So I’m going through the EB JP and a mes pops out, chain stuns me with “spikeroot fruit” and I can’t move. Just down on the floor, getting hit over and over with the spikeroot fruit for about 20 seconds while she kills me. Is this some total BS or what?

They just need to remove the ability to use consumables in wvwvw already. They kill one and a new one pops up. First was Golem in a box now it’s gears and fruit. =)

@OP: If you happen to be in tier 1 (SoS/JQ/SoR) then I’m probably the mes LOL, seeing as I’ve used a stack and a half of spiky fruit today. All I can really say to you is use stun breakers?

I’ll never understand the point of these threads, it’s an even playing ground for everyone, spiky fruit and the other consumables are available for use by everyone. I think it keeps things interesting, and most people I’ve killed with consumables actually find it funny and PM me.

@Kumu Honua: Actually I’ve been using Spiky Fruit for months… But you are correct, it’s just now gears are starting to see mainstream usage. Though they’re actually very expensive; surprised I’m seeing lots of gear usage and not so much spiky fruit when gears cost 3x as much.

Nope, not on those servers. You’ve obviously never been hit by one. It resets all your abilities/utilities. You couldn’t break out of it if you had such an ability. It boils down to whoever can throw a fruit first, cause after that it’s auto-win. Enjoy it while you can.

I don’t understand why something like this would even be added to the game. Even in pve, there is nothing but abuse to be seen for an item that can stunlock enemies and do fairly high damage with no cooldown. Items that are “for fun” should have only visual effects, not real combat value.

In part these things are in the game because one dev did not talk to another.

In part they in because in PVE the stronger mobs have Defiant. This turn the fruit and similar items into nothing more than a consumable, one shot, interrupt, especially in larger events. This because Defiant reduce or hard counter incoming CC, and scales with the number of toons involved in the fight.

In essence the professions are balanced around quick, decisive SPVP fights, and to make PVE fights seem more massive ANet have given the mobs large health pools and special abilities to compensate. But WVW exist in a odd intersect between SPVP and PVE in that it is PVP using PVE rules and gear.

End result is that stuff that are at best a nuisance for big mobs become a experience breaking WMD in WVW, because the profession do not have the innate resistances that said mobs have.

Badges for legendary. I’ve only ever gotten 3 to drop from kills in the past 5 months, so JPs.

Honestly, I think the real problem with the EB JP is the dark room + barrel trap (aka arena room). The dark room breaks your stealth if you have a torch, and then empties into a room that’s incredibly easy to turn into a death trap. ANet needs to fix the torches breaking stealth to even it up a bit. I have idea why they decided that stealth is effective except at the most vulnerable point of the JP.

@Monsoon/Auesis: Idk about you, but I personally run 3 stun breakers in the puzzle. 3 Stun breakers+2-3 evade gives you enough time to run away, obstruct, stealth, heal, do whatever you need to do. Not to mention they can be reflected.

Right, you go away and do whatever you need to do to make sure you aren’t murdered by a slew of spiky fruits, including reflecting all that you can (and any person with a brain will just stop throwing them when they get reflected). What then? They are all on cooldown, and the endless spiky fruit bonanza continues.

There is absolutely NO way you can justify the existence of that consumable in WvW. None. It is physically impossible. Don’t even try and pretend that they are fair.

Any likely effective counter will see the person throwing them pull some kind of vanishing act and wait for a easier prey.

Btw, the fruit is in essence free if one feel like taking the time to harvest them.

Also, only warrior and guardian have easy (2 non-elite utilities) access to stability, and 2 more have 1 utility each that grant it (ranger have a signet that grants it to their pet, but not themselves, unless there is a trait i am overlooking). And most of them (guardian and warrior included) are sub 10 second duration with above 30 second cooldowns.

That is quite expensive counters to what is in essence a weed.

This is one of the inane things I’ve ever heard on these forums. They didn’t design five unique races, eight customizable professions, and give them a massive persistent PvP battlefield just to watch the game dissolve to Consumable Wars 2. If something is broken, any intelligent person fixes it, it doesn’t matter if it’s broken for everyone or for only a single person.

Everybody can have nukes, and what does that do? Either everybody dies or everybody lives in stagnant fear. Whatever purpose fighting may serve is never realized. This is essentially what you are proposing. Either players will just enter WvW and use broken consumables, or the more likely result, players just won’t enter WvW at all.

I probably won’t mind consumables in wvw, but at least make them all on a 30sec timer so you won’t spam them to win. That makes its usage a more tactical move as to when to throw spikefruit/golem/gear etc.

Multiple stunbreaks (for those that run around with multiples) coupled with dodging might let you get away, if the person isn’t intersted in chasing you. If you’re able to outrun them, you could safely escape. If they can outrun you by having more abilties for swiftness or teleport skills, then even using every stun break you have is not going to save you. And this is just for fleeing them.

You should be able to kill them, but they already have a massive advantage of being able to stunlock you. Your ability to break/avoid the stuns is going to be done in the first 5 seconds. At that point, your options are 1)flee (if even possible) and 2) die.

Playing the game of justifying it because someone might have 3 stunbreaks or might have reflect skill doesn’t work. Especially when even with those they are still at a disadvantage.

In theory, but as soon as you get one Spiky fruit on you, you’re dead, because they can continuously spam them on you.

I was jumped and spammed with fruit, couldn’t stand up. Even had I successfully dodged two, when that all ran out I’d get hit with another fruit and then chained stunned to death.

They just need to remove the ability to use consumables in wvwvw already. They kill one and a new one pops up. First was Golem in a box now it’s gears and fruit. =)

This. Remove food buffs as well.

Fact: every Thief tells you to “l2p” when the subject is to nerf stealth.

Ya these are an exploitation and ppl who are using them should be reported as such. Its not much if one person is using it but if you have a “zurg” you will have well over 1/2 of your team unable to do any thing in a fight there no true counter for it or skill in using it.

Main : Jski Imaginary ELE (Necromancer)
Guild : OBEY (The Legacy) I call it Obay , TLC (WvW) , UNIV (other)
Server : FA

To reiterate, reply, and bump this thread. For all the people saying use stun breakers to avoid this.

1. Not all professions have access to the multiple stun breakers.

2. You can’t spam stun breakers like they can spam spiky fruit. Not a viable option.

Sorry.

The only person saying this is the exploiter himself.

I just want to say, I’ve used a few spiky fruit, they’re fun but do not belong in wvw at all. They’re great when you’re by yourself gathering or doing an event, because wvw is where I go to do dailies and level up sometimes, and someone tries to kill you, it’s nice to kitten them off instead of getting screwed. However, you’d really think after golems in a box that they’d have gone over stuff, but nope.
