that lay eggs. Aggro, wait for them to lay and hatch, then AOE the headcrabs. They count as karka kills. I killed my 200 karka in less than 30 min and using Guardian staff.

Well for one thing, if youre not enjoying the jumping puzzles then.
But otherwise iirc one of the recent blog posts mentioned something about developing the zone more and adding new DEs.
Anet – please fix this area. Just spent 15+ min killing stuff and reward was 1 karka shell, 3 powerful blood, 3 blues, and a bunch of junk. Probably 1/2 the thinks killed (mainly young karka) dropped nothing at all.
I am seeking an incentive to play this area and am not finding it. Drops are far inferior to Orr.
On the server I am on I frequently see more bots than real people in southsun, it is pretty sad.
I actually like the area pretty well, and sometimes even enjoy farming there. It could use a few more DE’s but other than that it’s a pleasant break from Orr and the rest fo the game. I do think some of the adult karkas are a bit too much, but they can be handled and solo’d if done properly, although with the drop rates so painfully low there idk why you would waste 15 minutes to kill one and not get a single drop. That’s prob my only beef with it is the bad drop rates. I go there with nearly full MF gear and only get 5 shells max per day after spending nearly 6 hours there constantly farming. Gets frustrating….
~Surrender fiend and you will get an easy death
~I could promise you the same…but it would be a lie…
Haven’t been there since event and won’t go before i can get some good loot. Put there some extra hard bosses which drops good looking items or something.
Seafarer’s Rest EotM grinch
They released a new area within months of release so they couldn’t have spent much time on it. You may argue they shouldn’t have made it in the first place if they couldn’t put ample time into it, which one would counter in a game whose income is based on cash shop purchases which rise considerably during special events, it probably worked out for them.
I remember reading they were going to expand on it in the future so I see it more of a place holder for future content.
Asara gates leading from other high level zones to Southsun Cove may help the population problem.
Creating new event a event triggers will help too.
