Luckily, it’s not needed for the 10 sample reward, and on its own, the sample isn’t even worth any achievement points. Given that, I don’t see why it would be an issue. I wouldn’t even bring OCD as an argument either because there’s plenty of permanent achievements out there that one may never acquire due to limitations of tolerance or capabilities. I think it’s convenient that we have some freedom in choosing which achievements to chase for the item rewards.

you can get both backpacks without doing the jp….
AND you miss 0 achievement points because collecting the samples doesnt give any points…

There’s also oodles of other achievements you can do in order to get the 25 needed for the backpack. You don’t need to get this last sample at all.

Sheesh dude, take a chill pill.
I didn’t ask for anything to be handed over, all I said was placing a sample (whether it’s required or not) at the end of a jumping puzzle was not a well thought out idea.

I completed the puzzle, which was made more difficult with loads of people all trying it at the same time. Try timing a jump, onto floating stones with ~ 5-10 people doing exactly the same thing.

As others have already said, it clearly was well thought out, as you only need 10 of the 11 available samples.

There’s also no achievement points associated with this one challenge and it’s completely possible to get the Karka backpiece without slogging through the jumping puzzle.

In short, it was well thought out.

On a side note, the last time I did this puzzle was on a character much larger than I usually jump with after two months between the last time I did skipping stones, and I did it the first try. It really isn’t hard. At all.

If that’s still not enough for you, Mesmers flock to the end to make money porting people up to it and it isn’t even necessary for the achievement. Although I guess even the illusion of minor challenge can scare some people.

Oh my …

I was clearing out the reef drakes around that island while searching for the Islet sample when I realised it was on top of the island. I didn’t even know it was at the end of that JP. cos I never tried to do Skipping Stones.

A couple of other players showed up, then a mesmer portal appeared at my feet, so I used it. I was so focused on getting the sample, I still didn’t realise this was the end of the JP.

It wasn’t until after I got the sample, and looked around a bit I realised where I was. I jumped across the little bits of wood to the chest and got the JP achievement as well.

I did the puzzle a few weeks ago when I was on a journey to complete all the jumping puzzles(had only a few at the start and didn’t care much about them).

I didn’t think it was that hard. Of course you have to be fast… but I think there are more annoying jumping puzzles in the game. Especially the WvW ones where you have enemies and can die(meaning you need to walk all the long way back… also the puzzles itself are a bit longer at least the big one they moved to a seperate map now).

I think it’s pretty ok to have a sample at the end. Ofc it may be a bit crowded in that place but this sample isn’t even needed to get the achievement. Everyone who loves jumpingpuzzles had plenty of time to do it alone before the event was up. So I think it’s pretty ok to give people a “hint” that there is a jumping-puzzle as well in that area by placing ome if the samples there. I also think when most people have done it less people will do it. We are talking about the first evening this event was up.

All the people shouting “You don’t need it, you only need 10 for the achievement”, obviously failed to realise that ALL 11 are needed for the Meta achievement “Southsun Stalwart”.

I have no objection to working hard for something, and never expect something for nothing, hence the reason I completed the puzzle without the use of a Mesmer.

I was only complaining, because not every one has the patience of a Saint required to do the puzzle with so many others trying it at the same time.

This JP was awful. I didn’t have it before yesterday.

I tried to launch a run to finish it in the overflow I was in, without success, or guys were at the end of the JP asking for ridiculous amounts of gold to open portals (5-10g).

Not 10 minutes later I was lucky and got a slot in my server’s southsun cove. I took all my party with me. And the guys were just starting a JP run. It took 5 mesmers and 30 minutes to get it done. In the end there was nearly a permanent portal both at the end of the JP and at the sample, freely done, and everybody got both his achi and the sample.

I guess that I’m lucky to be on my server, people are nicer than in other places.

Frór (yes, with the accent!)
