Ok this is just a way of pretending to be doing something.
New healing, utility and elite skills aren’t going to be much use, even if there will be some good ones they will have long recharge times. Almost no one is going to pick a specialization based on them. Even if there will be some elite skills which will buff the whole party greatly, it will have a recharge time of at least 3 min.
The new weapons however don’t seem very special either:

Engineer gets a hammer, like what for? They mostly use kits which replace weapon skills, so what do they need a new weapon for? Which is a melee type at that?

Mesmer gets a shield – seriously? They can dual-wield swords already, thus some new specialization that is, if you look at it from a realistic point of view.

Necromancers get a greatsword. Ah yes being the dead last of the food chain in PVE they get the grand prize. I mean even if it won’t change their situation, they can at least join the “cool kids club” who wield eternity. And again from a realistic point of view it’s not very special. They already wield melee weapons like daggers.

Finally we get the staff wielding ranger a.k.a. “druid”. Ok they don’t have any magic oriented weapons so that sounds interesting, but who exactly is going to use a staff over a longbow? I mean a ranger with a longbow can reach 1500 range using the right trait. So that will give them lower range i.e. 1200. And don’t even think there will be a trait to increase the range of the staff as not even the scholar classes have such a trait.

So unless there will be some big changes to the special profession mechanics, we may as well skip the “specialization” part and just get the new skills and weapons without playing around with new names.

Although right now there will be just 1 specialization, there will be more in the future.
And which will be used will be based on one thing – which weapon is the best as it is the primary source of damage. So at most players will cycle between 2 of them, as there will be a best melee weapon and best ranged weapon.

Seriously the plot is already lazy written, so the mechanics have to be lazy too now?

Hahaha all of you mock me, well no matter when I said that Scarlet’s story is a recycle of Svanir’s story from EOTN, and that she intends to awaken Mordremoth:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/lwd/I-think-I-know-what-Scarlet-is-after/first#post3647116
I got the same, yet I had the last laugh.
You guys seriously expect to get some big changes? Hahaha all you will get is **** in a candy wrapping. Just as the plot is a recycle, same will be with the game mechanics.
Only I can see these things using observation and analyzation of the past 2 years.
What I am saying is these specializations are nothing but old news pretending to be something new. New weapons and skills were promised a long time ago, so this is nothing new. All this is, is a present in a cheeseburger wrapping – I don’t need to look inside to know someone is just not trying.

Lol..

How can you possible know that every single thing that’s going to get put in is going to be un-usable garbage? We know nothing.

“New healing, utility and elite skills aren’t going to be much use”

Ok.

“Almost no one is going to pick a specialization based on them”

Ok.

“Engineer gets a hammer, like what for?”

For reasons like nice, stylish themed mechanics in the game.

“Mesmer gets a shield – seriously? They can dual-wield swords already”

They can do lots of things, none of which at all makes a Shield wearing Mesmer less fun.

“but who exactly is going to use a staff over a longbow?”

When they balance the Staff and it can do something cool & unique, then…. possibly everyone, or no-one. You can’t know based off the fact Longbow has 1500 range.

“so the mechanics have to be lazy too now?”

Being a HoT Naysayer like you are, it’s a hard gig right now. Because we don’t know anything about the mechanics yet and you’re already thinking you know anything about how they will be lazy and useless.

Patience, critique the mechanics after there are mechanics to critique.

I sincerely hope this is a troll post, because if it’s not, the reasoning behind it eludes me. People are asking for more ways to play different professions. Anet is offering more ways to play a profession. People have been asking for more skills. More elite skills. More utility skills. This is something people asked for.

Anet is providing it, and it’s just the start. They’ll continue to provide more specializations moving forward.

Now, the min/max crowd is going to find the most effective way to do anything. If that comes from the new system, that’s what they’ll gravitate to. If it comes from the old system, that’s what they’ll do.

But there are a whole lot of players, I think it’s probably most players, who don’t min max and they just enjoy playing the game. Those people will enjoy playing something new, even if it doesn’t meet with your approval OP or the approval of speed runners or min-maxers, who I’m pretty sure make up a fairly small percentage of the playerbase.

