Spending ALL of your gold...
If I felt it to be worth it to me, you betcha. Gold grows back just for running around doing stuff.
If I didn’t, nope. There’re already an awful lot of things I could buy but never, ever will (with gold, karma and otherwise) that just don’t seem even halfway worth the bother to me.
/shrug
Yes thats how I bought my legendaries
There isn’t anything in this game worth 3700 gold.
Yep, I would. Did it twice in fact. First time was when the wardrobe came out. I spent all I had (about 1900 gold) to get as many skins as I could. The second time was when I got up to 700 gold after that. I spent it all buying a permanent bank access (and it’s been worth every copper). Now I’m back up there again, about 1700 gold in bank and about 800 gold worth of gems bought.
No, not the exact amount. That would make things very inconvenient.
No, 3700 gold would be better spent on skins I actually want (some of the racial skins/chaos weapons I missed out on before requiring 50 ticket scraps). Not to mention getting my crafting to 500 and/or converting to loads of transmog stone. That or some of the permanent things (bank/hair stylist).
I’ve yet to see a legendary I liked the look of… maybe the juggernaut but entropy looks better in my opinion and is about half of a percent of the price. So, yeah, 3,700 gold could buy the stylist with 2,100 left over.
Depends. right now, would i spend 3,800 for eternity? No way. that skin is definitely not worth the gold to me. Would I spend all my gold on Kudzu, or another skin that I “really” enjoyed? Yes, I would, because in that circumstance, those skins would be worth it to me.
I’d rather buy, Dusk and Dawn and make them myself and then sell eternity.
The first precursor I get to drop I’m making and selling on the TP regardless of what it is.
I had 1.5g after buying Dawn. Although I hate being brings, it really wasn’t a big deal and I’d definitely do it again. Making gold is really easy, especially when you don’t really spend any of it.

Mind sharing your wisdom then smart guy? Highest I ever had was like 275 because I sold 2 black lion ticket skins at the start of the chinese new year.
Its way easier to make money when you have money, so…no.
All that gold = seed money.
Totally agree with BlackBeard, I would never spend all of my money for one item. I would always leave myself with a reasonable amount of money (e.g. 100g) for convenience and to earn myself more gold in the future.
So you mean like that time I spent all my coin to craft a legendary, having bought the precursor, and then going to sell on TP, I realized I couldn’t list it because I had no gold….
Pointless.
Either I make it, or I earn it.
Buying from others? Never.
Okay..two things..
Why are people buying/crafting eternity? The skin looks awesome but so not worth it. You’re freaking lose a legendary by crafting it. You just had two legendaries and get one out of this two, who might have cost/took you ages to buy/craft. So it’s not worth it, that’s at least in my humble opinion.
Also the price of Eternity is well..3,7k (droping of prizes) – each legendary cost 3k ( – therefore eternity should cost sth. around 6k. You are losing a legendary. Can’t understand why people never raged about that.
I would always save some money, you never know what comes and therefore having some extra cash in your pocket, can..well..save the day. For example a new skin or – I don’t know – cool things.
On the other hand, I would buy a new legendary now or wait just before the patch. Until then prices will greatly decrease. So it’s up to you.
Well at the end of the day. It’s up to you. Gold can be farmed again, therefore spending it isn’t that big of a loss. But also keep in mind, that there will be new legendaries. So you might be upset later on, for not waiting. But still the decision is up to you.
It’s virtual money….so yes
Not right now, because I have no personal interest in the games most expensive items, and they are going to go down in price in a few months with the release of the precursor hunt, which means I would lose money.
However, months ago, when inflation of all such uppercrust items was guaranteed, you bet I would have bought it, if only to make a profit off it.
EDIT: Oh my gosh XD the ‘casual’ player with 4000 G. You need to take a better measure of what a casual amount of time consumption is. If you, sir, are a casual player, most people I game with don’t even qualify as players!

This. I have a little over 4k gold now (casual player since 2012), sold one precursor, I only spend gold on cash shop skins I like (I like maybe 1 out of 10, lol). Waiting for some decent armor skins, I don’t care much about huge weapons because of clipping…
OK it really freaks me out when I see you’ve replied to a topic I’ve never seen before.
I always think I’m going crazy.
It doesn’t help that your answer was similar to the one I was going to type out . T_T

Run a few dungeons a day and don’t spend it. Turn Laurels into gold if you don’t need them. Take advantage of any seasonal events going on where you can farm stuff/turn a quick profit.
It’s really not that hard. If you don’t go hardcore on your money making it can take a while to add up, but making 10-15g per day is a breeze, and if you don’t spend it it will start appreciating.

Just figured I should let you know,
If you value legendaries at skin value and not stat changing you don’t lose a legendary, you get a free one.
The way the forge works is fairly cool in that
(Account bound legendary + Account bound legendary = non-account bound legendary) Sell the new legendary and you basically got a free legendary skin.

only thing i really want is the molten jetpack…but then again there is a sort of struggle inside of me if the skin really does justify the price… :\
yep. Did that with the Bee Queen accessory.
Because I’m a little bit shallow and like particle effects.
Not a chance.
I wouldn’t.
with 3700g you can invest it and get hundreds of gold quick
with 0g, you can’t invest it, so it’s harder to get more gold
I would recommend only ever spending half of your gold
this doesn’t really apply to other tokens and stuff, because you can’t trade in them and get more

well not just because it was the most expensive item, but if it was something i wanted then yeah probably. i cant be stuffed most of the time with investing gold and its really not too difficult to get back up to a workable sum reasonably quick
I wouldn’t trust my money to anyone saying yes in this poll.
. . . no.
I would give it to the next mesmer who could port me through Obsidian Sanctum to the chest
:)

for 3700g, I’d make a new mesmer, level it, get there, and port you.
naw! jk! mesmer is my favorite and I already have one ready to get there

