Spike in Gold Bots that were once Players
Mega server, you are seeing more players now then you did in the past, so it stands to reason you would see more of those things as well.
I have noticed that the once I report have had ‘real’ names more often than usual. It is sad.
It’s a pretty difficult situation to fix. Player registers on gold seller website with the same email and password as his GW2 account, now the gold seller has your GW2 account.
You can make them change passwords, but if they haven’t gone to the gold seller site yet, they’ll just use the new password there, too. If they already went there, the gold seller already reset the password so the real account owner is locked out.
It’s times like this I remember the quote “you can’t fix stupid.”
Yup. All of these bots are players who had their accounts hacked. We’re seeing more of them because of the megaservers.
Report on sight.
I’ve noticed the gold sellers only use compromised accounts in bursts, never as part of their regularly scheduled spam, so there’s always a perceived “spike” of compromised accounts during public holidays or major weekend sales.
That being said, using email as login credentials is a really bad idea, I’m surprised Anet is still using it.