There are plenty of people still running around PvE using vitality and toughness or healing specs, and enjoying the hell out of the game.

Wow, for as many misgivings as I might have for the game this post is just…wow.

We know nothing of the skills that will come from this update, nor the utilities. It might very well change how we play the game on the whole and develop a brand new meta for all we know. Frankly I’d love to see a warrior specialization be “Monk”. A true WaMo of old with some crazy ridiculous support and healing in lieu of damage and have the weapon set be dual daggers. As fort he Engie hammer, I’m honestly most excited about that prospect. And those small drones too. i want them. I want to name them.

Got to be a troll post.

Even being jaded over the whole game (I’ve been there, several times), there’s so many negative assumptions in the OP that don’t even make sense based on the… complete lack of info we’ve had regarding specific mechanics.

Wait until more is revealed before senselessly hating on absolutely nothing.

Props to OP for getting out there and spreading the hate on all of the features of HoT before knowing anything about it! It’s not easy taking the time to imagine what features will be like without information and then building up a strong hatred for them and then sharing those feelings with us here on the forums!

Odds are the new skills are going to be very related to the new super class as in a full new type of skills. The stander class will not be able to use them at all and most likely the new super class will lose skills that the stander class can use. That kind of the point of the new class system NOT to progress in power but to add more chose.

I think the Ele class is going to lose all of its glyph for a new set what ever the new super ele class will be. Think on though lines for the other classes what other skills types are there that a class has a healing version at least 3 Utility and 1 Elite.

Specialization is simply another progression and customisation system for opening more game-play options for people.

I fail to see how, on the whole, that is a bad thing.

Here’s what we know about specializations:

  • They are going to exist.
  • One may or may not be a druid.

Thats the complete list of things we know about them.

They mentioned they change the profession skills all together. For engi’s we may see a removal of kits or turrets to get something else, like those floaty orby things. Mesmers may lose shatters to gain a new mechanic.

TLDR: The hype train just left station and you’re already complaining about the destination?!

I can understand why considering the company’s past “updates” and “features” added to the game. The vast majority of what they have hyped is beyond dull. The original game was over hyped to the extent that the vast majority of the Guild Wars 1 players left after 3 months. That was before they started the butchery they called their new “lore”.

People getting excited over one elite, utility and a new weapon when past experience with new skills show they are horrible and not worth the time invested to use skill points to unlock them. Do none of you remember the healing skill introduced with the Tower of Nightmares? I suppose not. Very few things added into the game actually brought about something good. I will say some traits they added (that they did not design themselves mind you…) worked very well for game mechanics.

The Guild Wars 2 community is prone to hype for no reason. I am under the impression at this point that the community would hype standard bug fixes and general quality of life updates. When those are things that should be standard policy on products such as a “triple A” mmo.

As to the new class, I am curious to see what they do. The new mastery system? It will most likely be another failed attempt at something new like Guild Wars 2 in general (the event system anyone? No more auto attacks, lol yeah…). I wouldn’t hold my breath. Rather, I will wait it out and see what it is first before hyping it, because odds are it will not even be worthy of mention in the long run with the company currently working on it.

I bought the hype 2 years ago and learned from a $80 mistake. Sadly, I still hold out hope they will see their flaws and go back to what made Guild Wars 1 great, but I do believe, at this point, that ship sailed before they even launched the game.

The core marketing strategy of any mmo is hypeing.

What I’m saying is there is no viable reason to get upset at specializations. Considering we know literally next to nothing about them.

We do know, that it’s not a permanent thing. If you hate the idea of druids, fine don’t be one stay a ranger. Fine with me. There will be times that a druid will be awesome and times when it won’t. It may appeal to some it may not others. It’s something different and new which is really needed.

That is some what true. A lot of people quit the game because of how it was hyped and sold and was nothing like what they claimed. I think that was a bigger factor with the ascended items just being the final straw to go on their backs.