Generally i wouldn’t do that. There was this one time when i spent every last copper i had so if there is something i really want, i would do it, just not on stupid legendaries.
I’d usually save around 500-1000g just for ‘rainy days’ when I want stuff.
i gave all my gold to change hair colour on two alts twice(for me rich in gw2 is 500g since i dont care for ascented or legentary).I never save money on any mmo.I dont like just to have money on a character and not use them.So every time i get more than 100g i convert them to gems and buy something cheap from store for the fun.
No, I would rather have a dozen items I like than one single item I really like. Variety gives me more flexibility in building the looks of my characters, one overpriced item would cause me to build looks around it to justify the cost.
Since it’s virtual money that i use entirely for a game i want to just enjoy in every possible way, i’ve got myself to 0 gold and up quite a few times. I’ve never been rich (around 230 was the most gold i’ve accumulated so far – I could’ve reached 300 gold a week ago but decided to convert to gems) I usually spent gold on cultural armor pieces, gem store skins, only recently some crafting materials, and some more armor.
I’m against flamboyant consumerism so no. :P I always like to have a cushion of money for when unexpected expenses or emergencies arise.
No emergencies in the game of course, (This isn’t EVE) but still random things like new runes or another few weapons for a new build come up unexpectedly. :O
Also, keep in mind, that legendary will probably drop in price and/or become obsolete come the expansion.
Seriously, I’d save my money for the next shiny coming in a few months.
I did exactly that for my Kamohoali’i Kotaki, emptied out my bank, part of my GF’s, and pretty much made us broke in the process. But is ok, you get money back really really fast.
Nope.
I have a need to have a lot of gold.

i voted for no
1) Ive been in such a situation before and i haven’t bought anything that would leave me broke.
2) Id rather buy several expensive stuffs than 1 big super expensive stuff.
3) If i bought several different expensive things and still went broke, i have my methods of getting that money back (with lots of time and a little bit of effort)
I’ve zeroed my account so many times simply because gold is too easy to come by.
i bought eternity in December for 4800g that was all my gold.
Have also made 4 other legendaries myself.
Have made The Minstrel a few weeks ago and currently have around 950g so getting gold in this game is easy enough so i have to problem with spending it, afterall thats what its for.
I would. I need only 100-200 golds to start making money if i need, what i can farm in few weeks (i play only wvw but i have high magic find and i can run some dungeons, world bosses)
Just the WvW

I would spend it if it was something I really wanted. I mean, that’s the point of gold in the first place right? To buy what you want? You only really NEED less than 1 gold for just traveling around to way points and doing just about anything in this game will cover those costs. You made the money in the first place so you can do it again.
If you have all your characters with ascended infused, then yes. If not, then don’t buy it. 5-10% extra stats is not a lot but is infinite times better than 0 stats and 1 skin.
The ability to change stats is almost useless becuase you can’t change the sigils. So everytime you change build and try to use the same weapon you will either be running with wrong sigils or just lose the old ones. So when you decide to change again you will lose the sigils once more.

I think you are missing the point of this survey. Eternity from the OP was just an example of something someone might want to spend all of their gold on.
The question is, is there anything you would spend all of your gold on?

Yep, this is a solid method. I’m at about 850g right now (up from 80g after I had purchased Dusk to craft Twilight) from this basic strategy. Run dungeons (usually to help guildies with dungeon master), collect the money, don’t spend any of it, convert laurels into T6 mats, sell T6 mats. Craft Ascended mats, sell the ascended mats. Sell all ectos I get from salvaging Rares (I do world boss rotation every few days or so).
Right now (during this seasonal event) you essentially get a free 1.5-2g every day from the Divine Envelopes. If you haven’t been spending the 16g to get the Divine Envelopes every day to immediately turn around to sell for 20g on TP (you end up with ~17.5g after fees) then you are missing out on some easy money every day.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I wouldn’t buy Eternity because I don’t like it and none of my characters use greatswords.
But I regularly spend almost all my money on things I do want. I’ve never found something that cost exactly the amount I had, but I’ve gotten down to less than 1g left on many occasions.
And once, when I was buying mats for ascended armor I had about 20s left, went to Dry Top and then got killed fighting one of the champions so I actually did end up with no money at all.
I don’t see the point in keeping some gold in reserve. What’s the use of currency you won’t spend? This isn’t like real life where you might have an unexpected bill come through, or the boiler breaks down and needs to be repaired. There are very few things that cost gold and are essential to keep playing, pretty much just salvage kits, waypoints if you consider them essential and TP fees to get more gold. Everything else can wait until you’ve saved up again.
The only people I can see who might want a reserve stash of gold are TP flippers who might unexpectedly find something selling for below the normal price, meaning they’ll want to buy it ASAP before the price goes back up.

I’m not a TP flipper. I keep gold in reserve because I’m the type of person always going “what if?”. What if an awesome new skin goes on the gem store in two weeks? What if I get tired of the runes I have now and want to get a different set? What if I decide to take on some new crafting venture? Thus, I couldn’t ever make myself spend ALL of my gold on one thing.
I’d play the market instead.
Zarin Mistcloak(THF) Valkyrie Mistblade(WAR) Kossori Mistwalker(REV) Durendal Mistward(GRD)
I used to think (build op, pls nerf) like you, but then I took a nerf to the knee.
You mean like…
I made Twilight to combine with my Sunrise to sell Eternity to fund the Dreamer, which I sold and made and sold again, to buy the Moot (to keep) and finish off the Exotic Hunter achievement, finish off my ascended armor collection achievement… No, I do not like the most expensive weapon in the game so I would not spend thousands of gold on it. I do, however, like having goals and clever ways to go about fulfilling them
